I heard Wayne the Pain been interviewed on the weekend and he managed to outdo himself with his stupidity.
First he said leaving Essendon v Hawthorn at Colonial was clearly the right move because there is no way even 60,000 would have turned up at the MCG!!!! If Hawthorn can get 42,000 against North on a poor day, imagine what Essendon and Hawthorn could draw!
But that's not my main problem....he was then asked about the International Rules game that is going to be played in Melbourne and Adelaide in October. Jackson stated that at this stage he thinks the game should be played at Colonial!!!!!
When it was pointed out to him that over 70,000 people attended that match, he replied "well that figure was inflated because we gave away free tickets to the Auskick children"!!!
I cannot believe that this imbecile can be running the biggest sport in the country. Jim Stynes pointed out that lots of people were unable to get in that night due to car park problems, and Jackson said he knew nothing about it.
I mean, what a spin doctor. For starters, Auskick children receive free tickets to EVERY afl match - not just the International Rules match. Secondly, is Jackson saying that 20,000 kids turned up at the G, and that apart from that only 50,000 people paid? That's crap.
I went to that game 2 years ago and it was a fantastic night, I really enjoyed getting to see the best AFL players in the one team, representing Australia. The fact 70,000 people turned up, and Football Park was a full house indicates the International Rules concept has been a success.
Yet now the AFL want to move the match to a stadium that will mean 20,000 people will not get to see the game! Why ruin one of the best promotions for the AFL by playing it at a crappy 'boutique' stadium where people have to pay double the price!
Obviosuly Collo's had another sook, and Jacko been the spineless prick he is has caved.
Does anyone else here agree with me in saying the International Rules match MUST be played at the MCG? The statistics, which Wayne was so fond of in the Hawks-Bombers argument, indicate these games average over 70,000
The AFL Report states the main aim of the AFL Commission is to maximise the attendances of people attending AFL matches They should be prosecuted under the Corporations Law for blatent lying.
