I read a post on another site from a Pies fan,s observations of Hine and company on draught night as he come,s from Sydney and was there on the night.

The most interesting thing he had to say was the manner in which Hine delivered our draft picks, this fella said when it got down to about pick 40 onwards he said most clubs with dithering about who to pick.

He said that Hine just read the names that the club wanted without any discussion about who we were picking just read the names out we were very happy to have picked the players we wanted. This is another indication of the people running the club and their level of expertise.:thumbsu:

I noticed this aswell when watching on tv. Collingwood knew which players they wanted as soon as it was their turn which shows they have confidence in who they pick.

Re: Interesting observations from draught night

Can we please change the thread title?

It's making me thirsty. And no I don't have a problem although the fridge appears to have run out of my favourite stock.

Re: Interesting observations from draught night

To be fair, he did have a while to practise them, and many others entered the draft once or twice before us anyway.

They may have been 'dithering' around scenarios where they saw "we already took player X and then Y who are this type of player, so to get a good mix lets look into options around these types of players", etc.

Re: Interesting observations from draught night

I believe he had a list of 60 or so.
As each name was called he ruled a line through that name.
When it was our turn he just called out the next live name that was on his list.

So in effect he did have a plan but it was not overly complicated.

Plus I'm up for a Stella

Re: Interesting observations from draught night

Was the draft going a lot faster this year? Was following it on the radio/AFL website and barely was catching up.

Listening to the draft, it all went so fast, that barely had I heard the name of one draftee than the next was being announced. If Hine rattled off the names, then so did close to 17 others.

I assume that Hine & co. have a list of the 100 players they want, in order, and just cross them off as they are taken. When our pick comes along he just reads the next name.

That's how I'd do it anyway!

We went in with a list of 63 Hine said pre draft, as the player gets read out the name gets struck through on the list

Yeah - You don't really need 100 names.

We could probably draft our rookie draft picks from that same list of 63, such is the disparate nature of recruiting.
