Welsh is the obvious inclusion along with lovett if he has earned it.

i believe that we need pev in the team as he is a better tag then slattery and can actually win the hard ball in the midfied, an extra body that we got smashed at today.

Hopefully the boys will be fuming and look at getting that percentage back against the blues next week

im going to get a lot of flak for this.
but everyone is entitled to their opinon.

In: Lovett, Welsh, Monfries, Bellchambers
Out: Dempsey, JJ, Slattery, Lonergan.

Dempsey obvisouley injured which is a real bugger since he had an injury free pre season and now this comes up. Bad luck Dempsey.

JJ it's hard to say really been such a great servent for us. In the last quarter today when he went through that Geelong player out on the flank was the JJ of old but the bad thing is that it was a one off. I think the MCG will be just too much ground to cover for him.

Slattery just needs a rest in the reserves i think. Didn't think he was that bad today but just needs a rest get some confidence back up and come back fit and firing. reminds me a lot of Gary O'Donnell. Keep ya chin up Slats

Lonergan, just unlucky, just one of those players that will unfortunately miss out. Loved some of the things he did but there's no I in team

Lovett not hard to say that he MUST come back into the side next week with his stand-out performance for Bendigo on Saturday

Welsh, yes i did say, i dont how we are going to fit him in the team. Comes out on Saturday for Bendigo, kicks 5 in the first half. Someone who does that must come in lol. Also can give us another option up forward.

Monfries, most courageous by far in the team (some may disagree but thats what i think) and that's what we need some courage in the team. Also played well for Bendigo, just made some little mistakes but we all make mistakes don't we

The reason we need to bring Bellchambers is because we need a decent tall ruckmen who can win a ruck tap unlike Hille. Hille has to play out of the square or at CHF while Lucas is out with injury. Laycock and Bellchambers to take the centre bounces and defensive rucks and Hille can do the body on body work in the forward line with Laycock/Bellchambers a kick behind the play. Honestly, it's worth a try isn't it.
Also with Hille down in the Carlton backline, it will stretch their defence and give us another target with Lloyd, McPhee (although he couldn't catch a cold in the Antartic today) but it would certainly be worth trying it.

Thoughts?

having watched both the vfl and afl games this round i don't think there will be much gained making wholesale changes.

essendon were pumped by the best in the business and no side is near them at present.

welsh isn't ready for seniors yet only playing 1st half and experienced quad tightness. lovett definitely is so is obvious replacement for dempsey. courtney johns copped a corkie, neagle couldn't get near it and had issues with a calf, monfries was just average. that leaves reimers and hislop who would be next in line but reimers is a bit of an outside player which we have plenty of. hislop i could make a case for as he's hard at it with reasonable skills. however having missed practice matches due to discipline i think he should wait another week. hooker was best of the big men but isn't ready nor is tayte pears, would be ridiculous to play bellchambers at this stage - he'd be much worse than laycock.

in summary if it were me i'd hold firm making one change.

in: lovett
out: dempsey

emergencies: hislop, reimers, hooker

if they perform poorly against carlton then its time to be concerned. someone needs to waive a magic wand over gumbys hamstring...

Im hoping the team looks something like this:
B Rama Mal Fletcher
HB Nash Ryder Winderlich
C Dyson Watson Houli
HF Welsh McPhee Lovett-Murray
F Davey Lloyd Jetta
RUCK: Hille McVeigh Stanton
INT: Hislop, Laycock, Monfries, Lovett

It'll be interesting to see who plays on the half-back flank without Dempsey, im guessing Winders or Lovett. Houli and Dyson are also guys who can play both in the midfield and off the half-back line.
From the Geelong game, i took out Slatts (was horrible and doesn't do enough offensively), Lonergan (has been impressive but hasn't got into the game and fades out of games), JJ (time to put someone like Hislop or Hocking in there) and Dempsey (injured).

I like the idea of bringing Pears in and just playing him as a 3rd tall and learing from Mal and Fletch like Paddy did.

I think we should just leave Ryder at CHB, Pears as a 3rd tall and Mal and Fletch rotating between FB and up forward.

I wouldn't mind seeing us experimenting like that whilst Lucas is out.

Ideally whilst Lucas is out I think the best forward line structure that will win games will probably look something like this:

FF: Davey Lloyd Jetta
CHF: Welsh Hille NLM

I like the idea, but something that I think could work would be bring Pears in and play Ryder at CHF. It would give Ryder alot of a chance to impose himself on a game.

If Bellchambers comes in this week it could be Bellchambers v. Kruezer two players who in 5 years time could be the premier ruckmen of the competition. Bellchambers could be the next great ruckman to come out of the pre seaon or rookie drafts. I think he'll do a much better job than Laycock did today.

