The Boston Patriots moved to Foxborough and wanted to be named the Bay State Patriots, but the NFL rejected that name because it wouldve been abbreviated as BS Patriots.
The Seattle Seahawks almost moved to Anaheim in the 90s because the team President was afraid of earthquakes.
Well, there was a lot more to it than that, but that's what started the move initially. Out of fear that a significant earthquake to the PNW region would cause catastrophic damage to the Kingdome, there were talks to remodel the stadium or build a new one that led no where. As a result, the team office was packed up into moving trucks and the team began off-season workouts at the old Rams practice field in Anaheim, and the team office was moved into a hotel room until the equipment could be moved.
However, a group of fans protested and blocked the moving trucks, the county filed suit, and the NFL to begin threatening $500k/day fines until the team returned to Seattle.
After six NFL titles, Curly Lambeau brought his Packers to Rockwood Lodge, the pinnacle of offseason decadence and one of the biggest disasters in sports history.
It was weird too because Warner was the greatest Cinderella underdog story of all time in the NFL for his super bowl win.
Then two years later, he’s the top dog and Brady and the Patriots are massive underdogs with a bit of a Cinderella story for Brady (not quite to Warner’s extent but close).
What I find fascinating is that Warner only made it back almost a decade later and Wilson still has yet to go past the divisional round ever since his stretch concluded. However, half of these guys listed still have time to make it back, Mahomes especially. This seems like an insightful examination of the hot hand fallacy, where one assumes that a streak of consistent good fortune/performance will continue on and on (exception you're an immortal demon sent to terrify the NFL landscape)
Yeah but he went to 2 in that stretch and was in the AFC Championship game 3 other times. So while he didnt "win" one he went to 2 and had a deep playoff run in 3 others. So 5 of the 10 years he didnt win one he was in the running for it basically.
