We've now lost Tunbridge and Rioli to long term injuries this preseason

Duggan and seemingly Giles are also struggling with less serious injuries but both have had an interrupted preseason

There's been the odd hiccup for some others but nothing that should impact their fitness come round one

Hopefully Rioli is the end of our troubles but as competitive work ramps up including JLT games that is wishful thinking
Don't rush rioli. That's what we did last year and it didn't work. If simmo still intends on playing a crumber, he should look at Jetta. Jetta is probably a better cumber than all our current small and should split his time between the forward line and the wings. His speed and flare is enough to unsettle the oppositions defence over someone like hill.

Simpson confirmed Sam Mitchell (ankle), Liam Duggan (hamstring) and Scott Lycett (knee) would all return to full training this week.

Ruckman Jon Giles is out of actions for a few weeks with a thumb injury, with Nathan Vardy and Fraser McInnes set to share ruck duties against GWS next weekend as veteran recruit Drew Petrie is rested.

It might actually be best if he comes back for the start of 2018.
I think our best chance of doing anything in the finals (assuming we make them) is to have a firing Nic Nat leading our ruck, so I'd rather have him in there at the end of the year. That's on the proviso that he's back to full fitness and we are looking like playing finals.

NN return date will fluctuate so much I rekon. Recently he was stated as a mid round return and now he might not return at all. He will have minor setback along the way or his condition might improve. I watched the program and what I got from it was that NN knows that it's a long road a head and that he might not be able to return this season. It's just typical media to sensationalize it.

Where'd you hear this big fella?

Suspected something wasn't right with Giles when I heard him say he was getting X-rays last Tuesday

Our 3 recognised ruckmen from 2016 are all out injured so we're relying on a player we thought was washed up at 33 and hasn't tucked for years, a talented but injury prone forward ruck with less than 50 games experience and a failed forward who is only on the list still because he had a contract for 2017

Would not have been opposed to just going the tank and playing the kids this year, Mitchell teaching them the ropes. No NN means no flag imo.
And manufacture a flag for east Perth while we're at it yeah?

**** that thinking, we're not Fremantle

Freo just had a pretty god damn amazing trade period all thanks to their calculated tank last year, after Fyfe went down.
And they will finish comfortably inside the 8 this yr to prove me right. We should absolutely do the same, without NN.

We almost won the flag when Mackenzie went down and we all lost our heads.

If you want us to tank you can go join that lot down the road.

Just followed some links from that original post re: NN

Sorry was on phone so wasn't bothered to link it

You are pathetic.

What is the deal with Lycett? And more importantly, our plan for the ruck going forward for 2017 sans Naitanui?

We can't possibly be expecting Petrie to play even as a 2nd ruckman right? I think I have had more taps than him in the last three years.

He hasn't been playing ruck so that explains the lack of taps.

I Giles, if fit, would be preference for first ruck until Lycett comes back. Uncertain who of Vardy or Petrie would be preferred to back him up.

We have such a complacent midfield given NN dominance. This is a good opportunity to actually start working harder at the contest.

Rioli is a loss but it won't affect our chances too much.
Couldn't agree more with this. Our reliance on Nic has been unhealthy. He either wins the tap down our players throat or wins the clearance himself. His injury may have been exactly why we were so amenable to picking up Mitch, who hasn't had the silver service our mids were used to.

Sorry to intrude but it is really sad to read Nic Nat saying he may not play in 2017 as their is no denying he is a star of the comp. He is the type of player the AFL needs as he is a crowd puller.
