$75 plan 500gb, no contract.
FTTN, 1.6 kilometres from access point.
32 Mbps down, 7 Mbps up.
Aussie Broadband who have their own network and provision enough that you don’t get the congestion slowdown. My speeds barely vary over the day.
I was advised before I signed that due to distance I would not get above 34 Mbps, so all good.

And this is only a few months old, but shows that’s it’s an endemic Optus issue,

Post 232.
Today I can finally say im free of Optus NBN Internet. Service disconnection has occured and im pretty happy for it.

For the past month I have been connected to ABB and Optus at the same time on my FTTH connection using a 100/40 profile on both services. In the past month i have conducted daily speed checks at 8pm (830AEST) on both services and It just proved that the angst of changing and unbundling services was the correct thing to do. My ABB connection is a consistant 7ms 90mb+ / 35mb+ speed where Optus just failed consistantly at anywhere between 5mb-40mb /5mb-30mb with a horrible sometimes up over 300ms ping.

the angst of having to unbundle was the only thing that kept me here this long but now ive biten the bullet the angst is over. It was a good service when it worked but because of the business practice of this company I wont be back.

Ty to the mods on here for helping me sort my affairs out with optus, it was so much less painful than calling ...

You need to get out of Optus.

Been having a Problem with Optus. IF Nothing is done by the 12th we can tell Optus where to Shove It:D:thumbsu:

Mate, by al the feedback all over the net, Optus will do nothing as their business plan doesn’t allow the expenditure to fix he congestion problem.
I would be contacting alternative isp’s now asking the simple questions;
What is the maximum speed I can expect at my address?
What do you (the isp) do to minimise peak hour slowdown?

Here’s an explanation about why the congestion slow down occurs, and why some isp’s are paying to reduce the issue.
https://www.gizmodo.com.au/2017/04/...ing-isps-to-build-their-own-private-networks/

I’ll again recommend Aussie Broadband as they are buying enough CVC’s to service their customer base.
And you don’t have to enter a contract so if you don’t like them you can walk awa6 with no penalty.

Yeah. I think I will look at Aussie Broadband as I just keep hearing how good they are

Email them and ask them what speed you can expect at your address.
They are honest and pretty much spot on.
From the speed estimate you can choose your plan. In my case they couldn’t give me more than 35Mbps (FTTN), so I didn’t waste my time with a top of the range plan, would have been nothing but a frustration.
Takes all the angst out of the process.

So get the 50MBPS at Most then?

Once we organise for Leaving Optus I will tell my mum to send E-Mails to ISP asking that Question

To get the 35Mbps I have to be on the 50Mbps plan.
But Aussie told me that 35 would be my max as I’m FTTN, not FTTP.
Honesty. I like that. Wonder what a Telstra or Optus rep would have told me? Pretty much sure it would be “you can get whatever you sign up for”

Ended up using Unity Wireless 50/10 - fast & consistent. They are also advertising 100/40 so may look at that down the track.
Seaford tower went live about a week ago. :)

I'm about 4.2km from the tower & getting full 50/10.
Considering there is no NBN here until 2019 at best & adsl is very slow, I'm pretty happy to have this speed. Pings are way better than adsl as well.

Optus rep would told you to Move or Make you Feel Dumb when they are the Ones that Have No Idea as they Probably Live in India

You're a bit far out of Melbourne Dave. Go with Aussie Broadband.

Seaford is fair way away from Melbourne as well.

Well I am waiting to hear back from Optus 1st because we have to wait to a Certain Time before we can tell Optus to Stick where the Sun does not Shine

Ah well. Didn’t know you needed unlimited.
Can I ask what you actually think you will use? Or what you have a record of using?

I can Download a Lot and Also Streaming would take up a Fair Bit as well.

Any estimate?
What I’ve found is that most “unlimited” plans suffer from the very issue that you are trying to get away from.
The unlimited bait attracts the buyer, it’s usually on a 12 or 24 month lock in contract, then the provider doesn’t buy enough cvc’s to give a pleasurable experience.
Streaming a 2 hour HD movie uses about 6GB.
If your using something like Netflix, make sure you change the quality from “auto”to SD.
In the meantime, check this mob out. Might be your solution.

Good reviews as well.

And no contract!

I will Check those 2 Links

Dave, you can check your usage on the Optus website. I have unlimited and don't think I have ever gone past 200Gb.
Got a call from NBN today and they are coming to change the position of their box as a matter of 'goodwill'.
I questioned the use of the word as I told the tech not to put it there in the first place. (On the floor right next to heater vent), sent them a photo and their complaints dept agreed it shouldn't be there.
I find my download speed varies between 10 and 25 during the day and get 20 during the evening, not sure what I should be getting on the $80 plan.

The site I used to use is gone but if you sign in to My account, think that you can get it that way.

NBN box (looks like a modem) is in my house at an old Foxtel plug. Yours? I don't know how far fromthe the exchange.

Telstra and Murdoch making heaps out of this mess.

Okay. We did not get a NBN Box in our House. We are just Connected to the Phone Line Still.

Also Village(Grahame Burke) as well as Murdoch and Telstra and Goverment has made sure we get Shit Internet:mad::thumbsdown:

If you’ve got an NBN box in your house then you are FTTP.
If your NBN comes via the copper telephone lines then you have FTTN.
FTTP should be the superior service.
Maggie5, have a look at your bill and it should tell you what speed service you are signed up to.
From that up/down speed you can do a Speedtest to see if you are getting value for money.
