On the main board I have been arguing attendance with a couple of Bombers and of course they tell us the Tiger Army is a myth and they are miles ahead. I looked at some stats on rlstats and you know it is amazing how much scheduling has to do with it. Look at the bald figures for 2006 and 2008, the two years in which we have finished above them, and they seem way ahead. However look at same venue same opposition and what do you get?

9 such games in 2006
10 in 2008

Richmond marginally ahead in both years. Only a few hundred on average but ahead. Essendon's headline lead totally down to scheduling. This after 2 years of Essendon failure in 2006 and 30 years of richmond failure.

Interesting when you think that they were ahead of Collingwood not so long ago and we have never done anything. A good Richmond would be huge. We are already as I say marginally ahead of Essendon when ahead of them when comparing like with like fixtures and this despite virtually never finalling.

We haven't even had a chance in 30 years to get our crowds above 90% capacity. Would need 2 years of consecutive finals to get at least 95%. Finishing last will obviously bring the crowds down, so will plenty of Sunday games. I really hope we aren't playing interstate home games when we are a force again. I'll be very angry if we play a home game at Tassie when we could be playing in front of 40,000+ at our actual home where 90% of our actual fans are. The club and it's supporters should always come before a few extra dollars. Do Collingwood do it? No because big crowds and home ground advantage will always come first

When I'm at the game, and I hear that roar from the Tigerarmy (which is by far the biggest roar in the AFL) that shows me that we have the best supporters.

Hawks wouldn't dream of taking an up and running Richmond to Tassie MT. Geelong wouldn't have us at KP either. Neither would sacrifice what would certainly be one of their biggest home gates.

Here are the 2006 and 2008 like for like comparisons.

2006 Richmond 40,330 Essendon 40,089 in 9 games 4 home 5 away
2008 Richmond 48,104 Essendon 47,383 in 10 games 4 home 6 away.

Even as we are a Richmond going better than Essendon as we did in 2006 and just about did in 2008 is a marginally bigger draw than Esendon who are totally dependent on fixturing to appear ahead. What would a couple of finals do? given that Essendon don't end up in Tassie or KP why would an even bigger draw - and that is exactly what we would be - end up there?

This always amazes me, grounds sound buzzy when we play but the moment we get a sniff, ala Saints third quarter with Jack the crowd goes BATSHIT insane and makes the cheers of the opposition sound like murmurs when they get back on top.

I notice on the main board in the saints at etihad thread old Windyhill scurrying back several pages to Dan's headline figures for 2006 and 2008 when I pointed out that same venue same opposition we were actually ahead in those years.

No surprise there I suppose.

30 years of rubbish and look at our attendances and where we are now. Would not be many clubs in the league that could withstand that and still be where we are off field turning a profit.
