We can only hope.
Geelong had pretty high expectations of Playfair a few years ago and the way the game has progressed has meant that players who have below average foot skills need to make it in other areas. Playfair is a good contested mark but I am still not sure of his value as a forward.

Friends of mine who support Geelong were happy he was traded.
Well since he has a good cotested mark if Roos points him at CHF that will force the Western Bulldogs to put their best defender on him. Even if he isnt the greatest kick it will hepl release O'Loughlin and O'Keefe as they will have inferior defenders on them.

That could work, he can take a grab. Just make sure the Goodes train is howling past for the handball...

Its been quite awhile since he played a game of AFL so maybe the Swans training staff have helped improve his kicking style.
Have you seen the way the entire team has been kicking in the forward line this year. I guess the only explanation for everyone else poor kicking form is that they must have been working around the clock on Playfair exclusively.

or Playfair has been helping them with their kicking techniques.

its too early to be talking about Henry. Lets see him kick a couple of bags in the 2s first.

I think White goes back to Canberra for this game. Spida should have a picnic out there on Sunday - in the ruck or at FF.

Meanwhile Matthews is playing well and Slick Nick from Jindavic didn't look all that flash on the weekend. Matthews was very good against the dogs last year at the SCG. Could play a negating role on Gilbee, or run with Cross or West or Griffen in the midfield, or take Aker and free up Bevan to play forward on Gilbee. Bevan did such a great job on Grant last week, and Aker is in the same mould so I'd leave him down back.

I just saw Roosy on GMA and he said that Davis will be going back to the two's for a month and Spida will be back this week.

Davo has had to have done something outside the team rules. We have never have dropped senior players when they have been a bit down on form before. So for Roosy to say 4 weeks, something is up.......

A month! Way harsh Roosy
I think a month is ok. This way Davo knows where he is and doesn't think he has to go out and kick ten goals in the 2's to get back into the side. He can concentrate on doing the things that the club is asking for him without having the added burdon of wondering each week if he will be selected or not.

I think its against team rules to butcher gimme set shots and then get toweled up by a young, 2nd string defender. He gave us nothing in the 2nd half of that game last week. He also looks like he's back on the cheeseburgers.

Rumour has it Henry will get his 1st game this week. Thats 4 big lumbering types against the bulldogs mosquito fleet. He must be training the house down to get a promotion so quickly.

I'm guessing out: White, Davis in: Everitt, Playfair

The formula just doesn't look right at the moment. We need someone offering a presence in the forward line or we'll never get over this Hall suspension. I had hopes that Jesse White might get the role, but he ended up coming in as a ruckman, and while he did his job, it didn't solve our problems so I always saw him as a chance to go back down.

Davo will be back. He just needs to get that confidence and intensity back. He was pretty invisible except for the few times we passed it to him, really. And he muffed his chances.

With Spida back as a ruckman, Playfair can come in as a forward. And if we plant him up there, perhaps we can crumb around him a bit. All I want is to see him do is crash some packs and offer us a target. Not so sure about his kicking, but he can take a contested mark and this is where Hall's absence around the ground is really making a difference for us at the moment.

And we all know that Spida is good for a goal or two as a forward option as well. So that should come in handy.

Going to be a very interesting round for Sydney this week. I think we'll get a good idea of where we're heading in the immediate future after this game.

How do J Bolton and Buchanan and Ablett and O'Keefe keeping getting games? How did McVeigh keep getting games last year?
They (arguably :p) contribute in other areas. Davis gets maybe 2-3 kicks a game. If he isn't converting those 2-3 kicks then he doesnt deserve a spot.

But Bolton's kicking is an absolute disgrace. Cost us the '06 grand final with 2 or 3 terrible misses in the first quarter.

J.Bolton missed two very difficult shots. Buchanan went OK. O'Keefe is within lead of every newspaper best player of the year poll. Ablett appears injured but appears to be carrying an injury. They definitely get a game in my side.
Who replaces the four?

I actually thought Jude played one of his better games of the season for us against North. But I agree he blew all that out of the water with those two set shots that went out of bounds. But that aside his tackling and pressure work was very good for us, I thought.

Bolton's tackling work is normally good. His disposal usually isn't, which is one of the reasons why we struggle to get the ball into our forward line to kick goals and why the game deteriorates into a stoppage fest.

Buchanan butchered the ball atrociously. I think he's really struggled to regain his consistency this year and his disposal has been wayward, like it was before his couple of great yers in 2005-06. We really need him to clear the ball and move it forward.

O'Keefe had little impact on the game. His influence and disposal have been mixed this year.

Looking at nogy at the aftermatch i wouldn't expect him to play. The club even has him on the injury list with a calf,if he is out i would expect Matthews to come in.

How do J Bolton and Buchanan and Ablett and O'Keefe keeping getting games? How did McVeigh keep getting games last year?
you aren't seriously questioning o'keefe's place in the team, or his form ... are you?
apart from missing too many shots at goal, which i am neither forgiving or excusing, he's been among our best most weeks
j bolton has been at least getting the ball, and ablett's been okay, amon up and down
but none of them is anywhere near where davis has slumped to
we were ALL asking the same question last year about mcveigh

No - it was a specific reference to "butchering gimme shots"!

I don't think he's playing as well as in the past, partly because his kicking has been wayward. But he's still one of our best.

Agreed, but J Bolton has been underperforming for more than a year now.

Different rules for different players?

mate, we've been asking that question about mcveigh for a year or so
no one can give any reason (well, none acceptable to me) as to why we persisted with mcveigh so often last year (and in 06) when his form was no better, and most often worse, than several players who saw time in the seconds, and two, schneider and dempster, who eventually got traded
but maybe he's taken it all on board because he's been far better, more consistent and (generally) harder at it this season (although bedford might have something more to say on that latter point)
jude has always been a liability in front of goal
o'keefe will come good with his kicking, and apart from that he's a champion
