Now that we are officially in chucking mode........

In Davidson (give him a go) Williams (only form player left at Willy, farewell game) B Johnson (to remind him he's a required player at Collingwood)

Out Egan (not enough game time and form is off) Buckley (protect for next year) T Cloke (out of form/still injured and needs the rest of the year at Willy)

Buckley wont go IMO

wouldnt mind seeing Tommy Davidson in....i thought he was gone for the remainder of this year, thought he had broken down again

Williams deserves one last game to get the vitriol level on this board up nice and high

Trav is stuffed mentally, get him back to Willy

Did Buckley spend much time at full forward on the weekend? i heard that was the plan somewhere.

So how do you lot feel about him there? Seems like a good idea - he could play FF no worries and worry the opposition defence. For example, if he started there this weekend I'd imagine Bassett would get him. Love Bass, but not sure he really has the strength to go with Bucks.

Any thoughts?

Buckley has played FF/FP all month, and kicked 17 goals in 8 games this year, including 16 goals in the last 6 games (including a game in the midfield when he kicked 0.1)

Played FF last week kicking 4.3 and giving off a couple.

Out Lokan and Morrison

The next two rounds could be the best opportunity for some one to buy there spot in the team for a once of. How much would you pay to play.

Won't happen but I'd rest Buckley, Burns, Licuria, Clement, Presti and Wakelin and bring in who ever is fit.
You think if we had six fit players to bring in we'd be where we are today???

There are very few players that are able to come in over the next two weeks. I think all that's left are:
Williams
Rowe
Richards
Davidson
Johnson
Iacobucci
Hall

However since only Williams was amongst the best six, I can't see the others getting a game for no reason. We don't have injuries out of the Carlton game, from memory. Let's go unchanged!

Finally Richards comes back.
I've been waiting all year for him to get another run.
Hopefully he doesn't injure himself again, and can use these two games as a springboard for next season.

Rest for what? Next week????

In other words you would throw the game in. Not very Collingwood is it?
No, because we want them 100% by next year. If any of them suffers any major injuuries in the last 2 games then it will be avoidable. Whats the point of playing them in the last 2 remaining games that mean nothing?

No its not, but no pain no gain. We dont write the rulebook regarding priority picks. At least we're honest enough to admist we dont want to win another game this year. Other teams in the past have pretended that they werent throwing games but they were just unlucky and out of form. We should be applauded for our honesty.

Not throwing the game. What is the point of putting these warriors on a plane for a meaningless game and risk them getting inured? Particularly Buckley. There is more point in playing Hall, Morrison etc. Give these blokes 2 weeks off and send them to somewhere warm to lie on the beach or get any operations they might need. Burns and Licuria have struggled a bit at time this year anyway and we need to find new backs to cover for Wakelin in the short term and Presti and Clement in the medium term.

I agree that not approaching every single game with desperation to win in not very Collingwood like. The fact is the AFL doesn’t suit being Collingwood like and actively penalises it. For mine I’d rather challenge the rules so we can be Collingwood like but that doesn’t help us this week.

You can blame teh AFL as much as you like, but the choice is still yours

All teams who can't make the finals have the same choice. Try to win or play for draft picks.

My team has missed the finals on many occasions but I havn't seen them not try to win every game.

Yeah well we've made it, so ******** off.

The 2005 season is still alive. Its yet to be seen whether the chucking model (West Cost and StKilda) or the win every game model (Adelaide and Sydney) is going to be the template for the future, but I can take a fair guess who will have a Premiership medallion this year and who wont, and who will be back in 2006 and beyond because their priority picks have added youth to their list.

Blame the AFL for what? We are where we are due to poor drafting and poor trading in and out - in other words poor list management. I don't blame the AFL I blame Malthouse, the footy department and the board of CFC. Who's to blame is relevant to solving the problems but not to what we do today given where we are. I hate the fact that draft and particularly priority picks are a factor with a passion but the fact is they are. I hate when it rains but I still go out when I have to and I dress appropriately for the weather. It isn't just about the picks though. It also about the players themselves as well as the list for 2006.

Some asked me if I was going to Adelaide for the game. I answer why on earth would I take the time and spend the money to go and watch a game I didn't want Collingwood to win? That is the future for teams fighting for priority picks. The biggest problem is clubs tanking but supporters not wanting to win. That is the realm threat to the AFL. The club won’t rest the players I mentioned. I just want them to. I can tell you one thing though, if I was on the board I would be 100% honest and say that the farcical priority pick system overlayed on a reverse ladder draft asks clubs to lose for reward and if the AFL has a problem with clubs doing what it encourages it had better stop encouraging it.

Blame them for making a deliberate loss an option. They only make it an option; clubs make it a reality.

I agree that priprity picks are wrong. But that doesn't mean you go out and try to lose. It has to stop somehwere.

The Commission in theory makes decisions for the best interests of the comp. Perhaps Eddie hasn't argued strongly enough against priority picks. A reason for that perhaps?

Priority picks have been around for years and have been taken advantage of by over half the teams in the competition in that time. What makes it Eddies job to argue against them? How is he the guilty party all of a sudden when nobody gave a rats when Footscray StKilda West Coast Fremantle Hawthorn Richmond Carlton and Brisbane were taking advantage of the rule?

Jars I don't want Collingwood to try to lose at all. However I don't want them to win. There is a difference.

As for Eddie, Collingwood voted for their removal this year. All or most of the other clubs voted otherwise. I am glad Collingwood went that way even though they were as likely as anyone ot benefit this year.

Theres no difference at all, Mark. Be honest. You cant want them to try their best but still lose. You need to make up your mind and quit the semantics.
