The things that Currie has in his favour are firstly his size. Even as still a pretty young bloke, he's got some decent bulk about him. No Andrew Erikson here.

And secondly, he doesn't seem afraid of physical contact. Again, no Andrew Erikson here.

I am pretty confident we have a ruckman of the future and I don't think he's years away. But realistically I think it's expecting too much for him to come in this season and have any kind of impact.
I would like to think that maybe he can feature next year, especially if this is to be Spida's last year. Do you think that is fairly possible?

I wouldn't say it's impossible, purely based on his physique. But bear in mind that this is effectively his first season with the Swans. We need to wait and see how quickly he develops.

Very impressed with young Currie this afternoon. Didn't do a whole lot around the ground but was sensational in the ruck contests.

If we go well this year, no-one will be able to say that it is because we have been lucky with injuries. We have the longest injury list on the AFL web site with 10 and that list does not include the likes of Schmidt or Crouch whom are yet to come back.

This may sound strange, but this injury list could well benefit us.For the past
2 years we have been basically playing the same team week in week out.
It has forced the powers that be to take stock of what talent we have in
the reserves. As we have to rebuild the team now! not later, this situation
has unearthed some great talent, who are ready to step up,as we have all
winessed in the opening rounds.

Plus Hall who is out injured. I guess it just shows that we've built up quite a bit of squad depth now. If we can get our best team on the park, we may go places.

Squad depth has a fair bit to do with Geelongs success I feel.

This injury list is of advantage to us long term. We've found out that Jack, Bird, Moore, Barlow, Smith can play. Laidlaw, Veszpremi, O'Keefe, Brabazon,White have yet to be seen this season. Murphy could be anything. Grundy shows something. There's the basis of a future side there. In the meantime there's 8 senior players to come back with no certainty they will regain their spots.
