I think Banno will go out this week, not because of his performance last night, but because of the match ups. Banno excels at locking down over sized mids like Cornes or Delideo, but from my quick look at the Saints line up they really don't have a player in that mold.
The great thing about Banno is he is versatile. He could run with Dal Santo or take Charlie Gardiner. Banno stays.

In: Hampson, Kreuzer (I hope they are fit), or Russell
Out: Hartlett, Hadley

Hadley looked very underdone and we can't take Judd, Stevens and Hadley into games and expect to run out the fourth quarter. Get some mile into his legs in the Ants and then give him a crack.
If Kreuzer is fit, he will run the game out, and will provide a better option up forward than Hadley. If Kreuzer isn't fit then Russell may play this role better and give us a bit more run than Hadds at the minute.:thumbsu:

Why are you people leaving out (forgetting?), or omitting Jackson?? Do you blokes even know your list?

Obviously not. All this talk about dropping Jackson and Bannister is annoying. I watched Jackson play a lot last year and he showed more hunger and determination than most. Something we lacked a lot of on Thursday

Jackson to run with Harvey or Hayes, Banno to run with Dal Santo if we want to take that path, Banno could even take Milne or Charlie Gardiner.

Bentick could replace Hadley, therefore meaning Jackson's spot isn't under threat, I agree that at the moment, taking 3 underdone players into a game isn't a very good option, I have nothing against Hadley and certainly like his approach and toughness, but play him in the Ants, although, Bentick isn't likely to be 100% either, so, really... who knows?

I hope Edwards stays in, but if both Fisher and Kreuzer are fit, then Edwards might miss out, but if Kreuzer doesn't come up, then Edwards stays, he was a great option on Thursday night and could have a big game if we can stretch the Saints defence.

Grigg might miss out if we bring in another hard running midfielder/defender like Armfield or Pfeiffer.

Can't see Bentick coming in for this reason.
He is still coming back from an injury and won't run the game out all that well, which is why (much to many people's dismay) I'd back Russell. He'll at least run the game out.

I think we had some pretty poor matchups against Richmond that really worked for them. I mean Waite on Hughes, you've got to be kidding, but Richmond's no name half forward line (on the night) worked hard enough, and the Richmond midfield were able to run around and deliver deep to Richardson. So alot of our half back line was neutered, it may have even been worthwhile trying Waite at FB to at least bring him in the game.

St Kilda presents a different kettle of fish, with big name forwards everywhere in G-train, Riewoldt and Kosi, each requiring a taller defender. Waite taking Riewoldt is a given, Jamison on Gehrig and Kosi...god I dont know. Maybe Setanta.

In midfield Jackson is a must. He has to take out one of Harvey or Hayes. Both have killed us forever.

We need to tag Montagna and Gram as well, and I'd like to think Armfield will be brought in to take Gram. Either that or Houlihan as defensive forward which he did so well last year.

Up forward we need to keep Cloke in to play as an extra marking forward, with some bash and crash to spill the packs.

In: Hampson, Fisher, Armfield
Out: Hartlett, 2 others I can't pick - there will be shocks, probably 2 of Edwards, Setanta and Betts?

Agree, but would ideally prefer someone who in between all the running tries to get the football.

let Judd, Stevens, Simpson, Murphy and some others worry about that, and kick it to Fev, what was abundantly obvious from last weeks game is that we need some quick, hard runners around HF who simply have a role of applying forward pressure and not letting the opposition run the ball our of HB in numbers. I think JR is the type of player you could give such a role to. OF course unless he gets it 20 times he will be scorned on BF.

Ins-
Kreuzer, Hampson, Fisher

We got killed at centre half forward last week as there was no one to make a contest. We need one of the three ruckmen resting up forward to stretch their defence and chop out fev!

Outs-
Hartlett, Bannister, and Edwards

We won't be able to stop all 3 big men at the saints forward line but our midfield will be too quick for theres. Bannister doesn't have a match up and would be wasted in the midfield as a tagger as that's where we have the advantage. Can't carry edwards and betts one has to go.

actually i think Bannister would be a great option to take on Hayes

same size if not bigger than Hayes, definately has the motor to run with him all day.

i actually think that would be his only position.

