The ins and out of rumors doesn't concern me really. What I do know is the pressure is finally back on to succeed. Pressure on coaches, players to retain spots, the expectation to win is back and thats what I l'm liking.
We aren't back yet but we are on the way, our mindset has changed as a club for the better.

McYeah, baby! :thumbsu:

Ah thank goodness someone is now getting our recruiting strategy to make some sense! Enough with the best available! We must replenish our key position stocks asap!!!!!!! I am hoping for an announcement that derek hine will be signing for carlton to be made following the draft!!! I wanted hine years ago, and maybe that dream will now become a reality :)

Ratts was going to be under the spotlight this year anyway. Regardless of whether the rumour about Laidley was accurate or not.

As for Fish, I could see a couple of the older boys wanting to give him a free ride to his 100, but on the whole, the club was right in shutting them down.

I hasten to add that most seem to be commenting as if this is true, and we have been found out with false rumours before. We believe almost nothing when it comes to trade rumours, but when someone questions the coach, we hark back to the Pagan days and tend to believe it.

Richardson has stated that one of his main roles will be working with Ratts on strategy. So I'm not sure that the veto of laidley due to Ratts stating that he didn't need any help holds up. We head hunted Richardson. Why do that if we had already lined up laidley? If anything considering his senior coach ambitions and links with Swann you would think Richardson would be just as much a threat.

Now awaits rumour that Ratts went ballistic when Richardson was signed behind his back:eek::p

I am certain Ratten has certain benchmarks that are higher than previous seasons and if he doesn't meet them he is gone, but I don't for a moment believe that he is gone no matter what.

I am also certain that contingency plans are in place if things go pear shaped and it would be remiss of the club not to do so, but again that doesn't mean Ratten's papers are already stamped.

The OP has really just rehashed a number of points that are either already out there due to club statements, especially on player roles and rumours on the various boards IMO.

Regardless of how true the rumour is, there is no doubt Swan and Icke are putting in the ground work for the 2012 coaching position. If we stagnate in 2011 he'll be gone. 2010 was an improvement year because we lost 2 very experienced, quality footballers, and the young talent on our list filled the void nicely. The real disappointment was we were in a position to secure a top-4 spot and stuffed it up with a monumental self-destructive form slump. The expectations at our great club are always high. We're not interested in achieving "acceptable" finishes. It's all about winning flags, everything else is failure basically. If Ratten can improve enough to take the next step, then great... sign him up again, otherwise plan B gets executed. We have a history of being very brutal re. coaches. We don't stuff around.

:)

Correct, I am a Ratten fan also but if we dont move forward this year, changes may need to be made.

Swann and Icke would not be doing their job if they weren't sounding out every available option in case changes are needed. If Ratten has got his nose out of joint because the club is looking at contingency plans, he may not be the man that we need in charge of the club.

Contingency plans should be as a matter of course rather than just waiting for someone to trip up.
It wouldn't be just Rattens position that may be up for discussion at one time or another.
The same should go for all other teams competing at this level of the biggest competition in the land.

The other thing with rumours are that once we get a roll on them, there seems to be no stopping them.
Even the most minor of issues gets reported as an end of the world scenario. Isn't that always the case?[/quote]

True Harks..mountain vs mole hill

But are we surprised tempers flaring, differences...normal...

Rumours morphing into facts are always an interesting phenomenon:D

The OP's ïnsider obviously reads forums and reads the Carlton website so I applaud them for the hits they are generating;)

I just hope that he wasn't the same one that give him the info about Fev to West coast from Fev's own mouth, no less, and Pav to Carlton, because I sorta like some of the rumours especially the little blokes playing more in the midfield. I will comfort myself with the thought that that inside info has already been confirmed by the club in what was obviously some sort of timeslip incident before this thread started:thumbsu::p

This post started out as a major scoop inside info but ended with last 3 lines telling us info we already know

The entire OP was speculation based on rumors that have been swirling around here and other places for ages. There isn't a new piece of information in the entire troll.

