There are plenty 100+ game 'good honest players' in the game mate. You're right, they won't ever be stars, but they can still be average players and have a decent career.
And that's been our problem as a club over the past 12 years.

Ever since Aryes was coach, and then Craig we have had way too many of theses 'battlers' in our side who never amount to anything.

Both players can play AFL football and will help GWS, Melbourne and other bottom clubs but as long as se continue to play them, we will never take that next step.

At best, they are just ordinary players.

Delist

Tambling, Joyce, Johncock, Callinan and Graham

Possible trade options

Jaensch, Wright, Martin, Smack, Otten, D-Mac and Porpy
Don't hate this.

I think they'll keep Joyce (just to compound how bad a selection it was) and Porps won't be traded. He'll stay on the list another year them retire.

Otten won't be traded - Jaensch, Martin, SMac all seem likely for discussion.

Just putting it out there but Nick Joyce isn't a bad player. He isn't delist material just yet.

His first half of the season hasn't been at the same level as Mitchell Grigg but don't write him off just yet.

With another preseason under his belt, we will gain a greater understanding if where is AFL dream stands. I'm thinking his second half of the SANFL season will be much better. His game yesterday was improving. Give him time.

I stated prior to round 1 that Otto is very much a trade option and my "good mail" is that this is still very much an option

There are still concerns at the AFC re Otto's mobility, lack of tackling pressurevand his ability to stay in a contest and regardless of Otto's form yesterday's game would have again put the spot light on Otto's defensive flaws

Sando and Milburn also rate a fit Shaw in front of Otto and Sando wants to use the trade period to find another defender and push us up the draft order to scheme this you have to trade players that may be rated more highly outside of the club then they are within

Dont get me wrong Otto has played his role this year however he is not safe as houses

Yeah but there must be literally dozens of players the same age that look far superior footballers.

We need some speed. Defensive, midfield or forward line speed. That's one deficiency we need to rectify almost immediately to improve next year.

Don't hate the idea of trading Andy Otten as we have Sam Shaw, Tom Lynch, Luke Thompson, or even Lewis Johnson to replace that position. Then if we upgrade Kyle Hartigan, we have another option.

Otten is expendable.

So a trade that will gain us a starting 22 small forward with lightning quick speed would be a good get. Leroy Jetta maybe, but we need to trade in some speedy players.

Due to us only being able to participate from round 3 onwards in this years draft I think the crows will definitely only make minimal changes.

Aiden Riley, Luke Thompson, Ian Callinan and Richard Tambling will go, I think Johncock if rumours are correct will look at Free Agency. Wouldn't surprise me if he just retires. Tambling if he doesn't get another look in most likely will retire and move back to Melbourne on his own accord IMO.

I am a true believer that Adelaide does not have anyone worthy of a trade (that's not getting games now) for a ready made star player. Free Agency is our only hope to increase our stocks. We may be able to convince Johncock and Tambling to go to GWS or Gold Coast and we may be able to snare some good defensive talent in exchange.

You said it yourself, we are not in the draft until round 3, therefore A Riley is safe.

Tambling won't move back to Melbourne as he didn't like the lifestyle. He will stay in SA or the NT and work in an Indigenous not for profit organisation or a government - sport and Rec.

If Stiffy or Tambling use free agency, we won't gain any compensation. Chris knight was fair superior and we didn't gain any compensation. Won't get anything out of that.

I cant see Porps getting the chop. It would really be embarrising to the fools who upgraded Callanan last year so to keep face they will keep him for another year. Same goes for Joyce.
No but i can definitely see him being traded.
Grigg will definitely be retained based on his improvement this year
Callinan, Stiffy, Martin, Tambling & Joyce all gone .......Stiffy will either retire of move under Free Agency, Joyce simply hasn't improved enough and may be asked to go back on rookie list IMO

Callinan's age will catch-up with him

Laird definite upgrade ......still not sure Hartigan has done anywhere near enough yet to warrant upgrade

Yep, I think we may see Ben Dowdell upgraded and replace Angus Graham on the senior list next year.

He seems to be coming along nicely.

We may have 3 rookie player upgrades next year.
Not a hope Alex ....Graham has a contract
Dowdell still tap ruckmen only and still can't get consistent games a South

For me the ray of light is Osbourne if he can get some games in thee 2nd half of the season

Nutta. Stiffy and Bling. If we upgrade Laird. Graham still has a years contract I think and unless we trade/fa a better option he is around for another year. Smack is another in case of emergency break glass player and seems safe if we don't trade in a better option.

We need a specialist small forward unless we free agent or trade for one Pup looks to still have a place in the team while we develope one if we go the draft route.

Unless we trade players Martin/Jaensch/Wright/Henderson/etc for picks then I can't see us making more than the minimum amount of delistings this off-season. No high draft picks, remember?

Tambling, Stiffy and Callinan will be the necessary 3 changes (2 picks and a Laird upgrade) although I do hope we get a little more ruthless. I think Trigg's incompetence will save the career of Joyce for at least another season.

Jaensch, Wright, Martin, Smack, Otten, D-Mac and Porpy
i would put porpoise in the delist catergory. i cant see any team want to trade for him.
and i would keep smack and otten.

i like jaensch, wright and martin, but can see them being traded to try and land some earlier picks. which in itself, is really just a gamble anyway.

i would keep dmac as we just gave him a 3 year contract, correct?

while i would like to keep otten, i like this post. the only problem i see with trading otten (or any other defender) is that sando wants another defender via the draft/trade/FA period. i cant see us getting a quality defender by trading otten... and we have no picks to 'sweeten the deal'. if we trade otten, we'll just get another otten in return.

so i think we should keep him.

I think our list management became a bit of a panic when the powers that be pulled the rug out from under them on the eve of the national draft.
I disagree.. but only because most of our players were already signed for 2013 by the time the Tiprat thing exploded in our faces, to the extent that they had to delist a contracted player (Joyce) in order to meet the minimum 3 vacancies when the AFL forced us to keep Tiprat on our list beyond the list lodgement date for ND participation.
