Interesting read. I think Nisbett has done an outstanding job at the Eagles and what he says is true: why would they consider changing their current model for electing directors when the club is the most successful football organisation in the land?

However, I do find his insistence that there is no conflict of interest in having a seat on the board of directors and being ceo somewhat disingenuous. Strange that Buti didn’t pursue Nisbett’s reasoning on that.

Being a managing director is not that uncommon.

It would be a conflict if he decided on his own remuneration and bonus, but one would assume he abstains from that.

Ryan's numbers are off the charts.

Champion Data reveals the players from the top-eight teams whose form has surged in the lead-up to finals

WEST COAST EAGLES
Small forward Liam Ryan is the flyer leading into finals for the Eagles.

Ryan’s player ranking points have rocketed from 64.2 between Rounds 1-13 to 105 in his last five matches — a jump of 63 per cent.

He has kicked 11 goals since Round 14, nearing half his season tally of 25.

“His numbers over the last five weeks have been absolutely sensational. He’s elite in almost every category,” Fox Footy commentator Garry Lyon said of Ryan last week.

“If he’s getting around 15 possessions each game you know the West Coast Eagles will be in it up to their eyeballs.”

Defenders Liam Duggan and Tom Barrass have also produced a rankings points rise late in the season to set them up for finals.

Duggan is up 39 per cent to 103.5 in his last five games, while Barrass is up 22 per cent.

Not a bad effort. As always though lack of thought given to benefits home ground advantage with local teams, for example Port v Crows at AO this year - clear benefit to Port because Crows were rubbish. Same with Eagles v Dockers, advantage to Eagles.

You can't tell me Pies/Tigers v Melb/Carl/Haw/ etc is not of advantage to the Pies/Tigers.

The current system provides a level of advantage for challenging MCG tenants, even more so with the rigged draw based on earning potential.

Just on TK.

Brayden Quartermaine has compared TK 2019 version with TK 2020 version.

All said and done seems like TK has gone ‘ok’ in 2020.

Eddie, caught out again, (paraphrasing), “play WC, Freo and maybe Port on the way home and get ALL the away games done in one hit.”

Confirms Pies only get three away games/season from Melbourne.

🤪🤪

Haha, good catch.

Seriously though, I have been banging this drum for us since the start of this season. We should request to play 3 Victorian games in 2 weeks next season (Sunday - Saturday - Friday) for the same travel impact as one week. Make the middle weekend Tasmania if they are going to persist with that.

Get the feedback from the players

If they prefer in and out in 48 hours - then go with that

If they are happy with a 2/3/4 week hub - that's what we should push for

Personally - i'd prefer the 3/4 week hub - especially if it was early/mid season

I hear you, but I think the club should also have a view on the impact on players (and their peak performance) across their whole career, rather than what suits this playing group this season.

Of course, player welfare comes first, but I would like the club to take a holistic view to extend players careers, during their prime. It's damning that WC does not have a 300 game player and Freo has only one, whereas there are dozens across the same period from the other clubs.

Melbourne Demons have one 300 game player and they've been around 124 seasons now, that's not always the best guide.

Fremantle are punching above their weight / been lucky to get 2 in 25 years

True, but Melbourne and Freo have been pretty poor during the AFL era. Both have had some highs, but mostly middles or lows. WC are top two or three on any ranking of consistent success (premierships, finals played, games won, years qualified for finals) in that era. That would indicate our players are - generally - very, very good. Very, very good players tend to have longer careers.

Hawthorn and Geelong are our only peers when it comes to sustained competitiveness during the AFL era. It would be interesting to compare how many 300 game players there are across the three clubs. I have no idea how to do this other than to tweet sirswampthing, which I will do right now.