You have to laugh at the gullibility of people in the off season. In the last 24hours we have had a conspiracy theory on why GWS have Murph and Simmo of the 600 odd AFL players in their promo and now this. I have even taken to watching the clock tick seconds by just to the draft this Thursday but I am not bored enough to make bullshit up and post it or get warmed up at what is so obviously a troll.

Take just 2 so called facts, first how would players know that with 5 rounds to go, it was a last chance to get Fish over the 100 line as to offer themselves be dropped, round 22 I could start to believe was possible but 5 rounds out, thems some powerful tealeaves the boys are gazing into. And yep, signed, sealed delivered means we have a massive contract payout ala Wallets and Sydney, thats what signed means people, a contract signed means money will have changed hands or will change hands, done deal gets torn up the same day because Ratts went "ballistic". We get legal paperwork drawn up and signed but dont tell Ratts and then, tell him the day it is signed and he dont like it so we scrap that idea and prepare for the payout. Thats how people really think the business of AFL is done these days?

Yep, all sounds true dont it. You really think this happened?

Come on people.

And Toadster, Jezza wasnt sacked he walked (to StKilda) when Harris was rolled in 1980 (and having just won a flag as captain coach, there was no way the new management was going to move him on) and was Walls replacement in 1989 and coached the year out and the next before Parkin took over in 91. It was Walls who was sacked in 1989 just a season and 2 rounds after we won the 87 flag. But I dont think Jezza was shafted at all. The only coaches sacked without getting a reasonable run (of time in the job) in my memory were Britain and Stewart, and you could argue Walls but he had 3 years and won a flag and it seems had lost the players.

I dont think we realized that providing an ongoing supply of women's lingerie was part of the deal when we hired Stewart.

herald sun personal vendetta against CFC is still my favorite...
Definitely had a personal thing for Fev after the Brownlow but that is understandable. What they were doing with Carlton is sensing weakness and circling until they could move in for the kill.

People say that they do this to lots of people/organisations so it is not personal, but the flipside is that all media have certain people/organisations they would not touch, so bias does come into it, and it is certainly personal to those on the receiving end.

The Sun has had a 'personal' vendetta against Carlton for years.

Ask yourself why the Great Carlton Side of 79, 81 and 82 is not given its rightful ranking in the pantheon as one of the great football sides in VFL/AFL history - yet everyone fawns over the 'great' Essendon side of 84/85 .

The main answer is Tom Prior who was the Chief Football Writer of the The Sun at the time and hated us with a passion - always gave us short shrift and never gave us the kudos that we deserved.

He tried to derail our 1982 Premiership with a stupid story during Grand Final Week (which he ghosted for Lou Richards) that David Parkin was signed sealed and delivered as Collingwood's coach for 1983.

David Parkin was reportedly upset that John Worsfold had been signed on as an assistant without any consultation with him. Everything worked out pretty well that year from memory :D

How to get noticed on this board:

- Take everything that the bitchers and whiners (y'know, the ones that have NO CLUE what actually goes in inside the club) assume that bests suits their agenda.
- Package all those things together in a single post, and claim it's all true, saying it's from "someone within the club" to substitute the lack of actual proof.
- Watch the sheep follow you into battle

If true , then simply Ratten is digging his own grave. You cannot have in fighting like this and be succesfull. you have to be on the same page. This is why the Collingwood boys have been brought in. Problem here if this resonates with some players we are F***cked. God knows what will happen if we start poorly!!!

Seriously another anti Ratten thread.....

If this was true then don't you think the club would do something about it?? Carlton is a strong, proud and powerful club and has never let BS get in the way of the club.

Whether the club is using Ratten waiting for Malthouse or Roos who have both said they aren't interested in coaching elsewhere than the roles they will be in come 2012, then time will tell.

For a guy who has taken the club from 15 to finals 2 years in a row with narrow losses, not sure what else he can do apart from win a Premiership, and before anybody says 'have a game plan' Alan Richardson has already come out and said he is very happy with our game plan we just need to be more consistent with it.

And as for Ratten, i'd be pissed everyday with the amount of negative BS that is thrown around and the knifes that have been out for 3 years now. New coaches have to start somewhere and build a career, Ratten is the right man for the club!!
