Its not often you say a $1.50 shot is value - but that is just what Smoken Up is. I had him at at $1.30 - he is money for jam and I will be taking it.
Washakie is wayyyy to short. I had him at $9 and will lay him all day. I had Cincinatti kid about $21 - lay him all day and all night! Atomic Ark is about right at $13 but still to short to touch might be a half decent place bet! Mystical Warrior might also be a 1/10th decent place bet, had him at $31 5th pick.

Not much you can do with the 2nd heat - Bondy about right, Tanabi about right, Sammy a bit too short. But once again - Changeover is a big lay. I dont see what people see in him, last weeks run wasnt up to scratch.

Monkey King too short to touch but that wont stop him winning easily. Awesome Armbro about right, tad to short. Western Cam and I Am Sam about right but Karloo Mick is big unders. Lay him.

Baileys Dream is a bit to short- Blacky about right. Mr Feelgood as big unders - lay him big time. Pembrook Benny is the bet of the night. $6 on Betfair.

At this stage for the final if you were to have a bet on Fixed Odds. Blacks A Fake @ $7.50. Tanabi Bromac @ $26 and Pembrook Benny @ $51.

Best of luck to everybody!

I was at the heats on Friday. Was interesting to see the new sulkies that Monkey King and Baileys Dream race in. They are far more rigid than the Australian sulkies and a lot heavier.

The comments coming out of the Baileys Dream camp was that he was far more suited to being out three wide the trip on the tight Harold Park track than in between runners. He will also improve heaps on that run.

The first heat this week should be very interesting. Atomic Ark flew out from 4 last week and Smoken Up will have to be very quick to hold him out. If he does hold him out I think Atomic Ark will be able to drop in behind Smoken Up and there is your quinella. Washakie is a very honest horse and should finish 3rd.

The second heat looks Bondy’s race once again. This horse has been blessed with good barriers since coming across from New Zealand. He should lead and win here. I thought his heat was the strongest out of the heats last week and the winner of the final will come out of that heat. I hope that Changeover can improve on his last run just to make the race interesting. Tanabi Bromac went well last week coming from way back on the corner to run into 3rd place in a very slow race.

The third heat on paper looks Monkey King’s race but it wouldn’t surprise me at all to see Karloo Mick push forward and even take the lead off Monkey King. Monkey King had it all his own way last week, he had Cincinnati Kid sit a known sit sprinter sit on its outside last week and put no pressure on him at all. The mile rate was 3 seconds slower than all the other heats. Don’t expect things to go his own way this week.

The final heat looks a match race between Baileys Dream and Blacks A Fake. Both horses should run very well. I think Baileys Dream can lead here and be awfully hard to run down. Blacks A Fake was very impressive in his heat and he seems to be travelling a lot better then he was in November and December.

Smoken Up will lead and win. Washakie just simply better than the rest of them and racing well so should finish 2nd.

1. Smoken Up
2. Washakie
3. Cincinnati Kid

Bondy will lead and hard to see anything beating him really. Not a huge fan of Sammy (and Gavin gave him a great run last week) and thought Changeover was pretty disappointing last week. Tanabi the biggest danger, hit the line strongly last week but they did go slowly - chance with the right run.

1. Bondy
2. Tanabi Bromac
3. Changeover

Just can't see Monkey King being beaten. We hadn't seen him show a lot of gate-speed before but he led comfortably last week. Drawn well again, should win from wherever he ends up. Karloo Mick doesn't seem to be going anywhere near as well as he was - little disappointing last week. Wouldn't be surprised to see Butcher hold the front on Our Awesome Armbro.

1. Monkey King
2. Our Awesome Armbro
3. I Am Sam

Fourth heat is the most interesting. Blackie's going to have to work for it this week but doesn't need to win, so can't see Natalie Rasmussen giving him a gut-buster. Don't know much about Baileys Dream's gate-speed but Butt reckons he'll find the top on Mr Feelgood. Thought his run last week was very good and if he leads, I think he'll win.

1. Mr Feelgood
2. Baileys Dream
3. Blacks A Fake

L Justice = huge fail (you'd think he'd have worked out how to drive his own horse by now). Fined $400 for the ridiculous pace he set in the first half. Since when has SU been a sit sprinter? The blokes a tool.
Should have sacked himself 4 starts ago. No doubt there will be some excuse (track too small, planets not in alignment etc etc). Unfortunatley, his ego is greater than his horses ability. Fortunatley, in the final, he will drive SU with the handlebars down. Cue Monkey King!

Thanks for your input DM!

Interesting field for the final, its basically NZ V QLD.
Monkey King, Bondy, Baileys Dream, Awesome Armbro, Mr Feelgood, Changeover Versus Blacks A Fake, Washakie and Atomic Ark.
Also Vic have Smoken Up. This reminds me, who does NSW (this supposed super state) have qualified for the final? Do they even have a consolation qualifier?

Queensland certainly does though! QLD vs NZ woohoo!! Like it's been most of this decade!! That's the reason why i love the racing up there.

I'd like to give a special thanks to Bill Dixon and John Mcarthy as i realise now these two are master trainers who know how to prime there horses when it really counts.

It would be very interesting if either trainer had Be Dilligent or Tip Your hat as i think those two are good enough for this field.

Anyway great series!! Come on Washakie for the final!!
