12 is overkill for Articuno but just about not enough for Lugia, that thing is a f***ing beast.

Got the Articuno but not the Lugia unfortunately.

30 to 40 people in a random park and shopping centre car park on a Sunday morning, game is picking up again. I wonder how long the coordination will last because it is impossible to do it with less than 10 people I reckon. Good thing is you have a lot of time to reenter and go for it again.

So wait, how do you actually catch the legendary? Just by beating it in a raid battle?

Be part of the raid group (and it WILL be a group, impossible with only a couple of players) and you will get the chance. The number of Premier Balls awarded to you at the end once you defeat the Pokemon is dependent on a few factors (damage, gym control etc) but you will get between 5-13 from my experience. If your Pokemon storage is full, you get kicked out but you can still try and catch it once you make room. If you are out of Premier Balls, the Pokemon goes away permanently.

Oh, and if all 6 of your Pokemon are knocked out, you can always re-enter (so long as there is time remaining) and you will still get the opportunity to participate at the end in an attempt to catch the Pokemon.

The Eagles loss left me pissed off but overall the day was really good. Lots of players, having fun talking about the best way to take down, then catch the legendaries, arranging meet ups over Facebook all over Perth even in such crappy winter weather. A couple in my Lugia raid group resorted to Dittos (they were out of their good Pokemon) so it was comical seeing fake Lugia trying to take down real Lugia - which of course failed dismally. A family had children born well after Pokemon were released but they were just about the most passionate Pokemon fans I have ever seen. So much happiness on their faces when we all took down not one, but two Lugia.

This is what PoGo should be like. The renewed interest and enthusiasm will disappear of course but glad to see this resurgence and the re-emphasis on the social and outdoors nature of the game.

And yes, I caught both legendaries. :thumbsu:

Lugia is an absolute beast

The sweet spot is about 12, I think. 12 high level players can take it down in my opinion, I went around in a group of 12-14 with a couple of fairly low level players and we squeaked it in with about 15 seconds to spare.

Articuno is a lot easier.

I assume Adelaide. Surely there must be players, Adelaide still has over half a million residents.

There's definitely players. The local PoGoSA page organised a meet up a week or two in advance to take advantage of the rewards that were gonna be unlocked at GoFest. When legendaries were unlocked, the hype was nuts and ~200 people rocked up in the CBD walking from raid to raid. Managed 4 Articuno raids, 1 Lugia and a TTar. Caught 2/4 Articunos, 1 Lugia (Critical catch ) and the TTar. Some didn't get anything, some caught all of them. Was a really great afternoon.
