I was surprised that the leadership voting was as transparent as it was. I had actually expected a secret ballot. I suspect that some players might vote the PC way when they have to announce to the group who their votes are going to when that may not always be their preferred choice. The final result is unlikely to be significantly affected by it, but I'd probably prefer the secret ballot.

This was an excellent initiative. On the off-chance anyone involved in producing it is reading this thread, know that you've done a good service.
It was a great concept for building connections between the fanbase and the inner sanctum. Particularly for members like me who don't live in Melbourne, and so can't get to the Arden St events etc.
If I was nit-picking, the only criticism I have is that I wish they used a directional mic because the ambience in some of those meeting rooms is pretty cavernous. But I realise it would have been challenging given club media resourcing and the need to be unobtrusive to what was happening.
That aside, really looking forward to parts 2 and 3. Good work!

Really good insight. I just love any north content that gives details of what happens inside the 4 walls.

Good to see Bailey get recognised for his hard work. He is an intelligent kid, and while he doesn’t come across as “one of the lads” it’s good to see that those who play along side him respect the role he plays.

Another note, Viney seems to huge hands on approach with everything. For some reason I never really expected that of the GM of football. Every single thing I’ve heard about him has been nothing short of a glowing endorsement.

While Cunners isn’t the skipper you can tell he is the spiritual leader of this club and man it’s good to see him healthy and happy. Could he possibly be the most “north” bloke ever? He’d have to be in the top handful imo.

Imagine getting the “I’m proud of you mate”, from Ben Cunnington…would nearly be as big of a compliment as being named captain 😂😂😂😂😂😂

Just a thought. It might not have been a public vote at all. Perhaps they said write your votes down and then told them afterwards that they would have to read them aloud.

Just a guess. Doesn’t stop people changing their votes either I suppose.

Also in regards to LDU, perhaps he has no interest in captaincy or leadership on that level and has made that known. Somewhat a shame if so, but he’s never come across as a real out there kind of guy. Only real conclusion I can come to because I’d be very surprised if any players at the club had a problem with him.

Maybe I’m too glass half full.

Wouldn’t surprise me if LDU said he wasn’t ready and wanted to focus on his own game for the time being. He strikes me as the kind of kid who would be humble like that.

Plenty of gun players across their careers have chosen not to be in the leadership groups.

It’s a non-issue in my opinion.

I really enjoyed seeing the inner workings of the club which we never really see and look forward to what is next. I love this sort of content.

Ben Cunnington is the Godfather.

LMac got the most number of votes, why not just make him outright captain?
They don't give out B&Fs or MVPs or Brownlows based on the number of times you were voted for.

This is different, it’s deciding who will be leading the team for the next few years - one vote either way shouldn’t be the difference, where the votes are so close and joint winners is an option.

LDU is quite a reserved young man. This isn’t anything new, hence it’s no surprise. Players aren’t voted in purely on performance.

Has said he wants to focus on his leadership moving forward and I would expect him to be a part of the leadership group in a couple years.

Things can change, but I’m fairly certain that he won’t ever be captain. Which is completely fine.

Yeah I came to write exactly this. He is the Don. If he wanted to make Kayne Turner captain, Kayne would be the new skipper. 5 words from Ben is like a 10 minute speech from JZ.
Yeah cunners look like royalty sitting on the couch when it was announced to the whole squad.

I really liked what the club did with this.
Viney is coming across as a very accomplished operator
