Nothing serious. Just toying with the idea of what international stadiums could be converted for hosting AFL matches.

Just seen an highlights video of Scotland vs Denmark, world cup qualifier and notice how large the field is in comparison to the pitch at Hampden Park.

Lay some extra turf, put some goal posts up and let's go.

Not a bad shout, they can move the stands out to fit an athletics track so it could work. West Ham's stadium the old Olympic Stadium has the same function available which was a requirement of them getting the 2012 games, if they thought they could sell out a 60k stadium in London. It'd actually be a better AFL ground than football ground tbf  Another shout is Munich's old Olympic Stadium.

In Rome, the surface is an oval after all. Could you imagine this actually getting converted into an AFL stadium of all things? The international uproar, the invaluable publicity, the disrespect to history, the opportunity to expand on a famous landmark. What a concept.

Hampton's athletic track was only a temporary raised track that was fitted to size for the Commonwealth Games and took out the first 5 to 7 rows. Stands don't move at all, making the wings non-existent.

Starting point is that most venues that are only just wide enough for an athletics track are still not wide enough for the AFL - an athletics track is less than 100m in width, whereas obviously the narrowest AFL grounds are still 110m wide but ideally you'd have them 130m+ wide.

There's very few international stadia - even including most cricket grounds around the world - that could host a non-exhibition AFL ground.

For example, when Brisbane floated the idea in their absolute depths in 2015 of playing a home game at the Singapore National Stadium, I'm guessing that the idea didn't gain any traction because I'm not even sure the venue is wide enough to fulfil AFL rules for how wide grounds need to be.
