I was just viewing the Good call Bad call thread and noticed one poster commenting on more needs to be done for Interstate members which I thoroughly agree with.It is quite costly to sign up and receive a few stickers in return.I am just looking for some ideas to make membership more appealing
for interstate members which will help us to achieve 50k and beyond.

As a parent of a young child (3yo) and another on the way, I would really like the club to look at the possibility of holding a small family day in Perth before the start of each season. They club could send guys like Yazz, Jeffy and Army who were originally from WA and I am sure they would be glad to get back home for a day or two.

The club could hold a bbq, interview the players, sell merchandise and will no doubt sign up a few new members.

I think this would really help turn these young Carlton supporters into lifelong Carlton supporters and help stave off the worry of your kids wanting to follow one of the local sides.

or send Twiggers and Megan Gale home to Perth for a meet and greet with the male blues supporter base:thumbsu:

The family day and bbq are great suggestions and I reckon would help junior Carlton supporters stay with the Blues.

Check out the WA Blues website (http://www.wablues.com/). While they are officially part of the club, they organise a lot of stuff before any WA games.

I head along to the odin most weeks to watch the Carlton games with the WA Blues which is always great but I am more thinking about what would help the younger supporters.

As a kid one of the best things you could do would be meeting the star players from your team and getting a autograph and your photo taken with them.

Exactly Blueboy for a kid that is priceless. And if you look after the junior supporters 9 times out of ten the adults will sign too.

The WA Blues does try and organise stuff with the club... usually breakfasts or lunches before the games at the Italian club.

It would be a good thing for them to organise a family day at the start of the season with a couple of the WA players coming over to meet the kids and sign autographs. Talk to Guns about it and he might be able to talk to the club.

We do what we can when it comes to functions etc involving players. Normally the decision on whether official functions are held before games comes straight from the club and they decide if they want to make a player available on the day (usually an emergency for the game). If there is no club function we will then organise what we can in the way of pre-game function.

A family day is something we have done a couple of years ago which was well received and something we are looking at doing again this year. We have several ex-Carlton players that generally attend the functions and also some of the WA Blues functions that we hold, but getting hold of currents players etc is a hard thing but we always trying to think of new ways to involve interstate fans and members with the club. We are actually meeting sometime in the next fortnight to discuss and finish planning what we are going to be doing in the upcoming year, so any suggestions feel free to fire them my way and I can discuss them with the rest of committee.
:D

IMO the family day idea would be great in all major cities. I grew up in Bendigo Vic, when it was still a Carlton recruitment zone. I can remember being visited by Des, Vinnie and a couple of others (sorry can not remember who the other two were) at my school. Ron Best and Tony Southcombe were teachers of mine. For kids to see, meet and get their photos with players. My favorite was Geoff Southby.

I went to school in the Collingwood area... imagine my disgust at showing up to footy training to the sight of a couple of filth players standing there in their kits to do our training that week.

Was less than impressed to say the least and I actually left as soon as I saw them and went home and got some training off a couple of guys who lived across the road from us... one of them ended up being our full forward for a year or so after transferring across from Fitzroy.

tyranny of distance has a lot to do with as does recovery, flights etc
Oh also one vital factor the guys Vic side always seem to lack-common sense

Maybe involve some sort of voucher for x amount at Carlton shop- might actually increase merchandise spending and keep people signing up.

i swear i remember they used to do this. Im sure i used some vouchers here for a game and got the jumper cheaper

Do regular Vic members get discount from the Carlton store? I recently asked via email if members get a discount as i was enquiring about ordering a guernsey and their response was quite cagey "Members do not get a discount when shopping on line at the shop"

Made me think that maybe members who walk into the store do?

members do get a discount at the shop I am pretty sure
hate when they say buy from us and the $$ go to the club not the AFL

No wonder I never got a response from the online shop's email when I asked why I couldn't sign in and get a discount. ..

Excellent idea. :thumbsu:
Don't tell me that's not already in place idea. Throw that past our marketers BSB.

e.g. Members in category A get 15%...........Members in category B get 25%
So what if some chose to buy for others at the discount. There's plenty of meat in the margins to make a profit and if not get in touch with me CFC and I'll make it work, although I wouldn't be party to any licensing arrangements to manufacture.
Buy the product cheap which gives you plenty of scope for wastage. Those singlets cost less than A$10.00 landed.

EDIT: Of course the AFL would not allow that though.
