Can we put together an updated injury list, now that the pre-season games are done with...

  • Ibbo - ?? Back for Rd 1
  • Des - calf. Still a few weeks away...
  • Brock - shoulder. Round 1 (fingers crossed).
  • Ballantyne - wrist. Still a question mark??
  • Foster - back. ??? "
  • Kiwi - knee. ??? "
  • Bucovaz - hip. ??? "
  • DeBoer - "hot-spot" "
  • Pearce - "Hot-spot" "
  • Mayne - ankle. Rd 2/3/4???
  • Suban - shoulder. ???
  • McPharlin - what's going on with him???
  • Browne - what's his story - did he play yesterday??

I hope Elvis, Suban and Ibbo are all right to go Rd 1, with Chopper not far behind, and Des, Balla and Kiwi not too far after that.

I'd like to see the young fellas in DeBoer and Pearce be right to go by the start of the WAFL season (next weekend), or very soon after that...

This injury list sucks TBH. :thumbsd:

I saw Kiwi at the races about 3/4 weeks ago.

I think his knee injury might be a little more serious than we think, he was hobbling, with a big brace on, who knows?

Our clubs injury updates are pretty lax.

According to Mark Duffield this morning, Ibbo, Mayne and Duff might be playing WAFL this weekend; while McPharlin has an achilles issue, but should be fit for Rd 1. Browne has a "minor" leg injury (minor for him, or for normal people - it's all relative with Browne), while Drum left the ground on Sat cos he was ill, but should be fine for Rd 1. Des and Ballantyne will be no-shows till at least Rd 2...

Des and Ballantyne will need a few weeks of WAFL to get match fitness so that rules them out until about round 5.

Murphy is an interesting one, he could do with a game of WAFL this week to find form but with 4 or 5 games already under his belt he'll probably be rested.

I saw K1W1 Sat at Lathlain. He looked fine, no braces or anything. Mayne on the other hand had a Moon Boot and was hobbling around although as someone else pointed out you more or less have to hobble with a moonboot which is kind of the point I suppose.

WAFL game an option for underdone Dockers trio

MARK DUFFIELD

Fremantle face a delicate balancing act with three players ahead of their round-one clash with the Western Bulldogs at Subiaco Oval in 13 days.

The Dockers are expected to meet today to decide whether to ask for AFL permission to play Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Duffield and Chris Mayne in the WAFL next weekend.

Ibbotson has played only twice this pre-season — and his last game was two weeks ago against North Melbourne in Canberra, where he received a badly bruised shin.

Mayne hasn’t played this year as he recovered from an ankle problem and will almost certainly play WAFL if fit. Duffield, who was part of a winning midfield against Carlton in Bunbury on Saturday, played most of the game and had 25 possessions, but it was his first match of the pre-season after being sidelined with a broken hand.

Of other players absent on Saturday, Luke McPharlin (Achilles tendon) has missed the last two matches but had extensive game time in two others and is expected to be fit to face the Bulldogs.

Rhys Palmer was rested on Saturday but played in all three of Fremantle’s previous pre-season games as did Andrew Browne, who missed the game with a minor leg injury.

Marcus Drum left the field during Saturday’s match, but was said to be ill and is expected to be fit for selection.

Des Headland (Achilles tendon) and Hayden Ballantyne (wrist) are not expected to be available for AFL selection until at least round two.

Dockers coach Mark Harvey appeared satisfied with his team’s pre-season after the 43-point win against Carlton.

The Dockers finished their fourgame build-up to the home-and-away season with a 2-2 record, in a clear indication their fitness had improved on last season when late fade-outs cost them as many as six wins.

Harvey indicated that making a greater mark in home games would be a priority in 2009 and earmarked Saturday’s game as a chance to impress on an opponent how tough the trip west could be.

“A lot of the Melbourne clubs are really zoning in on their travelling, getting that right and winning games on the road,” he said.

“I made it pretty much known, even though this was a practice game, that I saw this as us playing at our home ground.

“From the town’s point of view — Bunbury’s point of view — to see a capacity crowd, it’s getting back to grassroots football.”

More than 10,000 people flocked to Bunbury’s Hands Oval to watch the game.

Harvey also believed his team was now less predictable in attack than in previous seasons when Matthew Pavlich was the focus.

Pavlich played midfield for much of Saturday’s match and the Dockers emerged with eight multiple goal kickers in their tally of 20.

“Sides are getting so well drilled at enhancing their ball movement through zones,” Harvey said. “Today was a high-scoring game and our accuracy was terrific. It has been for the past two weeks.”

The Dockers are expected to meet today to decide whether to ask for AFL permission to play Garrick Ibbotson, Paul Duffield and Chris Mayne in the WAFL next weekend.

What teams have to ask permission from the AFL so that there players can play in the WAFL? I wonder if Mayne has a good game will they play him round 1 despite match fitness issues.

It's becuase it's in their contracts that they (the players) should be given the week off before round 1 and not play footy. Thus is the club want them to play they have to ask for permission. I have never heard of the request being declined bar one B. Cousins but that was for entirely different reasons.

Oh ok that makes sense thanks for clarification I hope they play Mayne and Duffield I think Ibbotson should be right to go he looks like he is in great shape. Duffield plays for Souths right but who Ibbo and Mayne play for?
