When I get my emails from Essendon with the weekly team, it'll download a small portion of the image, then tell me it's not complete and ask if I want to download the rest (in this case, usually 250kbs). So no, it won't just download the whole bulky email straight away.
fo'shizzle.

Google Andrizzle for the wizzle.
Although different, I can't see any real advantages either way for an end user. Maybe in a few years down the track when the battle might be won, but right now the main differences effect app developers.

FWIW Google Android excites me greatly, but I'd rather wait until the platform is a little more mature. The iPhone is not a perfect device, far from it, the battery life is not great and the device is big and heavy. But given those major drawbacks, I'm loving the experience and will be very happy for 18-24 months when I will again choose between iPhone, Android and webOS.

And re data, unless you buy outright, you get at least 250mb data on any plan, and that is bloody heaps. I've been on the net heaps, and in 3 weeks have used 170mb. My monthly quota is actually 750mb, so I got no worries.

Yeah that's happened to like, at least 10 people around the world!
Were they all palestinians by any chance?

I've done my diligence and I'm going to go for a bezza. Reasons:

1. Better email functioning. This will be mainly used for work and easier the email functionality is the better.

2. Security. The iShizzle's security is not quite up to scratch yet

3. Battery life. Having to have 2x batteries because the iShizzle has to be charged once every day is a pain in the shizzle.

4. Physical robustness. If you drop the iShizzle the screen will prolly break. I occasionally drop my phones.

Downside:

1. The Bezza's applications suck balls.

2. The Bezza doesn't look as slick.

With the battery, if you aren't an app intensive user, you can easily get 2 days worth out of one charge.

I drop mine ****ing often (at least once a week) from anywhere between knee to waist height (I'm about 183cm tall) onto concrete, floorboards and all that shit, and nothin near a cracked screen. Maybe a few scratches on the back, but nothing that would cause it to break.

Just some points that help.

I Phones are pretty durable and it takes quite a bit seriously damage them. I have dropped mine twice at work since i have had it on to concrete (I am 184 cms FWIW ) and only managed a small scratch on the back. I did sh!t myself the 1st time though thinking Ohh God i only just got it

Some good tests in here these blokes do on all new Phones and the I Phone stacks up well. There are plenty more of these Vids on You Tube this is just one. Well worth the look. Some have water testing and more etc

cheers, that's handy to know.

Don't disregard the Palm Pre either. It can cut cheese.

Convinced this phone doesn't exist... been to many 3 stores only to be told they're sold out. Damn it.

They have been and continue to be difficult to find. Do what I did.

Ring a few local AllPhones stores: http://www.allphones.com.au/home.asp

They sell for every carrier, or at least most of them.

If you want a 16GB black iPhone 3GS, specifically ask "Do you have a 16GB black iPhone 3GS on Three Mobile?" Call every couple days. Go to 3 or 4 local Three Mobile shops, see if they have any. Assuming they don't, get a direct contact number for the shop. Call each shop every couple days.

I think Wed/Thu, maybe even Friday morning is the usual delivery time for new stock, but the shops may not even know themselves until an hour before the delivery arrives, hence you need to keep calling around.

And lastly, keep an eye on the iPhone on 3 shipment thread over at Whirlpool.

Thanks red and black. Three is who I'm currently with, I'm planning on upgrading with them. 1 gig of data on my current 29 plan plus 25 repayments = 55 per month.

I got told friday and tuesday mornings is the usual time for delivery. No more reserve lists at a few stores because there is no point.

It's ridiculous really.

Why 3 and not other carriers? What is their coverage like?

ps Do you work for 3?

If you bothered to read Harro's post, he said, and I quote "Convinced this phone doesn't exist... been to many 3 stores only to be told they're sold out. Damn it."

I have an iPhone with 3 mobile.

Hence, I felt that I was in a position to provide some advice, which I kindly did cos I'm a nice ****ing bloke.

And no I don't work for 3. I couldn't care less who Harro or anyone signs up with. I assumed Harro was with 3 or wanted to go to 3 for his own reasons. That's his business.

You need to calm the f*** down. I was asking a couple of simple questions. All through this thread you have been pushing 3 Mobile. I need to know why. Do they have better prices? Better coverage? I need to decide which carrier to go with and as I respect your opinions I need to you to tell me why i should seriously consider 3. And it helps to clarify right off the bat if you have an affiliation with 3 - I need to rule out that you are being biased.;)

Ok ok, my bad. A rather dismissive "do u work for xxx?" tends to get thrown around when someone is merely trying to provide some assistance from their own perspective.

This is my situation, the whole story. I was with Telstra in the 90s, and Optus in the 00s. I'm a Palm fan boy from the late 90s, loved them. Had to reconsider when Palm stopped making new devices and kept giving promises to update the OS. I held out as long as I could but eventually caved and went to WinMo.

At work, we were moved to a basement office and I had no Optus reception, but I didn't want to go back to Telstra, so I went to 3 Mobile because they roam to Telstra (and reception in my suburb has proven to be exceptional, but each to their own). And then recently, I was tossing up between the iPhone, Google Android and the Palm Pre.

Way too early for Palm Pre, Android excites me but I decided to wait on that for now, so that left the iPhone 3GS. The number of cheap apps was a big determining factor, especially local content, not to mention the enjoyable user experience. I went to an Apple shop twice to play around with the iPhone. I thought the keyboard would be a problem, kept pressing the wrong letter, but you get used to it, and I have never texted so much in my life. I hardly texted when I was on Windows Mobile.

To be "fair and balanced" in the words of Fox News, I will say this:
- it annoys me that 3 Mobile roams in places I would like 3G access, such as my office, the casino and supermarkets
- the iPhone is large and heavy and the battery life should be better

Alas, I accept those shortcomings and am still absolutely loving the experience.

Almost had my iPhone for a month, which is probably a long time to not jailbreak. I'm checking out some screens on whirlpool, it's good to know what the possibilities are:

i find that with the winterboard themes and other mods (the 5 column springboard as seen above) slow down the device.

i am still using the iPhone 3G though, which is slower than the 3GS, but i noticed a 30% performance drop with some of those mods.

worth giving a try though. especially if you use a 3GS

Maybe not news, but there's a possibility that Apple will reveal a new iPod Touch on Wednesday (US time). There's been rumours that it will have a camera or a mic, or both.

Damn it, I've only had mine for 6 months and I'll need to upgrade if true.

Apologies if someone has mentioned this already.
