International Summer of Cricket 2021/22

it doesnt even make any sense, our home test summers have gone ahead during this pandemic how on earth did the states approach to covid force CA to cancel a test tour to another country like SA?

The focus during the past 18 months was on limited overs cricket due to having back to back world cups so even without covid we would have only played a few extra away tests anyway and the Australian states had no say in those tours going ahead or being cancelled .

Surely if Afghanistan don't come over they try to get another minor test nation instead. Perhaps Zimbabwe? We could then play the 3 ODI's against them as well.

Between the T20 WC ending around the 8/15th of November, having to quarantine, the Hobart test starting on the 27th and the 1st Ashes test starting on the 8th of December, there isn't going to be enough time for ODI's. Zimbabwe doesn't seem to be doing anything for that time period so maybe a Test match with them if they were willing.

Seven could well be happy to not have a match against a low drawing nation, where there is a solid chance of only three days play anyway. No doubt they would (again) overstate their potential losses when looking for compensation, but viewing numbers may be so low they barely cover production costs.

Sounds like Afghanistan won't be playing cricket at national level for a while then. ICC won't compromise and neither will the Taliban.

Considering it would be the first test of the summer I think it would still get a fair amount of eyeballs, despite the result. To be honest it might good for Australia to get some red ball practice in before the Ashes considering it is being played almost back to back with the World Cup. Not sure what the best solution is perhaps an A game of some sort, or a Shield game.

Surely they've got Zimbabwe or Ireland on standby. Both teams appear to be free in November.

Zimbabwe aren't playing the T20 World Cup so that would be ideal from a COVID standpoint. They could come quite early, quarantine, and then play some decent warm ups before the Test

The ICC already compromised back in 2017 when they allowed Afghanistan in as a full member nation without a women's side.

They don't have a board meeting until November, as yet the Taliban have not made it official. It will very likely simply be enforced through violence that no womens sport gets played rather than announcement that cricket has been banned. I can easily see the ICC hiding behind little technicalities for years yet, if there is money in allowing Afghan men to watch the Afghan team.
Some governments may well wait for sporting bodies to act, some of whom will wait for governments.

the Afghan board may try to ban them from playing in the BBL if CA are going alone. But CA never go alone so i'd say there shouldn't be any problems.

CA never wanted to play them anyway. They were basically strongarmed into doing it by the ICC after countless delays, excuses and whatever else they could come up with.

Its always about the $$$ for them. They probably had a small celebration when the Taliban came back to power as it meant this test probably wouldn't go ahead.
