Expansion Interstate Grand final

Would this be the first time in Bulldogs history when they have had the vast majority of supporters at a game behind them?Meaning the last 3 games in a row

Yes my club club has been granted generous concessions.Yesterday however showed what an advantage it is that Melbourne clubs have over non Victorian clubs on GF day.Just be good to hear Victorians acknowledge the advantage that this provides whenever the usual debate comes up about AFL inequality and bias
Most reasonable posters don't dispute that having the GF at the G is an advantage, of course it is, just not as big as some make out.

No, it definately is a huge advantage to any Victorian team playing a non Victorian team.
It appeared that 80,000 of yesterday's crowd was supporting the Western Bulldogs. According to the experts, the crowd of 40,000 at Subi always sways the umpires to favour the Eagles. So therefore a crowd of 80,000 supporting the Vic team would sway the umpires also.
The members of non Vic teams - especially the WA teams - have to be able to afford to pay a small fortune to attend the game. Why should those not able to afford the airfares and accomodation be deprived of seeing their team in a grand final!
The visiting members and supporters contribute massively to the Vic coffers. Why shouldn't this largesse be spread around!
This is supposed to be a national competition, it's about time the AFL started treating it as one.

It's confusing because you can jump H&A rankings as far as being the host goes by winning the qualifying final, but that doesn't count in your finishing position.

Eg. If GWS and Sydney had both lost in the prelim, the Swans would finish 3rd.

But GWS hosts a prelim while Swans don't.

Now if they both won, who's the home team for the GF ?

Comments like this are so ignorant. The AFL members was packed with Bulldog fans and other footy fans cheering them along. A lot of support in MCC too. That thread about 26k corporates has been shown to be false, they were counting those packages that anyone can buy, most of which were snapped up by Bulldog supporters this year. The AFL and MCC members takes up half the ground and they are full of footy fans not corporate junkets. Less than 10% of the stadium is taken by corporate stuff.

The sense of entitlement of those who live in Hawthorn and wear their ties to the MCC dining room is staggering.

30k - give or take a thousand - is the allocation to the true fans of the competing teams fans.

This is the AFL, not the VFL.

The limited statistics we have available are against you.

While I agree the Dogs got the crowd support this year and a biased umpiring result as a consequence, this had to do with them being a massive cinderella story more than being Victorian. Refer to 2005 as an example (remember that?).

Who ever said life is fair? Many Vic supporters can't afford or get tickets to their team's GF either. The fact that it costs a ton to get from WA to Vic is not the fault of the AFL.

The visiting members and supporters contribute massively to the Vic coffers. Why shouldn't this largesse be spread around!
I'll bet you want federal funding skewed in WA's favour despite getting more out of it than being put in for 95 years out of 100.

If you don't like it ask your sugar daddy the change it.

This whole thing is a crock. The FA Cup is played in London. 3 of golfs majors are played in the USA. NRL gf is played in Sydney. Home team advantage in MLB gets decided in an all star game. Yada yada yada

Deal with it

ps. Aren't the dogs Etihad specialists who played 1 game at the g this year

I rest my case.

So you have changed your stance from your previous post that there are 30K fans and 70K corporate junkets?
You were educated that half the ground is actually MCC/AFL members most of whom are footy fans, not corporate junkets, but you still claim that there are only 31K true fans. More ignorant comments.
There were many thousands of Bulldogs/Swans fans in the AFL members. I was in there, it was packed with Bulldogs fans. Some of them were AFL members, some of them weren't, some had gotten their ticket from friends/family who were AFL members but would rather a Bulldog fan got their seat.
Also there are over 10K of those packages sold which include brunch/drinks/entertainment etc and a majority of these were purchased by Bulldogs fans. There were heaps available prelim week but as soon as they won the prelim they all got snapped up.
As for your MCC comments, more ignorance. Most of the MCC are footy fans too, that's why they're members. People need to get that stereotype out of their head that the MCC are tie wearing snobs with a sense of entitlement.

The GF at the G is at least 90K footy fans. Those articles/threads that claim otherwise are incorrectly counting those packages as corporate seats.

And roughly how many MCC/AFL members do you think there are in WA, SA, QLD and NSW?

Again, 1.5 out of 10 tickets to members of each competing club - although it sounds like MCC/AFL members scalped quite a few to competing club fans.

But that's OK apparently, because it was "true footy fans" who scalped their tickets.

Actually the few I spoke to in the members got them at face value or as a gift.
Also quite a few Bulldog AFL/MCC members too.

Swans didn't even sell out their 15K allocation, the left overs went to Bulldogs members.

Great to know that interstate clubs can rely on being gifted a ticket by an MCC member from Hawthorn.

Or, in the unlikely event the free ones dry up, buying a multi-thousand dollar 'hospitality' package.

Gill's polo tournaments are more accessible to interstate AFL fans than the MCG in September.

Swans didn't sell out their allocation so there was no need for gifted tickets to them.
Giants wouldn't come close to selling their allocation either, doubt either of the Queensland teams would either.
There were packages starting from $900 odd dollars.

Yes. Interstate teams. Flights. Hotel accomodation.

Yes, it is. Because if you win the qualifying then you finished high on the ladder AND beat another team that finished high on the ladder = best performed.

If on the day before their final the entire swans team got the Flu and couldn't play, and they had to play the entire game with only 11 men on the field, and GWS only won by a point, would you still say they preformed better than the Bulldogs?

I think the GF should stay at the MCG. But, in a similar vein to Wembley, it should be used sparingly during the season.

Return all Vic clubs to suburban grounds, it is embarrassing having 20k at a Carlton vs Port game in a 1/4 full stadium.

Melbourne would need to find another option. But the MCG should be reserved for finals, and maybe for big H/A games like ANZAC day.

Had the Swans and GWS won the prelims, who is the home team for the GF ?

I really wouldn't want to be writing rules around ridiculous edge cases like that.

Well luckily the rules are already written, and they say that the winner of the Qualifying final, no matter how badly they preformed, gets a home preliminary final.
