What the hell is going on here? Why is no one looking into this? Is the corrupt media complicit in a giant Rort?

As we are all aware, the very successful and historic Geelong Cats football side has been dominant in the home and away season for the past decade but has been unable to play home finals at their home ground. This is of course, manifestly unfair. The justification given is that Kardinia park is not suitable to host finals due to capacity and other factors. I wonder how the stadium could be in this state given the half a billion dollars in government grants that have been awarded by the government to develop the stadium. One would think that all this money would result in a stadium with decent capacity or a ground that is oval shaped at the very least. I for one, demand answers for the amazing people of the greater Geelong and surf coast region.

Where is the grant money going? Frank Costa? Andrews government? Local council? Club officials? Shady underworld entities?

I am aware that works are currently underway at the stadium but I have heard concerning reports. My cousins in Geelong tell me that all they witness at the construction site is a bunch of blokes with beards/bikie slags wearing high-vis vests standing around smoking and generally doing **** all. reminds me of the railway construction in the old west whereby the rail companies who were in cahoots with various factions within the government would deliberately delay/jeopardise the construction in order to continue siphoning that sweet grant money for a longer time.

Needless to say, this is a disaster for the people of Geelong and the integrity of the competition in general. My heart breaks for the poor young cats fans who don’t get the chance to see this champion team play a home final. The heartless individuals who are perpetuating this cruel injustice on these unsuspecting and good natured people must be brought to justice.

Increased awareness must be brought to this issue.

I have always found it odd that it has taken so long to make so little progress. Also when games are played at the stadium and the camera pans to the construction site there is always only 1 or 2 guys there and no building work going on in the background. I don't know who you would get to investigate it in Geelong though because we don't know how high up the scam goes.

There is no dedicated size for an AFL footbal field. All venues throughpout Australia are different in size as they are all through metropolitan Melbourne. Geelong have played at Kardinia park since 1940, it's been around since the 19th century as a public park, zoo, speedway and for the past 82 years as the home ground for Geelong. It hosts Soccer, Cricket and Rock Concerts and it's 17 metres longer than the SCG! The beauty of Home and Away grounds in Melbourne for 100 years was they were all different. All this talk about Geelong's home ground is absurd. They will get 11 home games when the new grandstand is completed and they can seat 40k and opposition footy fans throughout the land will go into meltdown. It's the perfect H&A venue for a team not based in Melbourne.

We have the flashing lights at the Gabba now. It can sometimes be easy to forget a game of football is being played as you stare at the mesmerising colours. I think you'll really enjoy them.

The OP might be onto something. The ground is missing a whole wing so only 90% of an AFL ground yet 100% of the redevelopment costs come from the government/AFL. There are some connected people getting a taste of the action & hence why it’s perpetually under construction in every part except for the missing wing.
