Sorry to disagree with you Paul but Burton was shocking tonight too many bad disposals not thinking good footy players play good accountable footy Burton didnt,Bode was ok but honestly isnt upto it and needs to be dropped better players waiting to come into the side who are way better than Bode, something has got to give and **** players are what is going to have to give worst game I have seen Burton play and that is not acceptable from a player who has been playing AFL for 5yrs,Bode will be traded or delisted at seasons end Perrie is crap cannot keep his feet doesnt get in and have a go and will be delisted or traded at seasons end Bock well needs a run in the SANFL has had a bit of a go shown a bit but thin Reilly or Schuback should get a go ahead of him.

Just my 2c worth;)

Main problems I saw tonight:

1) Defence - Bassett tries but has never had the ability to be a full back. Begley was good, the rest have a lot of work to do if they're going to be part of a successful defence.

2) Spoiling each other - Was unbelievable how many times tonight 2 Crows went up against 1 Bomber, ended up spoiling each other and a second Bomber stayed at the back and picked it up.

3) Kicking at goal - Kick straight and the result could've been different. That 18 point margin could easily have been 3 points then they wouldn't have given up after Essendon kicked one.

Defence needs personnel change, the rest just needs some coaching. I don't know much about your youngsters but I think that's the way you should be going rather than bringing back Smart. He's been very good but with this season pretty much gone I don't think his selection will help the team any more.

Very unfair on Bode Stiffy. But you're right, he gets no game time worth talking about.

Perrie was disgraceful. Stevens was useless. Mattner was better than those 2 and I know I'm going to get howled down, but I'd like to see him get another couple of chances before we decide whether he's a keep or a delist at the end of the year. He does try and doesn't lack courage.

Out: Perrie, Stevens, Hudson and Bode

In: Rutten, Biglands, Goodwin and Reilly.

Too early for Watts IMO.

Biglands has strained Calf and will not play this week and is probably in doubt for Collignwood game as well. I thought Hudson was alright tonight. Bode should get more game time but we all know thats not going to happen so might as well get a youngster in there. We all know Mattner is not up to it so lets give a go to a youngster who is a better chance of making it.

If Watts plays another good game tommorrow then I would pick him. It is NOT too early for him. He is more AFL ready than most of the youngsters that are getting a game ATM. Not a KPP ready but he can play on the flank or out of the pocket.

As far as I am concerned the sooner we get 50 games ito those youngsters the better off we will be in the long run.

dyertribe, I am not fired up at all. I am gutted. I felt confident up until earlier today that we could win but when you remove the emotion and look at things rationally there was more chance of losing than there was of winning. This is a tough year that we are destined to have so lets make the most of it ;)

Agreed. I don't understand where all the vitriol poured on Potenschel and Bock is coming from either... They were nothing but kids put under the pump by other passengers with far more experience.

We need to keep playing them from now until the end of the season and look at bringing in Mega Watts in the second half of the year.

Failing that, we should redraft Fitzy to make us laugh and wave his old fella at the opposition fans Braveheart-style.

Regarding youngsters:

Some people are on some strong sh|t if they expect the youngsters to perform well on consistent basis. These are inexperienced kids whose form will fluctuate from week to week, quarter to quarter. We seriously cannot expect the likes of Hentschel, Bock and Jericho to be strong contributors week in week out. Not even the talent at St. Kilda performed on consistent basis. If they did, Saints would have made the finals in the last 3 years. We are in this situation now because we failed to blood youngsters 2 years ago and now we are trying to cramp in as many as possible in a last roll of the dice attempt to fast track a rebuilding process.

We must play these kids and take the good with the bad. Do we expect Bock or Hentschel to come in and keep Lloyd scoreless or do we expect Jericho to get heap of possesions, marks and kick a bag of 5 + goals. This will take time. We have to accept the good and the bad. Personally, tonight I thought Bock did reasonably well. I was impressed with a couple of his contests. A couple of times he found him self opposed to Lloyd and he did a fantastic job of not letting Lloyd take a mark. He provided a bit of rebound out of the backline and managed to kick a goal. While Lucas kicked 3 on Hentschel, Trent still did a reasonable job. We probably have the most inexperinced backile in the league ATM and if midfield gets slaughtered, we are very vulnerable and expectedly so. Even when we have our best backline on the park and our midfield get beaten ourr backline will get beaten. The backline is as goos as the midfield and is things start falling apart in the midfield the backline will be under pressure. Personally, I thought the youngsters in the backline did a pretty good job considering the pressure they are under.

We have to be prepared to pay the youngsters and we will either sink or swim with them but one way or the other its a good move for the long term future of the club.

Good summary Stiffy.

Stephen Trigg hates the word rebuilding. He always says that we are an evolving team.

As you correctly implied, we are a team that's rebuiding!! :D

Congrats to the Dons.

As for us, that was disgusting. We were'nt switched on from the word go.

We could'nt handle the ball at ground level. We could not hold a mark.

With the exception of Carey - the one bloke who looked like he gave a ****! He played well against the Dons last year too he must really hate them. AFC Forward Coach 2005 - W Carey.

When we did get the ball our skills and decision making were awful.

We persist with this short wide game plan and go nowhere.

We had no run and drive from defence.

Our forwards didnt apply enough pressure the the Dons defence and we couldnt read the play. The Dons ran the ball down the members side without any pressure that often its not funny. We couldnt handle it.

Changes have to be made - so which Crows are playing senior SANFL footy this weekend -

Hazell
Watts
Shirley
Skipworth
Andrews
Schuback
Rutten
Burns
Smart
Parker
Torney

Parker, Hazell and Andrews wont be considered, but it is nice to see Andrews named in the seniors. Up forward too.

I have seen enough of Shirley and Skipworth and wouldnt consider them.

If Reilly or Goodwin are fit I would put in one of those blokes next week and drop Burton.

I'd slot in Schuback for Bode. I wouldnt mind Torney in there - swap him for Mattner maybe?

Bad news about Biglands.

We need some talls at bothe ends who can take marks and provide leadership.

I cant see Hart walking straight into the side. His Round 1 game was awful and I think he needs some time in the SANFL.

Is Smarty still up to it? Is Burns?

Rutten could hold down FF. I wouldnt mind Watts on a HF flank/pocket. If Carey can hold down CHF a Watts, Carey, Rutten combo could be OK. Watts and Rutten should straighten us up. Both of them can take strong marks and have footy brains.

If that happened, McGregor can go back to defence and Perrie and Stevens can be dropped.

Its interesting, we say play the kids, give them the experience this year, for the future, BUT then we get stuck into them if they don't perform to "potential" immediately, and consistently.
Where's the rationale in that?

Well said Stiffy!
Thought Bock played his best game last night, strange, it would have be viewd differently had we won.
Our midfield (or lack of) caused our defence and offence immense problems last night. Hope Goody comes back soon, and we draft a couple of midfielders urgently.
And oh for a full back:) Could Bock do the job - didn't look too bad when on Lloyd? I will restate Bock is seriously bad below his knees, and needs to improve dramatically.

We have a full-back. Unfortunately he is currently playing at CHF, inconsistently.
The thing with Bock, is he has more mobility, and dash, which "could" be an answer at FB (says he clutching at straws) ;)
