Richmond not last despite 100k members and three flags in four years. Collingwood and Carlton 2-3 million more than lowest. St Kilda getting more than GWS (!!!).

The rider text at the bottom indicates that prize money is included in the figures - winning the flag is worth $1.2 million these days (about half that for the losing grand finalist too), and it also includes "licensing distributions" as the AFL itself technically owns the clubs logos/names/etc so they collect all the associated money then hand it out again. Makes sense the bigger clubs would always get a bigger share of that (they sell more merch, thus get a bigger share).

So we got the 2nd least, behind the Hawks. According to the fine print these were included:

AFLW (we have a team, hawks don't)
Prize money (assuming that we received something for making finals)
Travel Subsidies (we travel the most, or close to it)

The hawks distribution from memory is also partially affected by their tasmanian games with the AFL also guaranteeing them the ability to sell full victorian based memberships as well.

Good to see JJ get some credit in The Tackle.
He also wasn't bad in round 2 Robbo with 3 goals.

3. THE JONES BOY

It was a demolition from the Eagles and just maybe they might have found another small forward in Jamaine Jones.

He’s a slow burn, Jones. He played seven games for Geelong in 2018, was delisted at the end of 2019, was picked up by the Eagles in the pre-season of 2020 and on Sunday played his eighth straight game this season.

The first six were ordinary but Adam Simpson persisted and Jones’s past two have produced 21 and two goals and on Sunday 14 and a goal.

He’s a watch as the Eagles try to balance their tall forward line with smalls

Not a lot of love on The Monday Means Test by Whateley.
He has us and Sydney as holds for making the 8.

Kingy came to our rescue though.
Said Clarkson was trying to get a nil all draw in the first quarter.

He reckons both NN and Kennedy are carrying injuries.

Said it was a huge win on the road with all of our injuries.

Said if we can win a few more before we get the troops back, we can challenge for top 4.

We're hard to get a read on to be fair.

We've played 3 of the top 4 (1-2) and also 2 of the bottom 3 (2-0 thankfully!). Along with some middle-of-the-road teams.

Take the Geelong loss out and we have been pretty good (even during parts of the saints loss), but fair enough the media (and especially Geelong supporters) doubting our credentials at this stage.

If we can get a win this week, other games are to our advantage (with Dogs v Port and Giants v Tigers). Short of a draw, 2 teams in our region of the ladder will drop 4 points this week (could add Geelong v STK to the list also).

I'd say it is in regard to this:

Both SA clubs memberships decreased by 10% last year, and had statutory losses of $4M and $2.8M.

The Power and the Crows now find themselves indebted to the tune of $12M and $4.5M respectively, yet see AFL handout money making clubs like North Melbourne and the Bulldogs "profitable". Their anger is entirely understandable.

Comparatively, the WA clubs are powerhouses - Fremantle maintained its membership and a $1M loss is cushioned by over $4M in cash reserves.

West Coast increased membership by 11% (to over 100K, the highest in the competition), and still managed a $245K profit despite the men's team receiving the lowest amount of funding from the AFL ($9.8M). The club also still has a cash reserve in excess of $32M.

Looking back at this in light of Eddie's rant re; the PA prison bar guernsey and you realise Eddie is off his rocker.

Collingwood gets 2m more than PA yet he stated PA get 7m more...

That rant Eddie gurgled out on the weekend was genuinely batshit. The fact that a club leader is able to leverage his (heavily conflicted) role as a presenter on (one of) the AFL's official broadcaster, to try and goad the league he's a representative of in two different ways, into supporting his own personal agenda against another club in the same f*cking league, is laughably shit. He effectively used league dollars, and league airtime, to stop showcasing the game and start carrying out avant garde personal vendettas. Not that his commentary is a showcase of the game, ever.

His existence in the football ecosystem shines a light on just how amateurish the AFL's administrators are. They've fallen arse-backwards onto a rainbow in that a) Cricket isn't what it was in Australia 20 years ago, b) League is a perpetual shuttle crash, c) soccer hasn't been able to make the most of it's early 2000s WC run, yet they still can't find it within themselves to make the most of the opportunity.

The proof was in the pudding with the budget cuts last year. Even squirrels know to gather acorns ahead of winter. Gill and his cronies don't seem to.

AFL 2021: Michael Long calls on the Eagles and AFL to back wayward forward Willie Rioli after drug bust

AFL great Michael Long has pleaded with West Coast and the league to give Willie Rioli another chance to reclaim his career.
Rioli was caught with marijuana in his pants when he tried to board a flight from Darwin to the Tiwi Islands and on Wednesday avoided a conviction after pleading guilty at Darwin Magistrates Court to drug possession.
He was put on a 12-month $500 good behaviour bond.
The Eagles are reportedly weighing up whether to hand Rioli a club-imposed punishment, or even cut him from the list.
Long is Rioli’s uncle and spoke to the 25-year-old forward on Wednesday night.
He said Rioli needed a “hand up and not a hand out’’.
“He’s made mistakes and if he comes through the other end that’s a really important strong message,’’ Long said.
“As a young man he knows he has to change his life for his own sake, for his own kids, for his own community.’’

