Just thought id put this here instead of starting a new thread. Sounds like the op was a sucess for granty. So now he will start his recovery.
Good luck chris we look forward to seeing you play next year.

All fixed

Seventy-five minutes later and my right knee was back to normal –albeit a bit stiff and sore.

The doctors have told me the operation was a complete success and now the long road to recovery and rehabilitation begins.

After two days in hospital I was happy to be back at home but it certainly was strange lying down on the couch listening to the boys play on the radio.

The doctors told me I had to do nothing for a five days after the operation, which meant not being able to go to Telstra Dome on Sunday.

It’s going to be hard enough going to the games and watching but sitting at home listening on the radio, when the team is playing just down the road was very frustrating.

I guess that’s something I’ll be getting used to. I’ve watched a reply of the game against Richmond on TV and it’s fair to say that we didn’t play that well.

In hindsight, the scoreboard may have flattered us a bit at half time – our skill level was a little ordinary and we were beaten in the midfield in the second half.

A lot has been said about the lack of height in defence but I thought the back line held up really well.

If you’d told me before the game that Richo, Stafford and Hall were going to kick four goals between them, then I would have thought we’d win the game.

Steven Kretiuk did a great job and Scott Bassett provided solid support. Brian Harris, who was playing just his second game, was solid.

These players, along with Crofty when he gets back will be the backbone of our defence.

I am very confident that these guys, along with Rohan Smith and Matthew Robbins rebounding out of defence will be do the job for us.

I’ll probably be down at the club towards the end of the week to begin my rehab program.

As I said, my knee is a bit stiff and sore and over the next few weeks I’ll be gradually getting the joints and the muscles around my knee working again.

I will be working closely with our physios, Simon MacCauley and Sue Cautley, as well as our fitness coordinator, Doug Brown.

They have told me not to expect too much in the first couple of weeks.

I will be restricted to some “light bike” which is some gentle exercise bike work. Sue and Simon will be providing the daily physio treatment and then probably I’ll step into the swimming pool.

Before I had the operation I briefly spoke to the match committee about what sort of role I’m going to have this year and when I get back into the club I think I’ll know a bit more about what I’ll be doing.

It’s fair to say that it will involve working with the younger players which is something I’ll be looking forward to but it sure doesn’t beat actually playing the game.

Chris

I'm still hopefully the Grant will be able to play for us this year. Libber made the second quickest recovery from a knee-reconstruction in '98, so there is no reason why Grant and/or Francou can come back and play this season.

Over in the States, NBA, NHL, MLB, NFL, etc, they try to rush their players back within five-six months.

Grant in 30, and if he comes back in a years time, he will only have two or three seasons left. I reckon Chris should try to come back this season, especially if we can make the finals.

Yeah maybe, but i think if there is no chance of us making the finals(which we will anyway:D ) then he shouldnt come back. But if everything is going fine and he can train properly, then yeah why not, but i wouldnt rush him.

Im sure being 5'7" helps a lot in that respect. Someone of Granties height and weight will take longer.

The last thing we want is for him to do a Kouta and come back too early and miss the start of next year. Are AFL injuries bit different from the US league ones in terms of the stress on the knee? Is the US more advanced in terms of knee ops?

Wouldn't they be the same?
If the US was more advanced, why doesn't Grant get an operation over there?
