Yeah but it all revolves around Kennedy. If you can find the stats for i50 targets Kennedy and Darling are 1 and 2 buy a huge margin (as you would expect). Waterman is still young and developing and does not have that presence yet.
That's not the same as having one avenue to goal. We've got enough guys who can kick goals.

And I don't think it's going to be a shootout against Sydney. I'll take the extra running power over a rookie third tall.

Yes it is. If Kennedy is always being double/triple teamed we need other tall targets to keep the defenders honest.

Much of Darling growth this year is because defence is focusing all their attention on Kennedy.

So use Big Scotty Lycett.

Surely the key to winning against Sydney in Sydney is not the inclusion of a first-gamer?

This game will be won at the clearances.

Yeah but now we are changing our ruck structure to fix our forward structure. Just robbing Peter to pay Paul.

We have these young players for a reason. I don't expect them to be worldbeaters right away. I expect them to just play a role.

If a position opens up yet we don't have enough faith in them to have them step up and play what message does that send?

You talk about "structure" like it's not flexible.

Adapt it. Use different players.

I'd rather go with a smaller setup, using Ah Chee and/or Lycett as forward targets at different stages than pretend Brander is going to immediately cut the mustard as a like-for-like replacement for Darling. Which of those is more reckless in an important game?

I should mention that I have a bit of a hard-on for Big Scotty Lycett so maybe that is colouring my view.

Of course it's flexible but flexible within reason.

We are one of the few teams that play two rucks. Changing that to one ruck is actually a big deal.

We play 3 tall forwards. 1 stay at home, 2 further up the ground. That way our switches of play have a good target on each side of the ground. Changing that isn't a minor thing.

It means Big Scotty Lycett plays forward a bit more. We have the flexibility to do this.

Don't tell me that we have to pick another tall forward otherwise everything falls apart. That's alarmist.

Also, please refer to Big Scotty Lycett by his full honorific.

No I am saying why change the well working structures if you don't have to?

We have replacements. Have faith that they can fill the roles we picked them for.

I don't expect Brander to be a Kennedy or a Darling. But he may be able to be a Waterman for a few weeks.

We didn't play that at the start of the year though.

We played Ryan and Venables and didn't have Kennedy. We were quicker and noticeably so than the last few weeks.

Don't get me wrong, we are better with Kennedy than without but Ryan coming back allows us to experiment again with that more mobile multi optioned forward line

I don’t think this works for us as we are a bomb it long type of team. That’s what we are used to.

We aren’t going to change overnight hence we need another tall.

Lycett is tall but he isn’t exactly agile enough although he is for his size. He isn’t going to be able to chase down any HBs.

Plus just because u have a tall, doesn’t make them an effective forward.

I think they’ll maybe give Waterman a rest and bring in Brander and Ryan and see how it goes.

Brander will play Waterman’s role (in that recent article Brander mentions that’s what he thinks he will do in the side, not Darling’s role).

Does anyone believe that the club won’t know the injury status until Thursday?

Thought I read a report saying they’d know this morning (although they probably knew yesterday)

I think the issue is the club has holidays now so staff like Vozzo et al are on leave and not about to do the “injury update”

The bye week is causing more delays than the public holiday

They should just get whoever is running social media to write a short article.

I read something that seemed to allude to them already knowing, just not making it public till the 'media team' are back at work.

I reckon that’s a pretty poor excuse. No other club in the league would take 5 days to inform their fans on an injury to the form player in the comp.

Brander may need to put on 10kgs but he is quick, great hands and leads really well in the forward line and up the ground . All afl quality traits

Pickering on SEN giving it a zero and I'm inclined to agree, no way they don't know the results and as stated above, a quick report for the supporters and media could easily be put out.
As for the "it's due to the holidays" that's a crock of you know what.
Typical piss poor effort from WC I guess when it comes to Injury reporting.

I saw on twitter last night that the Eagles said "all clubs take a break during the bye".

Someone responded by posting an update from the Bulldogs (who also have the bye) about the severity of Tory Dickson's injury.

They just look so silly when it's that easy for someone to call them out on their bullshit.

Agreed.
How quick was the extent of Levers injury reported.

They’ve obviously signed an agreement with SJOG hospital to not formally announce any injuries to the public outside of the SJOG injury report thingo that is usually done on Tuesdays

They probably get a chunk of cash as a result.

We can’t brag about how strong the club is financially and at the same time complain about them when this is probably a consequence of the club’s ability to make money.
