Intermittent fasting

Last week didn't go to plan, had some crazy s**t go on that turned my world upside down momentarily. I was still mindful of eating time but some days were hopeless. I have this week off and I'm starting a new job next Monday that is in a workshop and I'm assuming has regimented break times so hopefully I can still make the 11-7pm eating window work, worst case it will move to 12-8pm. This is also the first job where there should be a fridge and a microwave available so that should open up some options.

I really hope I don't end up dealing with that carb flu again. That was the pits and I'm not keen to deal with that whole learning a new job.

I'm going to try listen to the Joe Rogan podcast with Peter Attia. Seems like an interesting dude.

Eating is one of life's great pleasures and I think there's plenty of ways to get shredded without going without eating for 24 hours. This will never sit well with me

I did 31hrs last week then ate and ate, food has never tasted so good. The next day on only 2 hrs sleep i had a rageing boner, I am 37 and the last time it was that hard and throbbing i had popped 80mg cialis. The Mrs is a very happy woman.
Two days after that fast i did a PB 2km.
The slight soreness in my knees (old age) when i squat has disappeared. Due to less inflammation. And yes unfortunately one of the side effects is getting shredded.

If you have tried it and don't like it fair enough, me personally i couldn't be a vegan or a carnivore or follow a keto diet or paleo diet etc but at some point i have inadvertently tried all the above for short periods. I have even tried the KFC diet yum yum.
If you haven't tried it, maybe think about a short fast like the 16hr fast 8 hr eating window, thats were i and many others have started, you might like it and you still eat the exact same amount of yummy food as normal!

nothing wrong with going for 24 hours without eating from time to time, if nothing else it is an interesting exercise in self control, and you might be surprised how easy or hard it is depending on how you approach it.

finding out what your triggers for eating are is never a bad thing either

You think food is pleasurable now, wait til you taste it after you haven't eaten for 24 hours!

I'm not sure doing 24 hours once in a blue moon qualifies as adhering to this method

well no, you'd want to do it once or twice a week really, I haven't for a while mainly because I like milk and sugar in my morning coffee and that breaks the fast

but once or twice a week is no big deal I've just not felt like swapping the coffee for a green tea lately

your comment was about going 24 hours without food, not doing it on a regular basis though, so like I said, going 24hrs without food isn't that hard

Have dinner, don't eat again until dinner the next night

It's made me appreciate how often I want to eat for comfort.

Like I'll be going along nicely on a fast, then something will go wrong or won't go to plan during the day and I suddenly think '* it, I want something to eat'.

I imagine this is what the concept of hell is based off of
i get days at work where that just happens without me having a choice, sometimes without me even realising, I will get to 3 or 4 and suddenly go, wait I haven't eaten today, well dinner is only a couple of hours away no point eating now

yes this would be me today, I went for a run but still wanted s**t food and booze
I caved, had the healthy dinner then went and got booze and snacks

New job has a fridge and a microwave and only stop for one break at 12. I'll just change to fasting from 8-12 so it works out perfectly. Lunch is going to be much easier knowing I can keep things cold and reheat stuff. Going to focus on really getting into the rhythm for a couple of months then try throw some workouts in.

Yeah i like it Milpool, the slower the better. Even with workouts i started real slow it was like 10 squats and 10 pushups each day at first, it was easy to do as my brain and body weren't trying to sabotage me because of overload. Then i slowly added things and increased quantity, it really takes no effort if you go slow, and then add only once you feel confident where you are and it's become a habit.

Yeah that's what I've learnt from the knowledgeable folk like Bazzar and saj_21, I need to take it slow and make sure each thing is a lifestyle choice more than a crash course that will just he unrealistic and I'll fall straight off the wagon.

My long-term plan is get well adjusted to IF, then do six months or so of home workouts, then if I'm still progressing consider joining a gym, finance and time allowing.

I find 16/8 to be easy enough, but I do have a coffee or two in the morning outside of the fast - and break on weekends of my wife wants to get breakfast.

I think it would be better if I could do 9am 1pm and 5pm meals, but with my work, 12-1 lunch and dinner before 8 is the most achievable - even if that's a big meal sitting there before sleep.

i sustain myself with 1 or maybe 2 cups of coffee. i know the purists will scoff but it helps me get through the day.
