Barrass injury shows that we have very little KPD depth. After Schofield we only have Edwards who probably isn’t ready yet.

One of O.Allen or Brander will probably have to start playing as a KPD

Something has gone wrong during this preseason. We've come out with poor form and serious repretetive strain injuries to Barrass and Rioli. Forget finals - get Toms foot right before even thinking about playing.

Where are Freos injuries from Optus?
Freo’s injury list has been quite shocking in the last few years, though how many are surface related is hard to say. Sydney blamed the surface for Buddy’s woes last season.

I’m told by a Freo supporting mate that Taberner had the same stress fracture injury as TB/Rioli last season and I know he missed significant time injured last year. I’m taking his word for it because **** researching Matt Taberner injuries in my spare time.

End of the season why don't they just rip up the surface ...add extra loam to the soil and next season it should be okay to good .
Optus Stadium trying to get an all round surface to cater for cricket etc , whenever the cricket was at Optus Stadium the outfield was as quick as any outfield in the world ...that indicates how hard the surface has been . Should refine it back to more loam , just like an extra scoop of ice cream instead add extra loam just not too much .

Official injury list is up. Rioli 4 weeks, Waterman a test, Barrass TBC (says they gave him every chance to get up for Good Friday but now they’ve determined it’s worse than they thought, sounds great) and NicNat still expected back late 2017.

I have heard its going to be a 12-14 week injury .

Not ideal as he was in some ripping form but if there has been a spot on the ground under Simmo where we have been able to adapt it has been the backline.

We have these options going forward:

- Schofield - VERY rusty but he is the sort of player that will play out of his skin so i would be backing him in first up.
- Shep - Can play taller if needed.
- O Allen - Played one game down back last year and didn't look out of place. We do this , this could bring in Waterman to cover his role.
- Brander - Played down back in the WAFL and doesn't look out of place. Could be a way to fit this talent into the squad.

It's a shocker, but it's an excellent chance to get games into some of our tall recruits. I'd like to see Brander get the spot with Oscar Allen pinch hitting in the ruck instead of playing 2 rucks. Allen and Brander could swap roles during games.

Would give us more run and get games into Allen/Brander, which would turn my frown upside down.

It's convenient to blame it on the ground, but he had the problem in pre-season and has obviously pushed it a bit too far. I think the root cause is over-training.
It seems pretty bloody inconvenient to me.

We train and play there more than Freo and have sustained a heap of foot injuries. Players from other clubs consistently complain about the surface and local journalists have questioned it over the summer.

It's clearly an issue.

This is the end. last time we lost a key defender we had to play a rookie - look how bad that turned out - cost us a fortune