Jackson gets Harvs, Bannister Hayes

Montagna will probably play against Judd, Murphy doesnt have the plick Baker

thoughts?

No point tagging there onballers let them worry about ours.
I would be nervous having JB and Jackson in at centre bounces and running around the midfield.
I belive Ball and Hayes will be forced to play a negative role if carlton's midfield get on top early.

I'd rather play Pfeiffer in that role, who supposedly has a very good pair of hands and might be able to snag a goal or two.

Could live with that, probbaly doesn't have the out and out leg speed of Russell but he does seem more of a natural footballer who reads the game better :thumbsu:

I'd like to see us go with:

-Waite to Play on Riewoldt is a given as you said.
-Thornton to play on Gehrig. I think he is the best match up that we have for Gehrig. Setanta got smashed last year and i think Jamieson proberbly doesn't have the strength to go with him.
-Setanta to play on Koschitzke simply because of the height factor (assuming Hampson will be back to play in the ruck).
-Jamieson to play on Charlie Gardner (we shouldn't be underestimating him)

I posted this in the Thread "Where is Bentick"

1st of all Bentick is just as important to our team thangetting back Stevens. He adds strength around a contested situation, he will BLOCK and make a passage for Juddy (which was a main reason behind him being so good at W.C), his tackles stick, not like a pissy effort of sticking a hand and and getting brushed aside but tambling, pettifer and co...

for those of you who want to make 4-5 changes its a silly move. We need to give the players a chance to redeem themself, unlike the pagan era when if they stuffed up they were off and then dropped (Russell).

for mine the changes should be
In: Bentick, Fisher and Hampson
Out: Hartlett maybe Jackson (but he usually gets the job on Harvey), the rest will be stiff. Bower played well enough to keep his position and Grigg (id like to see play on Montagna). Betts is needed, he kicked 2 goals last week, what do some of you guys expect from him, Edwards' debut was pretty good and enough for him to go around again. Bannister you would imagin will go to Dal Santo, so its going to be a really hard decision.

pffiefer has to play ths weekend.

I would like to see these changes

ins kruezer, hampson, fisher, pffiefer

outs, sentana, hartlett, betts and bannister ( there is no need for both of him and jackson in the side)

one loss in and already 4 changes.

IN'S
kruezer a must
hampson must come in also
fisher might give him another week
pfiefer give him a week with the ants

OUT'S
sentana if the match committee think his fit and has a match up in the backline pick him. if not get him some form in the two's he is a liability in the ruck
hartlett suspended
betts are you kidding who is going to be our small forward. scored a very good crumbing goal last week and had limited chances.
bannister i thought he did a good job on deledio. very cheap goal kicked on him and the former number 1 pick lol didnt have a massive impact

Pfeiffer Jamison Thornton
Bower Waite Scotland
Houlihan Carrazzo Simpson
Gibbs Cloke Fisher
Edwards Fevola Murphy
Hampson Judd Stevens
Kruezer Hadley Jackson Grigg

Yep happy with that.
Kruezer goes to CHF when Cloke rucks, Hampson on bench for a rest.
Murphy/Gibbs/Hadley/Jackson rotating through the middle.
Grigg rotating off half back and Scotland through the middle.
Yep happy with that.
Now we must work on our pressure and endevour for 4 quarters.

I'm not sure that brining in Pfeiffer, another player with an interrupted pre-season is the way to get a 4 quarter effort.

We faded on the back of Judd, Stevens, Hadley,O'hAilpin and to a lesser extent Hartlett (as a lead up CHF) not being able to run out the game.
Bringin in Pfeiffer or Bentick won't help. They are underdone as well.

I'd leave Betts in, but otherwise I'd probably bring in Armfield to play on Milne and free up Scotland or Hoops to run up the ground. Armfield will keep running all night and won't give Milne much space.

couldn't you make a direct swap for betts and pffiefer?

Betts doesn't do enough as a small crumbing forward to cement himself in the team. Time and time again he misses those shots that are bread butter for small forwards. If betts plays this weekend what about playing him on milne?
