google getting a US iTunes card.

I went to a Three Mobile shop and asked about the iPhone 4. I have a 3GS purchased in August, but might consider upgrading. Is anyone else thinking of upgrading while still under contract?

I think I have 3 options:
- buy outright from Apple (unlocked), sell 3GS
- pay out 3GS contract, sell 3GS, start new 24 month plan with iPhone 4
- dude mentioned another option, something like pay an extra $25 each month and get the new iPhone.

People with 3GS gonna wait another 12 months or look at their options now and get an iPhone 4?

Do Three have 12 month plans?

24 month plans are ridiculous. Too much technology advancement in 24 months. 12 months is ideal

AFAIK Three Mobile don't have 12 month plans for iPhones.

If I had purchased an iPhone 3G two years back, I reckon I would have been satisfied with the OS update and bypassed the 3GS. But I think the gap between the 3GS and 4 is far greater, and I'd like a slimmer phone. I wish it was lighter too, but I think it's 3g heavier which is annoying.

first option, a thousand dollars
second option, thousands of dollars
third option, hard to believe, but take if true.

I know I asked optus about upgrading my phone and they said i'd need to pay out the contract.

I have a 3G which doesnt come out of contract until very early next year. Very keen on getting the new one so will be checking out my options when the time comes. I'm hoping that Optus offer a monthly contact payout option where you can just pay an extra 10-20 a month to pay off the existing contract. This is what I have done plenty of times in the past with other phones and other phone companies but not sure if Optus will be so nice with the iPhone.

Wish they would hurry up and acknowledge there is a new one on the way. Nothing on their website even hints at the iPhone 4. Surely you would have to be living under a rock to not realise a new one is on the way and to not bother signing up to a 3GS.

iOS4 is now available for download via iTunes.

Make sure you sync and backup before applying the update.

Allow plenty of time for the whole process.

iSo4 is only for iphones right ? (not ipod touches ?)
It is available for Touch, for free as well (no upgrade cost).

At least that was mentioned at the Key Note.

Maybe not available yet, similar to iPad. Maybe September release ...

Pretty sure there is some sort of JB available already (don't quote me on that though). Check Whirlpool.

I think it's only for the most recent iPod Touch. And compatibility is as per the iPhone 3GS (that is, you get heaps more than those with just an iPhone 3G).

My upgrade has gone almost flawlessly. Google Calendar and Google Contacts wouldn't sync at first, Google had some outage today, as well as increased server load, tried again just before and everything came through fine.

My Calendars are a different colour now so I will have to manually fix that, no biggie. I lost all my Safari Bookmarks, that's annoying. I will now look to sync with MobileMe, but I don't know if I want to keep paying for that each year. I got it when I got my iPhone not knowing if it was worth it, still not convinced.

Loving the folders, works very well. Unified email inboxes and message threading is good too. Just wish there was a week view in Calendar, should be enabled by tilting to landscape mode, that would be the simplest implementation of it.

I went to my very first Mac User Group tonight. Wanted to learn about the Elgato TV Tuners: http://www.imug.com.au/meetings.php. Some people there were streaming live TV to their iPads!

Hi guys.

I tried installing OS4 on my 3GS last night.

It got as far as "Updating iPhone Software", then has hung.

I left it for over 5 hours, and nothing moved.

Phone is now frozen with the white Apple logo and the update status bar, even unplugged from the PC.

iTunes doesnt recognise it if I re-plug it back in.

Any suggestions?
