An incredibly n00bish question for you learned gentlemen.

I've had my iphone about a year, and have been updating as I've gone along. In settings, it says my phone is version 4.0.2.

This is obviously not the new much-vaunted iphone 4 is it?

4.02 is the version of your operating system, iOS 4 (software)

iPhone 4 is the latest iPhone produced by Apple (hardware)

The software, iOS 4.02, can be applied to the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (but not the iPad).

These Taiwanese youtubers have been getting some publicity recently, and justifiably so :D

NB: Apple and iPhone haters, you have to watch this!

Nah, it's just a new operating system. It's the same operating system as the iPhone 4 has, just on your iPhone 3GS (I'm guessing?)

Yeah, it's a 3GS.

Cheers guys. My gf asked me the other day if mine was the new iphone 4, and all I could offer was that " yeah it is, but it isn't", and quickly change the topic.

Haha, well handled! :D

Not sure if any of you iPhone 4 owners are experiencing this but my battery meter seems to be a bit out of whack. I went to bed last night with it on 30% and woke up to it being completely flat. Most nights it only loses 2-3%

Hoping it is just the meter stuffing up and not the battery itself. Going to charge it completely and then let it run down and see how it goes.

Apparently - and I'm saying this from an iNoob standpoint - background apps can chew battery due to the resources and bandwidth used. Double-press the home button, you'll see all the active apps at the bottom. I was surprised at all the crap there.

Having said that, with Optus' shitty reception out here, I'm lucky to get 24 hours out of my 3GS.

I have a work mate who is having the exact same problem!! He was complaining about it today as a matter of fact!! He showed me today at work his battery status and it was at 87% and no more than 2 hours later after he had not touched the phone it was at 32%....:eek: He also complained about when it is on overnight and sometimes loses over more than half its power allthough in standby mode the whole night. It does not allways do this and seems the phone just does it when it wants for some reason. He is trying to get it replaced with another handset and i will let you know how he goes.

Hey guys, noob question here but need some help.

Will my 3 prepaid sim card, previously on a non-iphone, work with an unlocked iphone 3GS? Whenever I put it in, it just comes up with "NO SIM", so I assume I can't use my 3 prepaid sim? Thanks.

Ahh ok thanks. How do I go about unlocking it? ie. am I able to do it myself?
You will have to call the previous Telco company. Where did you get this iPhone from?

If it is Telstra, then your well out of luck, as that is a $150 fee.

Optus is free. Vodafone is free for iPhone 4, so could be for 3GS as well.

Hey guys, any chance of posting a quick step-by-setp process of jailbreaking? Toom many pages to go through and too many results come up when searching.

Also is it always 100% reveresable? I mean what are the risks of doing this? And also any info about getting aps or whatever post jailbreak would be handy.

If no replies ill have a proper search later but no time at the moment.

Cheers :thumbsu:

Have you upgraded to 4.0.2 young Juddworth?

If you have you'll either have to downgrade to 4.0.1 or wait for a new jailbreak.

http://www.jailbreakme.com straight from Safari and you're done.

Cydia installs itself as part of the jailbreak, and it's pretty easy to download stuff from there. No problems reversing, all you have to do is a clean restore to reset factory settings.

Cheers mate.

Yeah it did it automatically for some reason, wtf. Can I undo it?

Also it says that "Itunes will automatically check for an update on..." How do I turn auto update off?

It feels good to have a functional phone again after my 3GS had moisture damage about 4 months ago. Thought I'd wait for the new one and have been stuck with an ancient flip one. Seriously I reckon that phone was the worst in history for messaging. Lol

Nope. Cannot go back to 4.0.1 now. Apple stopped allowing it as to stop JB. The next JB will come when 4.1 is released. So some time yet.

Unlucky.

3G could be different.

iPhone 4 cannot downgrade it's firmware to 4.0.1 from 4.0.2 unless you have SHSH blobs saved with Cydia.

yeah sblack is right. tried everything I could fine tonight, none of it works. hopefully someone somewhere develops something to get around it.

how long could it be before the 4.0.2 jb? approx.
The Dev Team aren't wasting their resources with 4.0.2.

4.1 is in the beta stage, so should be out within a couple of months, and they will make sure that 4.1 is JBable.

Yeah, luckily it was with Optus. Can get things sorted now so thanks for the help.:)

So I just got my iPhone 4 and I've jailbreaked it and downloaded installous.
So when I try to download something in installous I search for it then go 'download', then I choose one of the other options besides the 'launch app store' one?
This. I'm confused. Big Buck Hunter Pro for example, I find it through Installous and click 'download' and first of all it brings up 'Launch App Store' and then other things such as 'filedude.com', 'zshare.net' and '2shared.com' underneath. What should I be doing from here? Is it as simple as clicking one of these options and looking for a 'download' button? I waited for the pages to fully load and see if there was such a button but grew impatient.

Filedude is the simplest. First page, click he blue bar, something like download normally. Then fill in the 4 character captcha thing. Then a link saying download will load, click that and your done.
