Re: First Intra club practice match

It's not confirmed yet according to the club's twitter, so a slim chance they could change it still.

I would assume 85% of us that would want to go will be forced out by the 9.30am time slot. Pretty pissed off to be honest.

Ther could be some good match-ups if things work out as such:

Kreuzer v Hampson.
Walker v Tuohy
Waite v Henderson
Joseph v Garlett/Betts
Gibbs v Anyone

9.30 am. It may as well be a closed session. Same thing every year with these morning games, they'd hardly have their breakfast down.

Is that right? Sounds a bit early for a match really.
Not doubting you Thy..............maybe just a little bit............but are you sure?

Edit:
Never mind as they did play an early one last year also.
Seem to be thinking of the practice matches.

Re: First Intra club practice match

Not sure why posters are complaining about the start time. Feb is our hottest month. The club should put the welfare of the players ahead of supporter preferences. Will make an effort (flexible employer:)) to watch the boys.

As for match ups, would love to see

Kreuzer v Hampson
Bower take on Walker
Watson at CHF up against Henderson
Judd v Kane Lucas
Mitch on Gibbs in the middle
Jamo v Waite (FF)
Curnow tagging Murphy

Re: First Intra club practice match

Yep spot on.

The club should have these things on at good times for fans to attend. I know a lot of people who would go if it was on at 4 and none who will go if its at 9.30
At this time of the year the players' welfare takes priority over convenience of scheduling for supporters. We don't want the players playing a game when the temperature could potentially be in the mid 30s.

But training in the Middle east in 40 degree heat is great apparently?

Sorry for being a smartarse but i think they could deal with the issue of heat and still appease supporters like a Saturday morning for example.

Re: First Intra club practice match

Except appeasing supporters in the preseason probably isn't priority numero uno.

It won't be the only practice match we get and it looks like its just been timed to fit into their training schedule.

They don't hold their training sessions at 4pm.

This is all awaiting confirmation, of course. :thumbsu:

Training in the Middle East in 40 degree heat in October is a lot different to playing a game of football in similar heat in Melbourne only weeks from the start of the season.

You will find that the whole training & match practice components of the pre-season have been meticulously planned to ensure our playing list is 'cherry ripe' for the home & away season & subsequent finals (much like how a swimmer or athlete prepares for the Olympics or World Champs.)

At this stage of the pre-season, I think what is best for the players takes priority over appeasing supporters. Certainly IMO the focus must be on being best prepared to challenge for a premiership, not scheduling intra-club practice matches to best suit supporters.
