Ins And Outs vs Port

pendles is not far off, and if he is going to debut soon, its either this game or the carlton game, coz after that i think we play the eagles at subi, the dogs at telstra and the cats at the G, not games id pencil in for a debut, albeit, if he is knocking down the door of first team selection, than by all means, but id reckon, id almost get it over and done with either this week, or the blues game the week after. dunno, just the way id do it.

With the loss of Dean Brogan, Brendan Lade will run virtually the entire game in the ruck. Rather than have two finesse ruckman in Fraser and Richards, I'd like to see Cameron Cloke come in and be super physical in all ruck contests against Lade. Then bring Josh in to run him off his feet. Lade is a huge part of PA's structure and I think with the short rest and lack of back up we need to beat on him with a thick body as much as possible.

As far as match-ups....I'd like to see Jimmy Clement at CHF in a defensive role against Chad Cornes. He could follow him into the midfield also when he goes on the ball which Cornes has done the past couple of weeks.

Wakes to replace Travis CLoke to give us another tall defender in case Presti gets hurt or needs relief in his match up with Tredrea.

i like your thinking! pretty much agree with u on all counts but i dont think we should be playing clement on cornes at CHF! perhaps playing taz at chf forward on Cornes. Taz did well against McPhee (who is also a rebounding player similar to cornes) cornes isnt to big a guy for taz to play on either. I think Taz with his exceptional work rate would stop Cornes from being so influential in the middle!

Too many changes, you dont make wholesale changes to a side that has won 3 in a row convincingly.

His game vs. Essendon was underrated. Sure he screwed up and fumbled a bit, but he got a fair bit of it tried to be creative and was rarely beaten one on one.

He was fed the ball by his teammates at every opportunity. They were clearly trying to encourage the boy to get into the game. He did ok, but made some errors, and against the experienced and bigger Port forward line-up they may prefer Wakes back into the 22.

Out: Holland (susp),

In: R Shaw (if matchfit) or Caracella

Other possible changes to be considered and probably rejected

Wakelin for O'Brien
Caracella/R Shaw/Pendlebury for Davis

Oops forgot about Davies

Out: Holland
In Davies

O'Brien for Wakelin to be closely considered.

You would think Caracella or Davies would be the front runners for Brodie's spot. With maybe Pendlebury an outsider, but I reckon they will give Pendles another 5/6 weeks in the VFL at least to build up his fitness after glandular fever.

O'Brien deserves another run but we need to look at Damon White at CHF who is probably too tall for Harry and Maxy, but would be a good match up for Wakes. Reckon Wakes may play on White.

CC is a better match-up for Lade than Richards, but doubt they will make the change (hopefully it doesn't cost us in the end result). CC's form for Willi last week didn't exactly demand selection either.

Wouldn't call 3 changes (1 forced) as wholesale. I understand that three changes for a team on a three game win streak maybe unusual but football has changed.

We need to consider the 5 day turnaround as well as the make-up of our opponent. PA are rather unorthodox both in style and in the make-up of their line-up.

Travis Cloke in great form?

The guy has three goals and 34 touches in four games of footy.

I love the kid but thats not great form. Even his dad would agree......nah, maybe not.

Travis Cloke, your fing kidding me.

Doesnt not deserve to be and will not be dropped.

In great form :thumbsu:
Why don't people understand what Travis's role is?
He is still learning.
He is there as the third tall, it takes a very good player to play on him, which takes some of the pressure off Taz and Ant.
If the opposition put a dud on Travis, he will cut the opposition to pieces.

Why is that so hard to understand?

3 goals and 34 touches in 4 games is fine for the 3th tall.

Not got quantity yet but its all quality.

Quite happy with whats hes producing and believe he will only get better.

Lastly no one has put their hand up and earnt his spot.

Travs doing his bit. Showing bits and pieces every week, enough to prove he's a potential gun.

He'll only improve by being out there every week.

Probably does not deserve a spot on form alone, but for the sake of team development is rightly an automatic selection. I'd review him in about 3 or 4 weeks, if his form does not pick up by then, maybe drop him then.

