An incredibly n00bish question for you learned gentlemen.
I've had my iphone about a year, and have been updating as I've gone along. In settings, it says my phone is version 4.0.2.
This is obviously not the new much-vaunted iphone 4 is it?

Nah, it's just a new operating system. It's the same operating system as the iPhone 4 has, just on your iPhone 3GS (I'm guessing?)
4.02 is the version of your operating system, iOS 4 (softwware)
iPhone 4 is the latest iPhone produced by Apple (hardware)
The software, iOS 4.02, can be applied to the iPhone 3G, iPhone 3GS and iPhone 4 (but not the iPad).

Cheers guys. My gf asked me the other day if mine was the new iphone 4, and all I could offer was that " yeah it is, but it isn't", and quickly change the topic.
Ophidian Old Boys
Haha, well handled!
Not sure if any of you iPhone 4 owners are experiencing this but my battery meter seems to be a bit out of whack. I went to bed last night with it on 30% and woke up to it being completely flat. Most nights it only loses 2-3%
Hoping it is just the meter stuffing up and not the battery itself. Going to charge it completely and then let it run down and see how it goes.
Ahh ok thanks. How do I go about unlocking it? ie. am I able to do it myself?Sounds like it isn't unlocked.
Pre-paid sims work fine, if unlocked.
You will have to call the previous Telco company. Where did you get this iPhone from?Ahh ok thanks. How do I go about unlocking it? ie. am I able to do it myself?
Cheers mate.Have you upgraded to 4.0.2 young Juddworth?
If you have you'll either have to downgrade to 4.0.1 or wait for a new jailbreak.
http://www.jailbreakme.com straight from Safari and you're done.
Cydia installs itself as part of the jailbreak, and it's pretty easy to download stuff from there. No problems reversing, all you have to do is a clean restore to reset factory settings.
Nope. Cannot go back to 4.0.1 now. Apple stopped allowing it as to stop JB. The next JB will come when 4.1 is released. So some time yet.
Unlucky.
3G could be different.i did this tonight (although with a 3G) and it worked perfectly?
Downloaded 4.0.1 from a website, downgraded from 4.0.2, used jailbreakme and all went well
The Dev Team aren't wasting their resources with 4.0.2.yeah sblack is right. tried everything I could fine tonight, none of it works. hopefully someone somewhere develops something to get around it.
how long could it be before the 4.0.2 jb? approx.
Yeah, luckily it was with Optus. Can get things sorted now so thanks for the help. You will have to call the previous Telco company. Where did you get this iPhone from?
If it is Telstra, then your well out of luck, as that is a $150 fee.
Optus is free. Vodafone is free for iPhone 4, so could be for 3GS as well.
This. I'm confused. Big Buck Hunter Pro for example, I find it through Installous and click 'download' and first of all it brings up 'Launch App Store' and then other things such as 'filedude.com', 'zshare.net' and '2shared.com' underneath. What should I be doing from here? Is it as simple as clicking one of these options and looking for a 'download' button? I waited for the pages to fully load and see if there was such a button but grew impatient. So I just got my iPhone 4 and I've jailbreaked it and downloaded installous.
So when I try to download something in installous I search for it then go 'download', then I choose one of the other options besides the 'launch app store' one?
