Toast Into the Draft

Good insight RFC :thumbsu:

Quite surprised there weren't a few beers on the table at the hotel. Then again maybe we are moving away from using alcohol to assist in our draft selections :D

Any chance the club will post the 2004/05 draft videos, would love to see those!
Have found some footage

Discussions? We didn't even have a recruiter. :p

The video that year would probably be of Terry heading down to his local Bunnings, grabbing a few tins of paint and painting the club rooms. Bonus footage may have shown Wallace and Miller then cleaning possum poo. :)

Wouldn't it be amazing to go back and see the discussions in the JON year
The Greg Miller collection can be found here:

Really great and interesting video - RFC_Official please pass on the good feedback the video has been getting to the marketing folks. Easy to see why the club is considered the leader in the competition for multimedia offerings and videos. They keep coming up with new and fresh ideas.

Video had a few interesting insights.

  • Obviously, they weren't going to (or tried not to) name other players they overlooked/didn't select as well (as that could be seen as taking a dig at other clubs/leave them open for criticism down the track). Naming Ellis repeatedly gives the impression/show the fans that he was the man they wanted at our first pick. Might or might not have been the case but it makes sense for the club to at least try and show the viewer they rated Ellis highly either way.
  • Menadue selection being one with the future in mind (looking at 3 years before he is the right size to play AFL).
  • Butler definitely sounded like he wasn't expected to be available at his pick - did they mention Adelaide had shown interest in him too and had the next pick? Good way to deny the Crows and net a kid we wanted :thumbsu:
  • McKenzie sounded like the icing on the cake and was really pleasing to hear Hartley(?) say it was the best feeling he'd had after a draft since 2008 (his days at Port).

Does anybody know what the Roten test or something they were talking about is? I presume its some for of psych test. Ellis scored 57 which is up there as an all time high with Vlastuin and Jack. Duggan scored a 46 which was still pretty high.

Liked the video, probably the only thing I would have liked would have been some more in depth post draft interviews with some of the recruiting team at the end to wrap things up.

Wish all Clubs had Video’s like that made
Not that I actively check other clubs sites but it does seem that Richmond FC are doing a pretty good job engaging with its members / supporters

Anyone else notice they were more than happy to drop Ellis's name but made a concerted effort not to mention anyone else by name? Really strange.

That is no Surpise as I think Richmond would not want to know there thoughts on the Other Prospects that where drafted

Which is why imo it was staged. Clearly they prob did 2-3 versions. I have no doubt this is how it probably goes down but they have done a little acting here to appease the fans. Nothing wrong with that and love the insight none the less

That would not surprise me at all IF they had it Staged after they had there meeting and Just said what they said about each player for the Video

I reckon they would have had a fair idea who was going where. They def would have done one for Duggan and maybe even Weller. Its more so the process and how it happens that makes it interesting.

So they I think this was all done after there Meetings and things had been Decided and then they made these Video/’s for the Doco

Looks like they rented a huge 4-bedroom house in Torquay. I had visions of them smashing three slabs a night and smoking doobies out on the front deck and then walking out of their bedrooms each morning, making a cuppa and then starting work.
