Wow, the OS update is so much more exciting that the new phone.

Speed and Battery life are good but nothing ground breaking. Still only a 3mp camera which won't make that much difference to anyones lives.

I expected more but can see why it was fairly sedated. Might wait for the next edition before I fork out extra cash over the one I already have.

Just a heads up for people considering getting the new iPhone... A friend on Twitter was talking about how he got the developer's version of OS 3.0 on his jailbroken iPhone. I don't own one, so I'm really not sure what that means or how he did it, but looks like it's doable.

OS 3.0 is now avaliable for those wanting to get in early via your preffered pirating process. Apparently it is the final build which will be realeased to the public officially on the 17th or possibly the 26th for us in Australia. Note this is not the dev beta edition. Anyone can download.

You need a file called: iPhone1,2_3.0_7A341_Restore or just look for Build No. 7A341

I have already installed on mine and it is working a treat so far. All the new functions are a big positive for the phone and everything seems a little zippier, especially Safari!

If your keen it worked perfectly for me.

i wouldnt know about the htc.. i only know the samsung because when i bought my iphone it was between that and the omnia.. so i got my hands on an omnia through a former colleague and had a bit of a fiddle.. only took me a couple of minutes to work out i didnt want that phone. who knows maybe after a while u might get used to it.. but i dont think the interface is very friendly or accessible. scrolling was a nightmare..

i dont think you can edit excel and word on the iphone.. havent heard anything about this feature being added.. but who knows maybe there'll be an app for it soon?

Had a look at the HTC Magic today, was pretty nice, although might be a tad expensive. Tossing up between it and the iPhone. Can get them for the same (about $60/month), but the Magic would only have 200MB/month with that, and I don't really know how much I would go through. I guess a lot of it would be through my home wireless, so 200MB should be enough.

Can anyone give me a run down of the best way to change from Optus to Vodafone if I choose to go down that path... Pretty simple? Can I keep my number? etc. Thanks in advance.

Yeah as long as its that particular build you will have no problems at all.

Hey Brown Dog have you noticed that Safari also seems to load websites alot quicker than it did before. The pause is still there but all the pictures seem to appear all at once.

Cut and Paste is a great feature and how they have done it is really clever.

Just a quick note for anyone wanting to do this they have to download iTunes 8.2 to make it work. Ignore the people that say it's 'anti-jailbreak' apparently Apple just changed something to do with USB settings which normally wouldn't matter. The new Jailbreak software will fix all, they just haven't released it yet.

I can copy the text within the message, but not the actual attachment.

When I first jailbroke my iPhone I downloaded heaps of games which I only seemed to play a couple of times then got bored. Not sad at all that they are gone for a while. I will still jailbreak when they release the software because I like fiddling with themes.
