There have been HUGE reports coming out of the dons that thye are going to use there number 1 pick of the best ruckman in the draft. So really that would open up Gibbs for us. But do we really want him?? There is no douting that he is the one of the best players in the draft. But i think that our mid is the best thing we have going for us, in terms of youth. And with murphy to be back stronger, better next yr and with ppl like Kade, and lukey finding there feet and playing decent football i think we should let him slip. There is no doubt in my mind that i would take Hansen, by all reports he is the best defender in the draft, and we REALLY need some young guns down back. I think with getting murph and Josh last yr i would love it if we got a 'young gun' spine and got Hansen

Hansen
Waite
Murphy
Kennedy
Fev

now thats a spine that the carlton faithful can get pumped about. :thumbsu:

Also in letting gibbs slip a pick to possible 3rd, that would push the draft back a few picks and get another quality player with out secong pick. maybe even a jetta?

The Bombers already have Hille, and picked up Pat Ryder last year. They're done with top-pick ruckmen for now, so those reports are HUGEly wrong.

If Gibbs is availible at No2 we would be mad not to take him. He would be the vital piece to our mid field as he develops further. The great strength of Gibbs is he is reasonably tall for a Mid and he can also go forward and kick goals. With the depth of this years draft we will still get a quality defender in the 2nd round if required.
Alot can happen over the next few months, who's to say that both Bower and Hartlet come into the side in a few weeks and really show promise. Coupled with the development of Carlos, Edwards and Russell, plus the likley improvement of Bannister and Thornton.
The best way forward is to draft the best player possible at that particular time.

Hille, Lackcock, Cartledge, Ryder .... yep I can see them leaving KP's and Gibbs for another ruckman.

hehe, your right. They WONT take another ruckman. If anything they will be trying to cut down their ruck supply.

This is rubbish............as mentioned several times already, Essenscum already have plenty of young Ruck talent and will not overlook some of the KPP or midfield talent for another Ruckman.

This could be quite true, Cartledge is playing for his career atm and may not be on our list come '07

Bradley can also pinch-ruck when needed

There is no way we will use the 1st pick on a ruckman, providing it's ours of course ;)

Even assuming this happened it wouldn't push the draft back any picks at all. Only the first few picks would change order as Gumbleton, Hansen and Gibbs traded spots. The rest would continue on thereabouts from pick 4.

Agreeing with all the above, plus Waite would never play CHB. He's knocked the offer down at least once, and would be an absolute waste down back.

Instead something along the lines of having Lance, Hansen and Thornton as our talls in the back, with Fev, Kennedy, Waite and Fisher in the forward line sounds about right. :)

we need a ruckmen
we need a CHB
we need more onballers
we could even do with another small/mid size FWD

IMO we really need more class midfielders, so rather than teams just tagging stevens, they need to think about tagging, stevens, murphy and gibbs.

if your onballers don't win posession of the ball in the middle and around the contests, it dosn't matter who you have down back or even up FWD, you are not going to win many games.

last couple of years we drafted for backs- hartlett, bower to a lesser extent flint

we are also likely to lose kouta and lappin doesn't have too many years left in him, where as most ouf our FWD's and BACK's are reasonabally young.

midfielder is the way to go for our 1st pick.

Nah, take the best available.

If Gibbs goes at #1 were not gonna overlook Gumbleton, Hansen, Thorpe to pick up Selwood.

Essendon - Gibbs
Carlton - Hansen
Kangas - Gumby
Hawthorn - Thorpe

:) Agree wholeheartedly. There is a simple rule when drafting players take the best player available.

You are right when you say we have Hartlett, Bower and Carlos to build up the backline over the next couple of years.

Anyway, given the state of Essendon's midfield (or lack of it) now, there is no doubt in my mind that they will take Gibbs if he is available. Our job then is to take the best available player for us. Hansen would be great, paricularly as he is a Victorian and we will not have the problem of him wanting to go home.:thumbsu:

Essendon will without doubt take Gibbs. Which is a shame as I want him at Carlton bad.

I'm so desperate to get Gibbs, I would be happy to trade picks 2 and 17 for Essendon's pick 1. Not just happy. I'd be over the moon!

Imagine Murphy and Gibbs in the same midfield.

I cant believe our luck.It comes our turn to have crack at the first choices in the draft and they first penalise us,then change the rules of the priority picks.Just like St.Kilda got Riewoldt and Kosi in the same draft we should be welcoming something like Gibbs and Hansen at the same time.Stinks doesnt it.

Imagine Kennedy, Fevola, Waite, Fisher, Edwards, Bower, Hartlett and Hansen/Gumbleton in the same team monstering the opposition's backs and forwards in 3-5 years time. ;) :thumbsu:

The hype surrounding Gibbs is just over the top! :thumbsd:

And saying you'll trade picks our first 2 picks (it would be picks 2 and 18 ;) ) for pick one is silly. Mojo still rates Gumbleton, Hansen and Gibbs as equal number 1 and we'd be the loser in that comical deal. :)

I'll be rapt with Gumbleton or Hansen if Gibbs is gone and even happier if we get two quick mids out of O'Brien, Connors, Collard, Proud, etc. with our second pick and the PP.

Even happier if we score another top 25 pick or two for Lance. ;)

If that was the case, which I HIGHLY doubt, I would take Gibbs in a heart beat. He is just what we need to complement the other young promising midfielders that we have coming through.

But, as I said, this scenario is highly doubtful. Essendon will not take a ruckman, they will take Gibbs. Our pick 2 will be Lachlan Hansen. If we do, however, finish below Essendon and get the number 1 pick, Gibbs will be on his way to the Blues.

Got to see a fair bit of both boys during the recent Under 18's carnival... Gibbs is an absolute special, no doubt, but rest assured BlueBaggers, you will not be unhappy with Lachlan Hansen if you end up with pick 2. (Assuming it goes that way)He is an excellent player. :thumbsu:

Yeah just another kick in the guts to us while we are down. Wouldnt have changed if the saints where still down.

The chances of Gibbs going home sound reasonable. Could be a risky draft.

And we need midfielders definitely.

Essondon are going to take a ruckman with their first draft pick...........Eddie barracks for the Tigers.
