More knee surgery for Saints' Hamill
The Age

St Kilda forward Aaron Hamill will undergo more surgery in a bid to find the source of his long battle with a troublesome knee injury.

Hamill has not played since round seven because of an injured right knee he damaged against Geelong and will undergo an arthroscopy on Wednesday, which will further delay his comeback.

The Saints said the 28-year-old former skipper had not suffered any fresh damage to the joint, but after consulting with his surgeon, Hamill had been told he needed to undergo an arthroscopy on Wednesday.

The Saints said he would miss at least the next two games, but he could be sidelined for up to a month.

Hamill admitted he was unsure when he would be fit again to play, as his injury was a day-to-day proposition.

"It's hard to say when the knee will be fine, but I'll sit down with the right people and we'll go through a few things," he said.

But Hamill is determined to be a part of the Saints' finals campaign in 2006, having had two past post-seasons cruelled by injury.

Of the five finals the club has contested in his time at Moorabbin, Hamill has played only one.

Another knee injury prevented him playing in any of the three finals in 2004, while a calf problem ruled him out of last year's preliminary final loss to Sydney.

"I've missed two finals in a row and I certainly don't plan to make it three provided we get there," Hamill said.

St Kilda had originally expected the injury-cursed Hamill to return this weekend via a game with the club's VFL affiliate, the Casey Scorpions.

The Saints said midfielder Raphael Clarke, who is yet to play a game this season, had suffered a fresh quad injury and was being assessed.
