As a quality sport and spectacle, it absolutely deserves to. No doubt whatsoever. But on the other hand, it would end up with us losing the best players chasing the big bucks o/s. Our local comp would end up being 2nd rate.
There are pros and cons. Wadda you think?

AFL is easily one of the most exciting sports in the world to watch. With limited TV coverage there are teams popping up all over the world. A good product grows without advertising.

We need ESPN to show at least one game a week internationally.:thumbsu: The more countries adopt the sport, the better I say.

I don't mind the idea of our sport going international. It would mean a bigger pool of players and thus a better comp, possibly a "world cup" or something patriotic and finally end all those stupid soccer comments how it is better cause its a "world game".

However, I love Australian rules football as it is, being an exclusively Aussie sport, where we get to see the worlds very best every week, without American franchising and ridiculous money being involved, both in player wages and spectator costs.

So i voted no, as i love the idea of footy staying as a purely Aussie sport, that other countries can always be jealous of, and never fully understand, as its uniquely Australian.

Well said.

Our country will and always will be the league where the best players come to see the game. Id love to see the game grow overseas as it could be other areas which recruiting managers can find a smokey and turn them into a gun for the bigstage! Im guessing we will see a lot of african type players play AFL in the future. they will be the most athletic, and best suited to our game.

we will never be alive long enough to see a world cup for afl. there are no other leagues which could even come close to competing against australia.
