Both great bands, but seriously Zeppelin and Flloyd absolutely nail them in jsut about every category listed.

how so? name me there best song. i want to hear what the big deal is. cos Another brick in the wall and stairway to heaven (the only songs u ever hear on eht radio) arent that special.

Try listening to Zeppelins first 6 albums. Absolute masterpieces. Of those first 6, 4 which is their most famous and critically acclaimed is my least favourite.

Not as into Floyd but can still appreciate them.

When determining the greatness of a band, you have to look at complete albums, not songs. Start with Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon (my favourite but depends on who you ask).

No don't start with DSOTM (way overrated) - start with Piper at the Gates of Dawn or Saucerful of Secrets... much better!!

It depends if you like their psychedelic/acid rock stage or their prog rock stage.

Sounds and ideas.

Verno Reid was doing the Tom Morello space sounds thing long before anyone. Both bassists were awesome, but Wimbish in particular is a pioneer in terms of expanding what sounds you can get out of a bass rig. And Calhoun is just another who thinks very much outside the square.

What raised my eyebrows though was that they only got a 38/50 for live performance. These people have clearly never actually seen them play. They make most other bands of their era look like Jet.

I've only heard "Love Rears it's Ugly Head". It's not a bad song but it's not the best thing I've listen to. Most of the summaries I've read on them have been very brief. I just read a summary of them on www.allmusic.com and it backs up your statements.

Can you recommend any songs I should listen to?

Apart from Love Rears Its Ugly Head, the only song I've heard by them is Cult of Personality (which is a great song). Roddy also mentioned a few to listen to (might have been in this thread).
