And they accuse Microsoft of unethical marketing...Apple's is as follows:
1. Take new technology, put it in packaging that will entice trendwhores and sell for several times the price of other similar products.
2. Solidify sales base.
3. Wheel out Steve Jobs to release numerous "updates" and thiny-veiled "new innovations" until idea is tired.
4. Rinse and repeat from 1
5. Release Lance Armstrong-style Steve Jobs book, innovatively printed back-to-front, charge US$100.

-I am in the market for precisely a lightweight, portable, functional computer, mainly (but not only) for movies, browsing, email that sort of thing.
You would think I would be the kind of potential customer who would be absolutely gagging for it, and I was paying close attention to the release, but this really does not sound up to scratch.
No camera is disappointing, Lack of multitasking would be very hard to get used to (wtf turns on their computer and thinks 'i will go on msn and do absolutely nothing else'), but the clincher for me is the lack of usb port, utterly ridiculous, and I can't see any rational reason why it couldn't be included other than apple being w***ers. Same with a lack of micro sd card- what's the good in using it for playing media if you can't easily put movies onto it?

-inbuilt usb port + sd care port
-inbuilt web cam

So, it's bigger than an iphone/touch so it wont fit in your pocket and smaller than a laptop and offers less functionality than either - GEEZ SIGN ME UP. I WANNA CHUCK A GRAND ON THIS.

i don't know, bt headset, talk on the phone while flicking thru the paper, or a book or while surfing the net. but that would require multitasking and it can't ****ing do that.

I admit that the features that are lacking are a huge negative for the iPad. However, if it had all those features, I get the impression many of you would not change your opinion. I had been hoping to get a Mac netbook, cos I'd rather a 10" than a 13". So perhaps I have to go Wintel. Not sure when the last Macbook Air came out or when the next one is coming. And the 13" Pro is too big for me I reckon.
EDIT: Is it even possible to overlook all of the shortcomings? I have had my iPhone for 6 months. Right from the start, I said "It's too big, too heavy and the batter life sucks!" Even with all that said, I love it. I mean, compared to my previous HTC Touch Dual (WinMo), there is no comparison. WinMo sucks and is dead, it has no future and Ballmer has said as much.
So what will people think of a 2nd or 3rd generation iPad? And does anyone want to rank the must-haves of the features the iPad doesn't have? Which features must it have if you were to even remotely consider buying one?

Apple have released a device that you NEED to buy stuff for to even make it remotely useful and left out features so they can add them later and have the apple acolytes buy another device.

The iphone had features smartphones of the time lacked. The ipad doesn't. Its inferior in every way to competing devices. As for the AU price I read it on 1 of the tech sites so yes it could be wrong. But the base US price will be US$500 so its going to be substantially more than that in AU$ and more if you want more than the base model. Plus you have to pay for the bandwidth.
Just struggling to see what role it is supposed to fill at this stage. Unlike an iPod, iPhone or Macbook, it seems more like a gimmick then a utility device that I'd use everyday. There's a reason why Tablet PC's really haven't taken off; they suck (utility-wise) outside of niche markets.

Apple stuffs up AGAIN! What a useless company they are, they've never done anything good! Yet they have such a high customer satisfaction rating and profitability. Go figure.
As usual, all the nay sayers queue up to heap their scorn, same as it was with the ipod and iphone. They don't even need to wait to use one to "know" it'll be a failure.
The market will be the ultimate test, regardless of internet forum attitudes.

With those features missing, it's obsolete already. However, the people will still lineup to buy the product, and apple will add the missing features over generations to milk the cow for all it is worth.
It's a shame this device will probably sell well, as it looks like a useless piece of sh*t IMO. This coming from a Mac owner. I just dont see what use it would have with so little features? Definitely too gimmicky at this stage until they add the feautures later on that it should have originally had etc.
