Carey Goddard and co pumped us up big time o n their podcast.

That was surprisingly interesting. Listening to Dixon and Goddard explain how other teams approach Nic was hilarious.

And in a way confirmed what I've always thought, that opposition clubs don't want to pump up Nic too much publically, it would demoralise their own rucks, but they sure as hell are paying him attention.

For anyone who can't be assed, they were basically saying that opposition clubs won't even bother trying to shark his taps. Instead, they try to limit the damage by blocking space and making it more likely the Eagles' midfielder/Nic Nat exits the stoppage at a less dangerous point. And then try to play their game when Naitanui goes to the bench.

There's dominance and then there's the Faustian-bargain-created opposition nightmare that is Nic Nat.

Phwoar, I'm beginning to work myself into a lather. Both rock hard and somehow wet at the same time.

That is the power of Nicholas Naitanui.

Dean Alston being very insightful in today’s West.

A good summary from a Dockers supporter, it's time to move on

Man it reads like he is still sore. We were not allowed to cheer for Gaff in the previous derby for sensitivity reasons? What?

I mean I didn't hate Hall or Vickery that much for their hits.

Tom Percy is a laugh though. Gaff should never been forgotten but the rapists and murderers he has defended should be given a second chance.

Eh, it was a fairly filthy hit, and I'm sure if it happened the other way around we'd be booing for years. The two people involved in the punch have moved on fairly nicely but if the dockers fans want a pantomime villain then I don't really see the problem with that, it's little narratives like this that make sport fun.

Freo fans are perfectly within their rights to boo Gaff for the rest of his career. I would be. Just another little thing that adds some spice to the game.

5 years of gaff means 10 derbies at 35 disposals a game = 350 boos

Brb buying shares in soothers

Freo fans can boo Gaff for the rest of his career. It was a pretty shit act. Just like how we booed Barry Hall for the rest of his career too.

However, you'd be hard pressed to find any media saying Sydney fans cheering Hall should be ashamed of themselves.

They'd have to find a Sydney fan familiar enough with their own team for that to happen.

Tom Percy would have to be one of the biggest flogs going around. I still remember when he hadn’t a little tanty on 6PR and refused to come on anymore because he didn’t like his intro music. He’s a great fit for a Freo supporter

From the perspective of someone who practices in the legal profession, Percy is honestly having a laugh. You consent to a level of violence when you agree to play contact sport, which is generally a defence against police intervention. Granted you can't consent to be punched in the face off the ball, but the police almost always defer to the adjudicating body in professional sport.

If West Coast and Andrew Gaff planned to seriously hurt Brayshaw and then did so, there possibly could have been charges, but reckless behaviour causing injury in professional contact sport almost never allows for legal action be it in tort or criminal law.

He's a very good barrister, but Christ is he waving his scarf.

But booing, why not? It was quite fun cheering after the Freo fans booed. Good banter.

Yeah but Percy, a QC remember, an apparently learned man, went right off the reservation with this;

In the lead-up, Percy was at it again, posting on Facebook, “Andrew Gaff won’t be booed tonight. Booing is a fairly tame expression of disappointment and annoyance. The noise he will hear will be an expression of revulsion, for the contempt into which he brought the game last year. For the act which transcended common human decency and sportsmanship at every level. And for which he should forever be remembered in ignominy. There has probably never been a player in respect of whom it would be more appropriate to maintain the rage.”

Get a grip twit.

They've got to entertain themselves somehow. Boo gaff 35 times, umpires 70 times (our 28 odd frees plus the 40-50 they feel they deserve, half of which are walters flopping around). In contrast only get to cheer twice. (3 times if you count the team running on to the ground). In 2 hours of game time. Twice.

It's paywalled though and I'm sure as shit not going to pay a sub for unless the The West drastically improves it's journalism. It's a shame because I usually really like Duffield, and think he's one of the better AFL journos in the country.
