Im not too unhappy if Darling misses 3-4 weeks to get the ankle right. Please dont bring him back too early 90% fit and he struggles to make an impact and reinjures it. Give him the time he needs, do a mini preseason and come back fit fresh and firing 8 weeks before finals.

In the mean time we get a look at M Allen, Brander and even Oscar. Even Vardy could get a run as a forward and Lycett gets a bit of a rest in 4-6 weeks time.

Keep playing these kids and bring the energy. Get Darling back before finals fit as a bull.

This. These injuries give us a chance to rest and rehab players in the lead up to finals while also giving the 2nd tier players who deserve it, a chance to show what they’ve got. Far different to previous season where we’ve had very few knocking on the door and any injury would be detrimental to the team structure

Have the MC shown any indication of rushing anyone back this year? So why worry about it?

Play him when he is ready to go.

We have done it before.

Played Le cras last year with a bad hip.

Vardy this preseason.

Cripps last year with his ankle.

Seen it many times.
Last year needed last round to make finals. This year have a feeling finals will be locked up by round 16

On one hand, we are reasonably well placed to cover Darling in the medium term. I really hope it's only 3-4 weeks and not 12. We have another gun key forward who's just hitting his stride and another player in Waterman who is playing the old Darling role.

But I'm also hearing some notes of complacency here, like "no worries, we'll have a look at Brander, Allen etc". If these guys have earned their spots then by all means pick them but experimentation for its own sake is a bad idea. We still need to win games and we need to keep picking the side that gives us the best chance of doing that and that might mean not replacing Darling with another tall immediately. Why can't we go with JK, Waterman, Ah Chee as a medium, Cripps, LeCras, Rioli and Ryan? Why do we need to shoehorn another rookie into that mix?

I realise that I was singing a totally different tune a few weeks backs when insisting that we should have a look at Brander ASAP. I still want to see him this year. And I'd still like to get a look at Allen. But if we're looking only as far as Sydney, these guys may not be part of our best available side for that game. Let's go with JK and Jakey and then mediums and smalls. I reckon that will give us the best chance against Sydney in Sydney.

Indeed.

We are actually missing quite a lot of a goal kicking power now with both Ryan and Darling missing.

Be nice if we got at least one of them back very soon.
