Buti's call: Andrew Gaff is no thug, and it's time to move on
On Saturday night, the Dockers’ supporters made their feelings known, and booed Gaff each time he gathered the ball.www.theage.com.au
A good summary from a Dockers supporter, it's time to move on
Freo fans are perfectly within their rights to boo Gaff for the rest of his career. I would be. Just another little thing that adds some spice to the game.
Freo fans can boo Gaff for the rest of his career. It was a pretty s**t act. Just like how we booed Barry Hall for the rest of his career too.
However, you'd be hard pressed to find any media saying Sydney fans cheering Hall should be ashamed of themselves.
Tom Percy would have to be one of the biggest flogs going around. I still remember when he hadn’t a little tanty on 6PR and refused to come on anymore because he didn’t like his intro music. He’s a great fit for a Freo supporter

In the lead-up, Percy was at it again, posting on Facebook, “Andrew Gaff won’t be booed tonight. Booing is a fairly tame expression of disappointment and annoyance. The noise he will hear will be an expression of revulsion, for the contempt into which he brought the game last year. For the act which transcended common human decency and sportsmanship at every level. And for which he should forever be remembered in ignominy. There has probably never been a player in respect of whom it would be more appropriate to maintain the rage.”
No different from any other downtrodden, rabid, unhinged, hypocritical jetty-licker, it would seem.Yeah but Percy, a QC remember, an apparently learned man, went right off the reservation with this;
Get a grip twit.
Tom Percy QC is effectively putting the Gaff punch in the same league as ethnic cleansing, hate speech and chewing with your mouth open.
They've got to entertain themselves somehow. Boo gaff 35 times, umpires 70 times (our 28 odd frees plus the 40-50 they feel they deserve, half of which are walters flopping around). In contrast only get to cheer twice. (3 times if you count the team running on to the ground). In 2 hours of game time. Twice.From the perspective of someone who practices in the legal profession, Percy is honestly having a laugh. You consent to a level of violence when you agree to play contact sport, which is generally a defence against police intervention. Granted you can't consent to be punched in the face off the ball, but the police almost always differ to the adjudicating body in professional sport.
If West Coast and Andrew Gaff planned to seriously hurt Brayshaw and then did so, there possibly could have been charges, but reckless behaviour causing injury in professional contact sport almost never allows for legal action be it in tort or criminal law.
He's a very good barrister, but Christ is he waving his scarf.
But booing, why not? It was quite fun cheering after the Freo fans booed. Good banter.
