Never freaking noticed this was here. So here's my intro.....15 months late

My name is TJ I live in Omaha, Nebraska. My very first introduction to footy was in 2003. But a 21 year old American me had no time for this game. A old friend moved to Perth and got hooked. In May of 2014 we met up in Seattle and all he kept looking up was footy. November of 2014 I signed up for AFL global pass and in January 2015 I became a member of the Gold Coast Suns.

Many factors went into picking a club to support, some legitimate some not. It came down to the Gold Coast and St Kilda. So I do have a soft spot for St Kilda.

I spent 6 weeks in Perth last year and went to a Fremantle, West Coast, and many WAFL games. Can't wait to go back, but I'll definitely need a week in the Gold Coast.

I went to a NY Jets game in January at Metlife and wowee the atmosphere was the best I've ever experienced. What did you make of the West Coast/WAFL atmospheres compared to local sport to you?

College sports are big in my state. University of Nebraska football is king here. We have the College World Series every year and we've hosted college basketball tournament games.

The AFL experience is equal to the NFL in my mind. Big, lively crowds which I did enjoy but in today's age of big screen HDTVs I rather be at home. To me the WAFL experience is much like minor league baseball. I live less than 10 minutes away from the Omaha Storm Chasers the Kansas City Royals AAA team. Small, family friendly venue while being cheaper which doesn't hurt.

What really blew me away was the three games in one day. I never understood the colts/reserves/seniors set up, so experiencing something like that was great. It was great to see some guys in last years draft as well as this years. Especially since supporting GC and them liking some WA boys.

Hey guys, hasn't been a post here in a while. Been on here since last years trade period. I am 16 years old and from Melbourne. I am in year 11, and am aspiring to become a journalist, hopefully in the AFL. I have barracked for Carlton my whole life with my dad. But ever since probably last season, I have become more and more interested in the SUNS. I consider myself a fan of both teams, even if even that doesn't sound right for an AFL fan, I just can't split the two. I went to my first live Gold Coast Suns game this week, against the Kangaroos, where I sat in the cheer squad, and experienced the perks of being a SUNS supporter. I am going to see my first game at Metricon this year, against the Blues, where I will support the Suns. I have been a prominent poster only on the Gold Coast board and have only once posted on the Carlton board. Great to hear the stories about everyone on the board, and hopefully we continue to support the SUNS. Go SUNS

I'm new to this board but I have been on another club's board for a while. I'm finally making the switch to Suns something I now regret not doing when the team formed. I've been on the Gold Coast for 30 years and see a couple of games a year at Metricon. For those doubting my authenticity I have really resigned from my former club after 18 years membership and contacted the Sun's membership department today and they created an account for me so when 2018 memberships come out I will receive the info. I'm hoping I bring luck, when I joined Collingwood in 1999 they were last and broke and within a few years were playing in Grand Finals. The Suns seem better placed than Collingwood then and I am really looking forward to the new coach, I think you see were I'm coming from. Now to find a favorite player and think up a new username and avatar. Go Suns.

Welcome mate, and hope you enjoy your time with us. I have a similar story in that I lived on the Goldy for 20 yrs (1985-2005) and was there when the Bears came to town and followed them up to Brisbane as the Lions and was there for their 3 peat. Even though I left the GC in '05 for Thailand, as soon as the Suns were born, I joined as a Foundation Member. Even though I like to see the Lions do well, it's The Suns through and through for me.
Make sure you let everyone know your new name/avatar etc when you're ready to post on the main Suns board.
Once again, welcome.

Spot on Choppers. I haven’t lived permanently on the coast for many years now but I cherish the memories of living in one of the most beautiful places on earth. Loved the Lions but couldn’t help but jump on board when the Suns arrived.

What do Gold coasters think of Burleigh as a place to live?
One of the most underrated spots on the GC and it won't be for much longer because the next tram extension will be heading to Burleigh Beach over the next five years. You'll often see the Suns players and Titans players hanging in or around James St because it's a little more hidden away from the hustle and bustle that is the Broadbeach-Surfers-Southport area. It's very central in the sense that you can get to Broadbeach, Robina or the airport within 15 minutes of driving. If you don't know, the two biggest shopping centres on the Gold Coast are based in Broadbeach and Robina. Burleigh also borders Varsity Lakes, which is where you will find the southern-most train station that takes you directly to Brisbane city.

Virtually anything you could possibly need/want is within a short walk/drive whether it's a university (Bond), a major shopping centre, a world class beach, dining options, pubs/bars, a casino, sporting facilities etc.

Hey all, Longtime lurker, figured now is good as any to make an account. A little about me I am from Canada been watching AFL since 07. Supported a few different teams over the years until I had my first chance at an expansion team. So naturally went with Gold Coast, I was still a casual supporter until the last couple years. I’ve become a more keen supporter, even though there hasn’t been lots to cheer about. Just something about this club that I have become fond of.

That said I feel optimistic for this decade, hopefully it’s much better than the last. Say hi or don’t it’s all good hopefully I can stay invested enough and contribute quality posts from time to time. See ya on the boards!

Seems like we have a developing overseas fan base, which is definitely good for a club like ours. I once saw a truck driving around where I live sporting a Suns decal, couldn’t believe there was another Suns supporter here.

Edmonton........unfortunately? 🙃

Only been to Edmonton once, early 2000's after completing Runs in Calgary and Red Deer, and then attending an open air FREE concert in some park, featuring a brilliant Linda Rondstat.....and also visiting West Edmonton Mall, which is absolutely huge, after which we the went onto Jasper and Vancouver and home.

Hey everybody. Been a long time occasional reader. Based in Melbourne, I was dragged along to Gold Coast games by friends. Was never a massive football fan but grew to love the atmosphere and lockdown last year had me reading and learning more about footy and the Suns. Please take it easy on me, i'm still learning.

Oh hi I didn't know this thread existed or else I would have posted in it sooner. Been reading this forum for a while so decided to finally make an account. I've lived in Gold Coast my whole life and used to play junior footy for Southport. Been supporting the Suns since 2012 and hope us fans can finally get some reward for this loyalty over the next few years, although whatever happens i'll stay loyal to Gold Coast.

Also have an interest in other GC/QLD based teams such at the Titans, Maroons (RL) and the Reds (RU) (and formerly the Blaze and GCU ) but it's fair to say the Suns are my number 1 priority and I would do anything to witness a Suns premiership

Hi Fellow Suns supporters
Long time reader and finally decided to sign up. Live on the Gold Coast and have been a member since 2017.
Played a bit when I was in my teens in Canberra 40ish years ago. Followed Carlton because my Dad was born there but saw the light and here I am.
Really looking forward to a great year and watching the team flourish.
