KANGAROOS (to play HAWTHORN )

Backs: S Motlop Watt Archer
Half-backs: Blakey McCartney King
Centres: Rawlings Simpson Grant
Half-forwards: Pickett Carey McKernan
Forwards: Colbert Rocca Harvey
Followers: Burton Stevens
Rover: Clayton

Interchange: Cochrane Jones McLaren Morrell

Emergencies: Petrie Makepeace Sinclair

In: Carey Morrell
Out: Martyn (hamstring) Petrie

I guess Digger's inclusion answers a couple of questions.
Good to see Makey as emergency at least. Get back out on the paddock soon, son!

I suppose I wasn't the only one to think Diggers played well last week. :)
Yes, it's great to see Makey making his way back. Was never going to be a straight-in inclusion after 5-6 weeks off, but he must be held in high regard to be named as an emergency with no match-fitness under his belt. That's a good long-term sign.

Yes, Diggers was fantastic on the weekend. He's generally so reliable in the ressies, you're almost relieved when the ball floats into his hands. I hope he gets a decent go this week.

Where do you reckon they'll play him? Covering Mick down back or just have him on & off the bench as he has become accustomed to?

On paper it would seem we are one tall option short down back, with Micky out injured, and Carey may start at CHB, but Pagan has been loath to use him there this year. A bit of reshuffling, using the versatility of Archer and Colbert, should see this problem addressed in terms of manpower, at least until the correct match-ups are found.

How's about these? :)

Watt - Croad
Colbert - Thompson
McCartney - Holland
Archer - Barker
Blakey - Dixon

Burton - Rehn
Grant - Woods
Stevens - Crawford
Cochrane - Harford
Simpson - Chick
Clayton - Johnson
Harvey - Tallis
King - Smith

It becomes a bit of a cat and mouse game, so use of talls off the bench could be important. Morrell in the forward line alongside Rocca, Carey and McKernan sounds a bit dodgy, but if it doesn't work, Carey could go into the backline to take Holland.
At the same time if we went with a very tall forward set up, it would mirror what Hawthorn are trying to do. Top-heavy or not, the options would be to match up or go for a mismatch. If Schwab matches up the four talls, he would have to "borrow" Croad from the forward line and put him on one of our guys.

Carey - Rawlings.
McKernan - Graham.
Rocca - Hay.
Pickett - McCabe
Jones - Lekkas

BENCH
KANG : Rawlings, Morrell, Motlop, McLaren
HAW : Nicholls, Bateman, Barlow, Picioane

I think our defence, even without Micky, looks to at least physically match the Hawks, and that's even if we don't use Carey in defence.
Hawthorn, on the other hand, are clearly outsized by our guys, which could of course be a good thing or a bad thing (size advantage = possible top-heaviness).
Rehn will play in the ruck for the bulk of the game - Burton would annihilate Thompson in the middle.

Rehn won't play. An arthoroscope last week almost makes it a certainty. Expect Boffa to come in for him.
We match up well. Midfield is there weakest spot, that is where we must strike.
Expect Jones to start with Digby to come on soon after to get a mix match. Both teams use bench a lot, sio expect a lot of tiddily winks in the opening minutes.

....and hopefully it won't be too long before we see the BOAT come in and for the TURTLE to get promoted onto the senior list ;)

hehehehe, after the 'cheap' chardy I didn't remember the other names til later on in the night.

Good old Boats - I think I'm in trouble for dobbing him in about his little indescretion a couple of years back.

It was BOATS - plural.

I wonder if they 're-corked' the red wine seeing the bottle was open and we didn't pour a drop, oh hang on, maybe it was HOUSE wine and they poured it back into a barrel!
