Inside Footy Mock Draft 2014 1.0

Lot's of shuffling of those phantom picks over the coming months. Post the carnival and the jostling of ladder positions will really dictate who goes where. It could really be a horses for courses scenario. In saying that whoever has the No/1 pick will have a difficult decision to make.

If WC end up in a position to select Brayshaw with their 1st round pick, as well as acquiring F/S Waterman with their 2nd pick, it would go a hell of a ways toward rebuilding their midfield in just one draft, given such quality.

Agree with that tesseract. It's early days but I like the early reports I've heard about Angus. Him and Waterman in 2014 plus Sheed from 2013 would be a big step forward the midfield.

As for the top 5 if the draft was held with current ladder rankings I'd have

Wright to Brisbane at 1 (Smokey McCartin)
Durdin to GWS at 2 (GWS should be all over him if available)
McCartin to Richmond at 3 (Wright if McCartin isn't there)
Goddard to St. Kilda at 4
Pickett/ Smith to Melbourne at 5

Given the tall talent available early realistically what are the chances of West Coast losing a second round selection for Alec Waterman?

Why would you have Pickett and Smith ahead of Bradshaw.

What I heard that Smith could be a Mid to late 1st Round Pick

Can't see us taking a wingman/flanker if a genuine mid like Brayshaw is available.

If the Dees finish bottom 4 - we have a lousy draw coming up I think we will go for a quality tall. With Clark retiring and Hogan injured a look at our list shows no very young developing KP's at Casey - Fitzy is a ruck forward and been around a few years. In our quest for mids/flankers we have overloaded on them in the hope a few come good.

You can always move Watts to full forward ;)

What I can see happening though is Melbourne trading their pick to GWS for another Dom Tyson/Kelly type of deal (and I thought it was a good one).

hope the swans do some trading to get another 1st round pick! with so many talls with talent they'll be keeping their options handy

we have no one worth a first rounder that we would trade. We should be happy we get heeney, hopefully no one bids a first rounder on him, then we can go tall, but that is unlikely. If no one else, I expect GWS to bid first round.

Hypothetically if 10+ players from Essendon are suspended for 24 months by ASADA, what is the most likely outcome from the AFL as compensation with regards to draft picks.

I would think something like 5 picks at the end of the first round of which 4 must be traded to other clubs for mature aged players and another 5 at the end of the 2nd and 3 of them that must be traded for mature aged players. We and the AFL need Essendon to be competitive but also wouldn't want them stockpiling young talent so hence enforcing that they have to use those picks to trade, which is really what should have happened to GWS and GC which would have made them more competitive early and wouldn't have set up the inevitable situation that is going to occur over the next decade where they completely dominate.

Good luck with that. As if you guys don't have enough falling straight into your laps and the AFL helping to ensure you stay around the top of the ladder year after year, but now you're hoping that no-one bids a first rounder on someone that some are saying is the "best midfielder" in the draft? o_O

we can dream. I was being ironic.

I would be very ****ing happy if we finished out of the bottom 4.

A fast midfielder who can kick and perform under pressure please.

If (and that's a big if at this stage) it does happen we don't need them to be competitive, losing their license should be the result of having 10+ players suspended for 24 months.
