Toast Into the Draft

Yeah. I found that interesting. Obviously the first two they were discussing would have been Duggan and Ellis when comparing them.

The comment that got me interested was:

"I rate these two higher than I do these two."

Obviously the first two were Duggan and Ellis. You could tell Duggan was one we liked by the reactions of FJ and Blair when West Coast called out Duggan's name. However the other two, I'd bet anything that one of them would have been Weller. I'd say that the 4 picks we had lined up at pick 12 were Ellis, Duggan, Weller and Cockatoo.
I'm just confused by the fact that at the time of recording this video, before the draft took place, they were fine bandying about Ellis's name but anyone else was off limits. As if they knew we'd get Ellis and made an effort to not reveal who else we were considering. I'm not wearing a tin foil hat currently, just seems more than a little perculiar. They'd say "Ellis and that other player" in a sentence so not just crafty editing.

Anyone else notice they were more than happy to drop Ellis's name but made a concerted effort not to mention anyone else by name? Really strange.

Not at all strange. If they were to disclose who they were interested in and they turned out to be duds then it questions their ability to recruit. At least by editing it so that Ellis was the only name discussed they can protect their backs a little, although it is rather obvious that it was a Duggan vs Ellis debate.

You're probably right and I haven't identified the editing, seemless work media lads.

You could see the Liam Duggan Vic Country draft profile on the television screen (a little blurry, but you could just make out his name) when they were just finishing up.

The Fact that there were camera's in the room means that this video was going to be made and they would of had their eyes on 2-3 players at our #12

Which means there is 3 versions of this video - I wonder if they will release them - No way me thinks

They just edited it so that only the players we took were named.

"Certainly no risk this fella. But how good is he going to be? I eh."

Is definitely Blair talking about Ellis.

"I reckon he's got huge upside (Duggan), and I'd say the same with him (Ellis)."

Blair definitely seemed to slightly prefer Duggan and probably has the best track record in the room. However he was gone, so spilt milk and all that.

A real fascinating feature by the tigers media department and i think deserves its own thread.

Interesting the comparisons between Ellis and Duggan (thanks to bananatigz for the confirmation)

Interesting hearing the bits and pieces when they took too long to make draft choices ;)

We seemed to be really excited about McKenzie and Butler especially. Also liked hearing Blair say that this was the happiest he'd been after a draft since 08 which netted Port Harlett, Trengove and Broadbent!

A big kudos to RFC_Official and the media team at the tigers... more please in the future.
That was the guy on the desk with Frank(not sure his name) who said that I think.

I think that would have been a result of careful editing mate.
Obviously.
How stupid would it look if we made a doco about the draft but made it obvious that we wanted player A over player B but we ended up drafting player B?
And how would player B feel watching the doco.
Of course it was highly edited but it was a great insight.

Menadue I think there was a general agreement that he was the clear pick

I don't know about that. The club clearly had a lot of trouble deciding between Blakely and Menadue on the night, and took a very long time. Here's hoping we got the right one.

Absolutley loved this and agree with another poster there is most probably 2-3 versions of this. Did seem a little staged but none the less a great insight into how it works.

Wouldn't it be amazing to go back and see the discussions in the JON year

Discussions? We didn't even have a recruiter. :p

Reports are, Blakely smashing it over at Freo, can mix it with their big inside bodies... Maybe we both got the right one.

Would of loved Blakely but we had to take a runner with a decent pick.
