Anyone else there think that we might just have been on to something with Gysberts?

Ask the same question at the end of next year... I don't think he looks physically ready for AFL as yet so may take a bit longer then Trengove or Tapscott... but then again, Morton killed that theory. I thought he looked a tad out of his depth at times, but when he did get it seemed classy.

In other news... I think Emma Quayle compared Trengove to an Aston Martin, and how right she was. He is all class, just a smooth mover. Seemed to have oodles of time whenever he had the ball. Superstar.

Unfortunately when it comes to actually sitting down and putting those ramblings into something coherant it all goes wrong as you end up with 2500 words of pure waffle.

Reading BF, 'land and 'ology it looks like I'm in a minority who liked Maric's game.

Your write ups were pretty spot on as usual, Mercs. I thought Jared R was a bit better than serviceable though. He moved the best he has moved for ages and made life pretty tough for Millsy after quarter time. He got back a little bit to that third man up role and got plenty of fists into marking contests.

Tom Scully found a heap of his ball in traffic. Good quick hands out of contested situations, rather than the run and carry I expected from him. I'm sure the latter will come with confidence and game time.

I felt sorry for Rohan Bail, who had the job on Jurrah in the first half. But it was pleasing that he still took off and created a bit of run from defense.

Chip Frawley was super strong, and ran heaps. A real supercoach prospect if you ask me.

For me, there were no real standouts other than the obvious. Green was dominant. Jurrah looked a class above and turned it on at will. He has a bit of mongrel in him too. He was quick to push or wack any defender that tried to grab him. And Trengove is class. Good mover, evasive, clean hands and a great kick. An exciting prospect.

was there today but unfortunately arrived at 1st quarter time and then had to leave at 3rd quarter time. The players that I noticed that looked to be playing well were Trengove(pure class, can read the game well), Green(up fwd was great), Bail(Thought he played well running it out of defense picked up a few possies too), Jurrah(played great), Gysberts(Just seemed to find a bit of the ball), Scully(Didn't do heaps in my eyes but has to put on weight and did ok in contested positions)

Also what is with Mortons hair he growing curly bits at the end and it looks ridiculous and how did Petterd miss the goals from 15m out on the run he had all the time in the world

Great crowd on hand. A couple of thousand people I reckon. Game was ok. Still can't really work out a game plan though. A quick note on a few players:

Scully - was handy in close and kicked a great goal in the last
Trengove - ready made for AFL. Disposal was a standout
Sylvia - got better as the game wore on, looks primed for a big year
Frawley - solid as a rock down back and gave good run
Strauss - his kicking looked very good, should start rd1
Jurrah - as usual, very dangerous and is truly exciting to watch live
Fitzpatrick - did some good things and led up well. pity about his kicking
Moloney - is a tank. enough said
Spencer - showed some good improvement today
Benell - moved well and used the ball well. I like the kid
Maric - looked dangerous down forward, if Wona isn't fit, he will play
Davey - was quiet
Morton - finds heaps of space, but team mates need to use him more
Rivers - fit and ready to go
Grimes - did ok in the middle. when he got it, he used it well
Green - best on ground performance. Fit, he will be one of our best

The standouts for me today guys, were Trengove and Green. Trengove looks super impressive. Evades tackles, takes on the game and uses the ball superbly. Brad Green moved forward but still played up the ground a fair bit. Was a great turnout as well. Now bring on Round 1....

His grandmother died.

well that's awkward... condolences :(

i actually liked morton's new cut, quite retro.

not sure about The Fitz... seemed lost at times and kicking lacked... did some good things in between.

For me, there were no real standouts other than the obvious.

I think the obvious standout was Bell.... His confidence is already shot, can't see him getting anywhere near a game...

Joel McDonald at the start was interesting to, why would the Mahoney (coach of red team) allow the match of Mac on Spencer???? Very poor start for assistant coach, he better get his act together quickly aswell, we can't afford mismatches that will allow the opposition a couple of easy goals start, due to be slack...

Only injuries to report on the white team, Dunn & Hughes (cramp), great result...

Spencer's kicking has improved out of sight, he can only improve more...

With time Fitzpatrick is going to be a star, the pace he has is amazing & with time, he will provide a fantastic leading target for us..

Jetta did some very good work with the ball & without it, Bennell was impressive, but still has to work on his disposal..

Just a word on a couple of Casey kids to watch out for who looked quite at home at this level, I don't know their names, but no's 11 & 33 (white team), anybody know who they are?? very impressive...

I was impressed with the game plan being followed through with by both teams , of around the half back line / middle, on most occassions the ball was centred & we had players like Sylvia & Strauss bursting through for the handball & kicking to a moving target...

Scully & Trengove were each as impressive for different reasons, Scully played in the middle of the ground more & was very effective with his disposal (hardly off the ground for the match aswell), Trengove spent the majority of the game out wide & provided a option on most times (and was used) & his disposal is 1st class...

I left there thinking, well who is going to miss out against Freo???? Bloody hard decision for the selectors, About 35 players should be in the running..

A special note for Wattsy, I was having a chat to Trent, (yeah you the one), I asked where he is playing this year & he said he is going back to basketball & he is off to USA on a college scholarship playing basketball...

He must have some hidden reflex skills that we don't know about... Now I'm pissed though as I will have to follow his progress, just for you.... :D

Well we get 26 and 2 substitutions for injury, so we can pretty much fit them all in :)

How did Cale Morton play? Did he play middle/wing or was he playing half back?
