Not really surprised Matner has been selected as he has been in good SANFL form. Just hope he is not given a tagging job on say a Kane Cornes - leave that to Stinger.

Bock is lucky & would have thought Schuey was more deserving.
I would hope, they realise now, Mattner is not a tagger.

Bock I thought was better against Geelong, than Richmond. The 2 goals in his first game flattered him IMO. Against Geelong in the action a bit more and didn't disgrace himself.

Actually Mattner usually plays as a wingman for Sturt and sometimes as a HBF.

Begley has been terrific in matching up on small forwards and matches up on them better than Mattner. I would like to see Jericho and Johncock as wingmen.
Would Jericho have the fitness to run the wing all day???Wouldnt Burton be a better option???

Would play Carey out of a FF pocket & use Perrie mainly as a decoy to keep C Cornes out of the action. We should then use our mix it up with our marking mid-targets in Welsh, Burton, Jericho & Stiffy, particularly given Monty is out they may stretch their backmen overhead if we can keep our talls (& hence Wakelin & C Cornes) away from most marking contests.

In the midfield would run Stinger on K Cornes & Macca on P Burgone (as hopefully he will make Macca work hard & take him to the action).

In defence, Kenny must play on Tredders. Sarge would be suicide IMO. Probably Hentschel on Thurstans, Begley on S Burgoyne, Massie on Dew. Edwards needs to return to his best in the "sweeper" role for us to win.

Jericho doesn't need to run on th ewing the whole game. If he can run a hlf out I would be happy with that. We could always rotate Jericho and Doughty on the wing. I would also play Johncock on the other wing and Burton as a leading FF and Carey out of the pocket.

I can bet that everything I have suggested will not happen.

What you will see is Kenny at CHF and Perrie on Tredrea. Tredrea will destroy Perrie which gives the excuse to the coaching staff to drop Perrie the following week aying he is badly out of form and bring i Biglands to play in key defensive position leaving Kenny to play as a CHF for the rest of the year.

If Kenny doesn't play on Tredrea then AFC is not fair dinkum about this game.

Firstly I agree on your match ups. I don't think we will tag Kane Cornes. My money is either on James or Wilbur.

I would like to play McLeod off HBF. McLeod is nowhere near disciplined enough to tag someone. He is very lose so Burgoyne would run wild. I would play Edwards on P. Burgoyne. I think your backline match ups are OK except maybe Bassett or Bock will get Thurstans and Hentschel will take the resting ruckman.

I'd be tempted to throw Hentschel at Tredrea for a little bit, to see what's he made of.

But for real, I'd say Massie against P Burgoyne, and perhaps Begley against Ebert. Everything else I had to offer has already been said word for word, you blokes are too quick for me.

You are kidding. Tredrea is as good a forward as there is in the comp whilst Trent is still learning his craft.

I would only play Hentschel on Tredders if are in unloseable position (which is bloody unlikely).

IMO Massie lacks pace for P Burgoyne.

Why would we tag Wilson? Can understand tagging James if he had been on fire, but it's his 1st game back.

The last game we won against Port, Macca played a corker. Without Goody, Roo can't do it on his own, so time for the real Andrew McLeod to step forward. Would match him up on P Burgoyne & let him know before the match that the media are not claiming he is no longer the better player of the 2. Fire him up for his 200th!! If Macca can't fire up for a showdown & his 200th, then we are stuffed.

1. Because he is theor toughest nut and the best remaining in and under player. If Wilson doesn't get it other outside midfielders don't have as much impact.

2. Kane, don't ever get into that line of thinking. James is one of the best midfielders going around and he has had 2 or 3 games under his belt in SANFL with reserves and league side. Players like James don't take long to find their feet. The bloke is a match winner and as such should be closely minded. Port are banking on us thinking the same way as you have. If we don't tag James he WILL win the West End Medal. The most underrated player in the comp.

IMO, with Carr out injured, K Cornes & P Burgoyne are Port's most 2 influential midfielders based on current form. Stinger would be too slow for SnrB, so reckon he should play on Cornes. James will be lacking match pratice, so won't be as big as danger IMO, so play someone like Stiffy on him. Wilson is not the type of player you can tag out of the game, as he plays well in close. He is likely to play in defence any way.

Wilson has been playing in the midfield more this year and with Carr out he will spend more time in there. He is their best inand under player that is fit. You just watch James if we don't mind him. He will tear us to bits.

Kane will get McLeod. Burgoyne is not a real in and under player but he is getting better at it.

I wouldn't tag Wilson but I would be very wary of Roger James. He may lack a bit of match fitness but that doesn't stop him from clearing the ball from stoppages.

It was interesting to hear that even a couple of weeks ago when he was about to come back through SANFL Port were doing a ruck / clearance training drill and he cleared about 8 of the 10 they did. That's how damaging this guy can be and if we leave him unchecked in the middle he will spank us.

Never said SnrB was a real in & under player, but heck he can tear us to bits with his possessions. Him & K Cornes worry me more than James lacking match fitness. I don't under-rate James at all, but we can't tag everyone! Wilson isn't the type of player you can quell much my tagging.

Attention Bassett haters. I trust you all saw that Bassett was in the votes in the Talking Footy coaches awards last week. Yeah, real stinker he played didn't he?

Now, to this weeks game. I hope Port do use Kane Cornes in a tagging role on Macca. Frankly, at this moment in time, Kane is a much more damaging player than Macca and this would take him out of the play to some extent. I'd imagine that Williams will not start with that match up.

Kane, like your thinking regarding Carey, however can't see it happening.

Happy to give Mattner a chance, hopefully he's improved over the summer.

I am not a Bassett hater but I don't think he is the answer at FB. He had a very good game last week. His form in the last 2 or so games has been good. I think Spindoctor is the one that would sayhe played a stinker even if he was BOG and got 3 Brownlow votes ;)

I was thinking about how to negate Chad's run. Firstly we must play 2 talls in the forward line. Maybe rest Hudson as a 3rd tall. If we move Carey to CHF and deliver it to him properly it might make Chad vaulnerable in body on body contest as Carey is stronger. Move Perrie to FF and resting ruckman to the pocket. This might force Port to move Wakelin on Carey at CHB and Chad to FB or BP. This might work but it might go other way.

Delivery has to be good. If the delivery is high up and under crap that we have been serving them Chad will have a field day. He will marrk everything coming his way and kill us on the rebound

Thoughts??????

Agree Stiffy re Bassett as full back, however at this moment of time we have no other real option.

What gets me is that when he gets beaten at full back (usually by blokes with 10kg and 5cm+ on him) people say its because he's a bad player. Crap. He is a great team man and 1%er, who would be a wonderful second or third defender. He's just not made for the likes of Gehrig and Lynch. Not his fault. Blame our recruiters who've had years to address this issue.

Good point, though still reckon Macca needs a vintage game if we are any chance of winning.

I can't see it happening either, but if we are to win, we need to pull afew unexpected positional changes to through out Choco's thinking.