The Herald Sun revealed on Thursday Rioli was prepared to submit to regular drug tests to prove he could break the cycle of cannabis use.
“He’s a good kid Willie,’’ Long said. “I know his career and obviously I know what it’s taken to get that level. He’s gone through a lot.
“Even though he’s my nephew, you don’t want to see it end this way.
“If anything, I plead with the AFL and the Eagles.
“He’s been through enough humiliation with this.
“He’s so regretful. He’s let a lot of people down, supporters, the club, his teammates most importantly.
“I just don’t want to see him walk away from the game like this.
“I’m just asking for another second chance.
“The better way of handling this is for him to turn it around and prove to himself and others that he can do it.
“He needs a hand up and not a hand out.
“And Willie can show that by his actions on and off the footy field.”
Long said despite the recent events in Rioli’s career, which included the two-year ASADA ban for tampering with a urine sample, he was a hero for kids on the island.

“They love him, just his nature and character,’’ Long said.
“He comes from the Vigona side of the family and obviously a Rioli … he’s got that beautiful nature about him.
“He’s always got time for people. He’s pretty humble and I think football can give him a platform to turn what’s happened into a positive.
“He knows what he’s done. He so regretful.’’
In the months leading up to the airport arrest, Rioli had been training on the island and with St Mary’s in Darwin.
Former St Kilda and Fremantle coach Ross Lyon Lyon said Rioli had to get “back to being the best version of himself”.
He said the Eagles “100 per cent, a million per cent’’ should give Rioli anther chance.

AFL commentator Kane Cornes slams Richmond CEO Brendon Gale’s Marvel Stadium complaint

AFL commentator Kane Cornes has slammed Richmond for “sooking it up” over the club’s Marvel Stadium fixture and called on the reigning premiers to speak to West Coast before they complain.
The Tigers are scheduled to play GWS in Melbourne on Saturday night, but it won’t be at their MCG home ground.
Speaking on SEN, Cornes didn’t hold back after Tigers CEO Brendon Gale’s MCG complaint, labelling their argument “ridiculous” and “comical”.
“They had the audacity via their CEO Brendon Gale to complain that this game isn’t at the MCG,” he said.
“They have had already this year six games at the MCG – six out of eight.

“It’s ridiculous that Richmond of all clubs could even think about complaining.
“Go and tell West Coast who travel four hours every second week and get them to tell you about their fixture.
“Put Richmond in their shoes and see how they go. It’s an absolute joke.”

Gale went public this week with his frustrations over having to play at Marvel Stadium.
“To have the MCG — one of the world’s great sporting stadiums — empty this weekend just makes no sense. We should be playing at the MCG,” he said.
“Playing at Marvel this weekend will minimise crowds and that goes against everything the industry wants to deliver. We want fans at games.”

But Cornes said Gale’s argument of maximising crowds by using the bigger MCG was laughable.
“When he says crowds, it’s not maximising crowds,” Cornes argued.
“Friday night against Geelong, this is the grand final rematch, you know how were there at the MCG? Fifty-four thousand.
“You reckon they’re going to get more than 50 (thousand) against GWS on Saturday night if they could only get 54 (thousand) on Friday night against the team they played in the grand final?
“It’s not about maximising crowds, it’s about the sooking it up.”

Aside from the 2020 season where all Victorian clubs were forced to relocate to Queensland due to the COVID pandemic, Richmond has enjoyed one of the best home game run of any AFL club in recent seasons.
The Tigers played 13 games at the MCG in 2019 before finals, including the last seven games of the regular season at home.
In 2018, they played 14 games at the MCG — including four of the last five home and away fixtures.
“They dominate the fixture, they get the best fixture in the history of the AFL,” Cornes said.
“The moment they don’t get what they want, they go and have a big sook to the AFL.”
Only Collingwood played more matches at the MCG in 2018 and 2019.

Love Cornes for this. Said the same in 2019 to Caro when they got the run of 7 at home leading into finals. Said they had a massive leg up and predictably, she had no refute other than "I don't think so".

I don't mind Caro TBH.

Cornes also said to her "People don't realise how hard it is for interstate teams to win GF's"
and she replied with "It didn't hurt Brisbane"".
Unbelievable.

Yeah, o think Caro's fine but she was trying to defend the indefensible. At least she didn't put up too much of a fight

Cornes is the shockjock equivalent of the football media. Occasionally he'll hit the target but generally it's a steady stream of bullshit that dribbles out of his mouth.

Caro refusing to acknowledge Richmond's ridiculous advantage through the draw isn't hugely surprising, she's a massive Richmond fan after all.