I agree that he is still learning and he has a role that could limit his output somewhat. However, he is just a kid and needs time and opportunity to develop and sometimes he would be better suited going back to the VFL and taking on the number 1 key position role. Particularly if his ground time is being reduced in the firsts.

I think the kid is our future and I am very comfortable with that, suggesting he goes back to Willy is not a bagging of him......simply an opinion that from what I have seen in the first month - he needs 100 mins on the ground and a run as "the man" in the forward line.

Nah .. Taz will be your possible match winner. WIth Wakelin out we are a defender short. Chaplin would now be our best defender and will get Rocca and Bishop will be running two or three metres behind Tarrent for the entire match. If he kicks straight he could end up with ten goals.

Think of Cornes as a midfielder who would only be placed back in defence as a Mr Fix it, which considering our current big defenders might be some time half way through the first quarter!

Pendlebury on VFL form would deserve a go, as would Davies, C.Cloke and even J.Cloke. Since Holland is the one out, Pendlebury and Davies are a chance to come in, but then again we have Caracella who could come in and he is damaging. However apart from his great game against Hawthorn he has been pretty quiet.
It's out of Pendlebury, Davies and Carra and whether we will bring Wakelin in or not.

I was hoping broady would appeal, also got the feeling MM rested wakes last week as he was not needed and will get a run this week for harry and goto the under done tredda.

I would like to see pendlebury play.. but doubt it very much..

I would think cara will come in....

Personally i dont rate Obrien so think the will be dropped

I dont rate Davies (looks like a hard tryer) so dont think he will come in

And Wakes will come in

just wondering if anyone knows who Pendlebery was playing on against the bullants? everytime he gets the ball he is a mile in the clear.

only reason i ask is that im not completly sold on him being ready for seniors, he gets a lot of the ball but they seem to be easy touches linking up. dont get me wrong i think he is going to be a good player i would just like to see how he goes under a bit of pressure one on one.

Holland for Caracella seems the go. Without having seen much of Port or their lineup O’Brien out for another runner. Short break and losing a runner in Holland means we definitely need another running midfielder. Shaw only played half quarters so at least another week for him. Given our lack of midfield depth I’d be very tempted to bring in Penders. I’d like to drop Davis but he likes Port so let him do some of the work on the ball. Give Wakes a rest. Port are not overly blessed with tall forwards and will have to counter our tall forwards. We need to match them on the ground and beat them in the air but they start with a big ruck advantage. Richards just isn’t cutting it and need a stronger body than either he or Fraser can offer.

In Caracella, Penders, C.Cloke
Out Holland O’Brien, Richards.

Think about Davies also.

In reality there won't be more than 1 or 2 changes to side that has won 3 on the trot.

If we were dropping Davis I would bring in Caracella. But if we want to keep our depth in midfield, which has been a strength of ours, then we don't bring Caracella in for Holland. Davies will be a very very good player in the mould of Burns. I don't know why people don't rate him, his disposal is also good without being great. But he will be crucial to our inside midfield game once Burns retires, and Licuria starts to go on the wane, which is possibly already happening, so it would be best to start giving him the games to develop. There is no rush to bring in Pendlebury, particularly after his illness it would be devastating to his development if it was to recur again. Leave Pendles and Rhyce to recover full fitness before bringing them in.

We don't need to make any other changes. O'Brien might look awkward in attack, but in my opinion he isn't a liability defensively and will give a very good contest. Therefore we can live with him in the side, while also reaping more reward with his accelerated development which he wouldn't get at Willi. He will be a top quality backman in the mould of a taller Chris Johnson IMO.

Only one change and thats what alot of us thought, Davies in for Holland

Happy with that.

Unless we are playing a team with two monsters up forward (i.e Richmond with Richo and Stafford) the days of both Wakes/Presti in the side could be numbered. Definately have a much fleet footed running backline with Maxy, Clement and O'Brien playing dual tall/small roles.