I was thinking of that, but Ryder just looks so good down back at the moment, why unsettle him by moving him around just to fill a position short term?

Ryder is the future of our backline and i'd rather keep him down there, learning and gaining more experience so he'll be 100% ready to take over the reigns when Mal and Fletch retire.

two changes max i say.. gotta give the boys time to learn the gameplan!

I agree. Learning a new game style will take some time as players have to adjust. This run and carry style is risky and we are going through an adjustment period. We came up against quality opposition today in Geelong. You don't want to further destroy the confidence of a young team by making lots of changes. I would like to see Knights be patient and wait and see how the Carlton games goes before dropping players based on form.

out: Dempsey (inj)
in: Lovett

Very well could be the next great ruckman to come from the PSD or rookie drafts but some how I doubt he'd do a better job than Laycock if he got the chance against the Blues on Saturday.

It sure would be nice seeing Bellchambers dominate over Kruezer though :D

Stanton wasn't terrible today, finished with 26 touches.
can you tell me who he played on??????? which one of the dominant geelong midfielders was his opponent?????

those of you who are saying that lonergan should be dropped need to have a look at the match replay. he played quite well i thought. tackled well, attacked the ball hard, didn't waste his possessions and was one of the few bombers who was often winning the 50/50 contests.

It sure would be nice seeing Bellchambers dominate over Kruezer though :D
kruezer won't spend too much, if any time in the ruck. they'll play him forward and if that isn't working that might throw him in the middle. paddy would be the perfect matchup for him in that case. kruezer is nothing special, mark my words.

I didn't think leroy gave us anything today and with lovett coming back into the side i'd like to see remo given a chance. i reckon he can play a similar role to leroy but with a bit more agression. Slattery and JJ were/are useless, whilst obviously DC will miss:(

so i'd be making the following changes:
IN: welsh, lovett, sloppy and remo
OUT: DC, JJ, slats and leroy

however if sloppy isn't match fit I'd be leaving leroy in

Round 3 Vs Carlton

Should be a great game. Essendon should get up due to the loss to Geelong they would want to bounce back and i think they will. btw why are Essendon supporters tipping Carlton over us:confused:. Bombers by 30+

Thoughts??

I'm just hoping the Bombers won't be shell-shocked after a loss like that. One thing that came out of todays loss at least is that we need to bring in at least one more hard insider who can win their fair share of the ball. Lovett should also come in to replace Dempsey. So I'd go something like:

Out: Dempsey, Slattery
In: Lovett, Hislop

Slattery out? i dont think that to be wise. I agree however Lovett must be in and whats monfries up to?

out: Dempsey, Slattery, NLM (he can't even kick with that finger), JJ

In: Lovett, Monfries, Welsh, Hislop

I am really disheartened after what i saw yesterday but hopefully bringing lovett, Welsh and monfries back into the side will give us a much needed injection of class and experience.
And Hislop will provide some much needed grunt around the ground.

No you have to keep Ryder at CHB. He was terrific today against an onslaught of attack. I would be getting games into Pears asap. You need to develop this kid alongside Fletcher and Michael whilst they are still around.

I would bring Pears in so you're three talls down back are Michael, Ryder and Pears and put Fletcher up forward. May give him a new life, especially while Lucas is out. Sounds like you are going to have to live with Laycock.

You also need more hardness in the middle. Its alright to have speed but you need to be able to win the ball in tight - you guys got smashed in the contested ball today. Welsh is another.

Good luck.

Ryder's talent and athleticism is wasted at CHB.

I was hoping Knights would've thrown him into the middle when we were getting pumped just to try out something new.

I truely think we need a bit more fire power. Geelong were great today, but with Lloyd well help i had no idea how we were going to score. Laycock could of taken a few marks inside 50 but didn't eally hold any. Lee didn't look to bad up forward yesterday in the reserves. Maybe include him and if not going well get fletcher to in the forward line as the Blues dont have a tall forward line. Also, the will keep waite accountable too

i dont think its a question of more fire power, just better fire power... we are a team who prides itself on accurate goalkicking. lloyd and lucas are the best shots on goal arguably in the league... what was it in the end? something like 6 goals 15 behinds and 4 out on the full kicks?
if we had have been at our normal level those 25 shots on goal would have equated to something like 15 10 and we would have only lost by 50 points to by far the best side in the comp...

including that i thought laycock was terrible in the forward line today, he had the first four or five opportunities at the start of the game alone (all of which were relatively easy marks) and he messed them up.. laycock could have kicked 4 or 5 goals today... i think we had our opportunities we just cracked under pressure and were probably too intimidated by the cats
