Next Monday the Australian squad will start a training camp with the round ball. (A Gaelic football is the same size as a soccer ball but a bit more heavy so it doesn't deviate as much in flight as a soccer ball)
The two tests are on the 8th and 15th October at Dublin's Croke Park. It is currently half built, the old stands demolished to make way for a grand 80,000 seat stadium. Capacity will be around 50,000.
Apparently there's been a fair bit of interest in Ireland, but a big hitch has occured. The All-Ireland Final between Kerry and Galway last Sunday was a draw (by the way there was nothing at all in the Aussie press - despite results from virtually any other foreign sport). This game will be replayed the day before the first test. Our team may get to see it, but it will affect ticket sales to the international match and about half a dozen of Ireland's best will be unavailable for the first test. The Irish media are giving the GAA a "we told you so" as the problem was pointed out when their season's fixtures were announced. http://www.ireland.com/sports/gaa/2000/0927/news1.htm
Nonetheless I'm looking forward to the late night telecasts.
